Rush City mayor calls emergency meeting on diversity mural

The mayor of Rush City has called a special City Council meeting to discuss a mural that celebrates diversity.

The new mural is on the exterior of a hair salon in Rush City, located in Chisago County. The mural has created some controversy, and the city issued a zoning violation notice about it.

City leaders insist the mural is not authorized under local statutes and have ordered the business to remove it. But the owners argue, the painting sends a message of inclusivity and unity, and they are not touching it.

Now, Rush City Mayor Dan Dahlberg has called a special meeting of the City Council to "discuss" the zoning violation the city issued. The meeting will be held on November 7.

Meanwhile, a "Save the Wall" rally is planned for Saturday.

this is what makes board cons go nuts

OK, so this city will try and make this illegal. Soon if things go bad this will be illegal everywhere after they change the Constitution to outlawing anything not white. TOO LATE if someone would now say to me "exaggerate much?"

I am thinking of TWO prior board members, would the one with name starting with "S" still be saying nothing to see here?

They are offended to the death of anything that does not center whites....and show white conservatism in the best light possible.

ANYTHING else is censor-worthy.

Tried to tell people this when they started banning chimeras like "CRT" and gay graphic novels and woke math books and trans girls on the sports team,

They see all of it as part of their replacement, same as they did 100-120 years ago.

Rush City council orders salon to remove mural celebrating diversity
The council has threatened legal action if the mural isn't painted over.

But Mayor Dan Dahlberg is asking the council to reconsider their request, citing a "deficiency" in the city's code.
+
Dahlberg said he's asking the city council for an "open conversation" about addressing the city code in a public statement.

"Per our interpretation of the Code, anything that is not explicitly permitted is considered prohibited. Clearly, this piece of art has sparked an important conversation in our community and provides an opportunity for us to address the deficiency in the Code," he said, adding "At a personal level, I believe the mural is a well-done piece of artwork and deserves more positive attention."

Erin said that no other murals currently exist within city limits.

A city council meeting has beens scheduled on Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m. to discuss the matter.
The city administrator, Amy Jo Mell, sent out the notice. How involved the city council was in the decision is still undetermined.

Whether that notice was sent out by the city manager or the city's official clown, ... I am definitely not seeing any "emergency" here.

i dunno.........The head clown may not have known anything about it until it started trending.

Most all code violations are done by staff. It starts with, what i've mentioned in the past, the yard Nazi. If it's anything like our small city, the position is seasonal and contracted out. He comes around during spring clean up, disappears, and then shows up for the fall clean up. Some of the yard Nazi's will work with you, some of them can be real dickheads that go strictly by the book. Once the citation is given it's handed over to city staff to be processed. The citation is drawn up, rubber stamped, and sent off. Only if there's a problem does it hit the City Managers desk, which in this case, it obviously did. Because of the "trending" previously mentioned, it was finally brought to City Councils attention. Since it's a hot button "trend" the Mayor decided to pull an emergency meeting to air it out in public.

This is from 5 days ago.....

Rush City officials order salon owner to remove mural depicting racial inclusivity
Following all the attention to this controversy, on Tuesday afternoon, the Mayor of Rush City sent a statement to WCCO regarding the future of the mural and the city code:

The City recently notified the property owners of Hairdo or Dye that the mural that was recently painted on their west wall was a violation of our City Code. Per our interpretation of the Code, anything that is not explicitly permitted is considered prohibited. Clearly, this piece of art has sparked an important conversation in our community and provides an opportunity for us to address the deficiency in the Code.

As the Mayor of Rush City, I'm going to ask our City Council to have an open conversation about how we can clarify and address shortcomings with the Code.

At a personal level, I believe the mural is a well-done piece of artwork and deserves more positive attention.

- Mayor Dan Dahlberg
Since it's in my backyard, i've been checking up on it. So far, no updates. Not even coverage on the "save the wall" get together. Tomorrow is the emergency meeting. Should be interesting. Will it trend or not? Is the whole thing being blown out of proportion? Or is the City Council nothing but a bunch of white racists? Stay tuned. :|

A mural that celebrates diversity in Rush City will no longer be subject to violations — for now — as the city council voted to allow it following public input Monday night.

During the special meeting held Monday, council members voted 4-1 to rescind the violation letter sent to salon owners Erin and Jason Oare, citing the deficiency in the city's code previously outlined by Mayor Dan Dahlberg.
+
"We are happy with the council's decision to rescind their notice of violation. Hoping they work to revise codes and ordinances so they are clear in the future," Erin Oare told Bring Me The News on Tuesday, adding that the Oares asked for a signed statement in writing that assures the mural remains intact.
There's still no skinny on what, or who, started this whole ball rolling.

While there is nothing wrong with the mural there are regulations and zoning rules that have to be followed.
Or you have to accept murals which are offensive.
As far as that goes they don't need to be offensive or non offensive it also could be a case where the mural does not fit with the neighborhood landscaping.
I believe most of you here live in areas with HOAs and mostly support the rules of those organizations.
Well how is this any different
