Not sure if I've posted this article for you elsewhere on this board, Motor City:

Speaking of Iceland, and since this is the "what are we listening to" thread, two great live performances from my favorite Icelandic band...perhaps my favorite "new" band in many years...

The studio at 89.3 must be a fun place to perform.

Motor City also posted a most excellent video sometime back that was made in that studio.

"Pandora's Box"

While horsemen ride across the green
and Snow White still remains unseen.
Pegasus, the winged horse,
relays his messages by Morse.
And like some pirate sailor
We crossed the Spanish Main
And brought our magic carpet
to a marble staircased plain.
While Handel plays his melody
Doctors cause uncertainty
And though I know the lifeguard's brave
There is no one for him to save.
And like some pirate sailor
We crossed the Spanish Main
And brought our magic carpet
to a marble staircased plain.
Cock Robin views his frozen feet
and wraps them in a winding sheet
and calls out for his favourite drink
the Persian that's as warm as mink.
And like some pirate sailor
We crossed the Spanish Main
And brought our magic carpet
to a marble staircased plain.

Almost once a week I listen to the greatest 25 minutes of rock n roll live in history.

[BBvideo 425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A22oy8dFjqc[/BBvideo]

Saw these guys Winterland in San Francisco. Memory is hazy, as it would be for a variety of reasons, but what I do remember is I knew I was watching history and the single greatest rocknroll performer in history.

Elvis, Michael and Freddie are the 3 greatest and I saw two of them. Some may disagree, but that is OK.

Quiz time: who said that The Doors are "the perfect band?"

Word just came out on the wire that that person is wanted, dead or alive.

Maybe it's an L.A. sort of thing. I was born and raised on those sounds, which means that so many of the sights around me were totally in sync with what I heard on their albums.

Over and over again, I'd listen to The Doors endlessly for days on end, so it seemed. I'd even sneak away from everyone just so I could listen to the music.

Goings on about town (in SoCal, not New York City): as a young adult (early 90's), Ray Manzarek was performing in small nightclubs down the street from where I lived.

If it was any keyboardist I took after in my early years, it was Ray Manzarek. Between him and Eric Clapton, it became clear to me that I didn't have to have dazzling, fancy/shredding fast chops to be a good rock and roll keyboardist. Very AME (you might know what I mean by that.) Good contrast to the Billy Prestons and Keith Emersons (whom I adore) of the world. :)

Speaking of keyboardists, I adore Christine (Perfect) McVey

First thought: more than Clapton or anybody else who would take the time to properly enunciate each and every note and sound, it's all very Beethoven to me.

Still waiting for a gaggle of this year's K-12 students under my charge to play all of Fur Elise. Totally driving me nuts: get on with it, already, will ya?

My when I was a high school kid in the very early 1960's my teacher was an old guy named Al Melgard. He was the house organist at the old Chicago Stadium for 42 years and the master of the six manual monster therein. He taught me all about playing the standards and the show tunes.

But if I dreamed of playing like anybody, it was...
