Re: Latest Solar Gobbledygook
Region 4366 quieted down somewhat, but it still remains active as it starts to rotate away from the side of the sun that faces Earth. It retains its almost historic size, definitely in the Carrington class of major solar events. We'll see if it returns in a few weeks.

Re: Its Technical
This is a joke, right? You can't get through a newscast without hearing everything that the president has to say, but now they want to suppress what opponents say in campaign appearances? The FCC should stick to licensing radio transmitters. That process has become so bureaucratic that you need a co...

Re: EARTH....
It's crazy. It's a local manifestation of a global anomaly, in which the atmosphere has stopped behaving the way it usually does. No, I do not know why. My degree is in movies.

Re: ICE
ICE was ill-conceived. It is the unavoidable result of post-9/11 panic. Americans willingly gave up an important check on Federal power for a false sense of safety. ICE was always a rogue agency waiting for someone to unleash it for domestic political reasons. Those who give up freedom for security ...

Re: ICE
And so we debate the social consequences of body cameras on cops, while meanwhile just about every American carries a satellite data terminal which can make real-time video of anything and send it just about anywhere for the world to see. That ship has sailed. We wanted Big Data, and we got it (for ...

Re: Epstein files keep on giving
1971 was one of the most turbulent years since the Civil War. A large percentage of the draft age population simply refused to risk their lives in an undeclared war halfway around the world. The people had never been given an adequate explanation for why Americans should die to prop up a corrupt reg...

Re: Epstein files keep on giving
That's easier said than done, since the real sexual abusers for the most part have had their names redacted. You didn't get invited to an Epstein party on the private island unless you were in the international rich class, and those people know how to keep out of the public eye.

GM starts ad blitz for new F1 team
This is the first year for General Motors' new F1 team, which uses the Cadillac brand. GM, which used to be proud of its lack of a racing program, is now going full speed ahead with just that. Bet you didn't know that Cadillac already makes one of the world's fastest road cars, since they don't adve...

Re: wallst....
It's a lot like the 1920s, since these kind of things do run in cycles to a certain extent. The big difference is that the economy has broadened so that a stock market crash can't bring it all down. In fact, the stock market tanks on almost a cyclic basis, but the money is better distributed and so ...

Re: The Donald Trump is Batcrap Crazy and The Leader of the GOP Thread
It's more evidence for a partially race-based analysis. There are people here who never got over the loss of Jim Crow. The trump phenomenon started among the racist right, and then merged with the class oppression by the cyber-billionaires, who reduce everything to economics even more than the silly...

Re: Epstein files keep on giving
It's not just the names on the list that have created all the brouhaha. It's partly the names, as they multiply like horny fruit flies, with new ones every day. But it's also because all this establishes a case for a class-based analysis. It's not all the way there yet, but we do see a sort of situa...

Re: Epstein files keep on giving
The Epstein affair has a considerable historical resemblance to the final runup to the French Revolution, which was finally precipitated by a noble's coach running over a commoner child and the noble being let off as exempt from the law. We get into a situation of underlying vs releasing causes. Cha...

Re: ICE
We had something similar in LA, and I've seen footage of this kind of thing pretty much nationwide. Keep it up. We're not disrupting business as usual. ICE and the wretched executive cabinet did that. Remember why ICE exists. Americans panicked after 9/11 and willingly allowed the executive branch t...

Re: Epstein files keep on giving
It now appears that the Epstein affair will force the prime minister of the UK to resign and call an election. His own party (Labour) is in full revolt. BBC: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c338g8n334mo The prime minister instead delivered an apology specifically to the victims of Jeffrey Epstein ...

Re: Latest Solar Gobbledygook
Possibly some weak aurora tonight, though most parts of North America will be too cloudy to see it. Kp index got up to 5, nothing spectacular, but aurora has been photographed by the usual people. AR 4366 has remained as active as when it was first discovered, and continuous solar flaring persists. ...

Epstein files keep on giving
All this comes from BBC's juicy story naming many names, mostly from big time sports ownership or governance. They ran a disclaimer, reminding us that simply naming them in the documents is not evidence that they were bad: https://www.bbc.com/sport/articles/c99kz4zj0m9o Being named in the documents ...

Re: Latest Solar Gobbledygook
This must be getting boring, but AR 4366 has just blasted out an X4.2 flare, second biggest of the recent series. Geomagnetic storming has begun, but it's surprisingly weak. This region is only halfway across the sun, so the fun continues. A region this active must have happened before, but not in m...

Re: Latest Solar Gobbledygook
AR 4366 is still it, with a long duration X class flare still in progress at this time. It has flared continuously for three days now, and shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, it is getting stronger. Usually these active regions dissipate their energy by this point, but this one is still growing....

The videos and still photos are starting to leak out onto the Nooz. There's still one making the rounds of Trump about to go down on an underage girl. I figured that one for a deepfake until I saw similar ones from what must have been a hell of a party. Among other stars, there's the former Prince A...

Re: Latest Solar Gobbledygook
Active Region #4366 is a real nasty mo-fo. In the past 24 hours it has caused 4 X-class flares and 23 smaller ones. This is spectacular. I don't think it correlates with the polar cap anomaly, seeing as that started a week or so earlier, but it certainly does appear that the gods are angry.

Re: Major weather event this winter
SoCal got lucky in December, with a couple of atmospheric rivers before the ENSO transition, or whatever the hell is going on, hit like a heat bomb. That rainy period of a few weeks in December is all that stands between us and the worst drought in decades. By now, it would have already been followe...

Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
Oh sure, most of the real activists around here own guns. My wife won't have one in the house, otherwise I'd have been practicing at the range like everyone else. Nothing new here, it's been that way since the last round of Federal excesses. In fact, it's been obvious from the start that the US stop...

Re: ICE
ICE protests continue daily in LA. I think there's another nationwide march at the end of this month. Not that these seem to do much good. I think it's our next job to get after the Democrats in Congress to grow spines. They are currently under some kind of pre-election attack, as witness the seizur...
