Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
Actually, that's wrong. The House can't do SHIT until a Speaker is chosen. They can't vote on ANYTHING else. They can't even give anyone the oath of office. Show me where in the constitution it say that the house can’t do anything until a speaker is chosen. And the the constitution doesn’t require ...

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
They have until January 13th to elect a Speaker before to prevent staff from not getting paid. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/12/29/house-committee-staff-pay-speaker-decision-00075801 That starts the first pay period. First checks get cut mid February. And there’s nothing stopping the house fro...

Re: FTC proposes ban on non-compete clauses
But if a company hasn't developed the widget or process then can it get a patent on something that doesn't exist? I think agreements prohibiting employees from using their previous company's proprietary/intellectual property is reasonable. I don't think employees should be prohibited from working f...

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
A resolution is only the expression of the House and doesn't pass legislation, make any investigations, or does any of the ordinary work of the House. They can pass a resolution declaring they will write and pass legislation. They are free to do as they please. As long as it within the constitution.

Live video of Kevin McCarthy trying to be elected Speaker of the House. https://youtu.be/StZ5DesM3cY Always thought that one of the better pieces of subtle humor from Mel Blanc and Warner Brothers. A lisping Daffy Duck as British hero Robin Hood shouting “Yikes and away” when the ever so proper Bri...

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
There is one fallacy that people are currently operating under. That congress can’t act without a speaker. Not true. They can pass any resolution they want.

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
The 2023 federal budget was passed and signed by Biden so most of the federal government will still work. However, until a Speaker is elected the representatives cannot do their work until the Speaker administers to them the oath of office. This also means the House cannot process payments to its s...

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
Nope. Because they've never had the ability to shut down the government without pushback. Now they do. And it's what you voted for. No they don’t. There would be a ton of pushback. They know a long shutdown is suicide. They’d be out for a decade. And expect Gaetz, Boebert, and company to get primar...

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
So, no budget in Sept 2023, and we can wait with no government for, what, 15 months? I can go without a retirement check for several months, but many people can't. And workers can't work for a year and 3 months on promissory notes. But I knew you'd defend a shutdown. There won’t be a 15 month shutd...

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
If there is no budget for a prolonged time, YES, the government will shut down. Checks won’t go out, most all government will shut down. And that’s the plan. No budget at all coming out of Congress. If the Speaker doesn’t allow a bill on the floor, there is no budget. Then Democrats will regain the...

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
The problem they’re setting up is that IF McCarthy gets in, he’s promised one member can make the motion to vacate. They want to demand from the Dems to gut Social Security and Medicare, among other things. If the Dems refuse, and McCarthy sets up a budget that can be passed with the Dems and a few...

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
I’m smart enough to know this doesn’t shut down government. 2.1 million federal employees keep things going nicely. I appreciate their work.
But it is fun to see the clowns of congress in action.
Go for 134.

Re: FTC proposes ban on non-compete clauses
Very bad idea but not surprised it comes from the anti business party. Years ago I was leased to an LTL company that decided to open in Charlotte. They hired 2 sales people from Roadway and had them poach their existing customers from Roadway. There are a lot of non compete abuses. And there are le...

Re: Basketball Ref Oopsie
During a basketball game the assistant coaches were chirping at the officials. Constantly disagreeing with calls and vocalizing displeasure with no-calls. Nothing rising to the level of a technical foul, but something that needed to be addressed by the officials because only head coaches are suppos...

Re: GOP House 2023 Superthread
It’s five crazy disrupters and 10 or so who just want someone different than McCarthy. If this drags on long enough both sides will tire of it.

You don't get it (probably on purpose). They aren't interested in a functioning government. They want to be AGAINST. And this huge far-right machinery would be working against EVERY Republican that voted to change the rule. Just like all the Republicans that voted to impeach Trump are no longer in ...

If it goes on long enough and they get tired enough they can pass a resolution to accept a plurality vote and be done with it.

Re: Congressional panel votes to release Trump’s tax returns to public
All the stock was broken up too. So, no it wasn't. It was just split and the ownership stayed the same. And I'm betting the stockholders didn't lose a dime, especially in the long run, now, did they? Rockefeller wasn't concerned when Standard Oil was broken up. He didn't lose money. He famously sai...
