Heh you forget that I was step mother to at least one such boy in recent years.

Ever do sheets-day laundry in such a household? I could get more detailed, but anyway. Yeah I kind of get what you're saying, though not from direct experiecnce.

Between Adam West being kind of dorky-sexy as Batman and Wonder Woman and Get Christie Love and Joanna Cameron in ISIS and such, it could not have been easy. And that's just the kid's shows!

At least we girls didn't have to deal with the sheets and socks under beds problem :?

I forget nothing (haha), but I do sometimes get lost in small things eccentric.

Just finished reading an article on Elizabeth Bishop.

Something about this conversation (and the world around us at this time) made me want to play Robert Lowell against Roy's Elizabeth Bishop.

I read comic books as a youngun and was ruined for life.

Later in life, I discovered something called graphic novels, which is I guess comic books you can read as an adult and not be made fun of,

:rw) I used to color as a kid, now I do it as an adult in "adult" coloring books.

Yes, MCU hit DC right back with that, no doubt.

Can't wait for that one either. Did you see the comic? Wish I could get ahold of the '60s originals!

I thought there was a good introduction to the MCU Black Panther character in Captain America: Civil War ... of course, the problem in that film is his role mostly got hidden behind the larger conflict between Cap and Iron Man and all the various Avengers taking sides. Plus, they had to reintroduce Spider-Man, too. Way too many characters to have good characterization for any one of them ... including Cap and Bucky/Winter Soldier, IMHO.

The weird thing ... you would expect during the Civil War for Tony "Iron Man" Stark to be anti-government, given the attitudes you see in Iron Man 2; and Captain America to take the patriotic side of being pro-government, on the Superhero Registration Act; but because of Winter Soldier they take opposite sides of what you might expect. Cap basically argues even superheroes and demigods need some civil liberty rights to privacy.

Thor: Ragnarok is also being promoted too ... looks odd, first part of the movie seems to be some kind of "celestial road buddy" bit between Thor and Hulk, then back to Asgard to prevent the apocalypse; plus Mjolnir being destroyed ... whoa.

Dunno, I still have a special fondness for the Sam Raimi Spider-Mans; the reboot with Andrew Garfield never did much for me; and I'm not sure about the "Homecoming" of him back into the MCU, but we'll see. Looks like they're going to make him into a kind of Tony Stark protege.

Yeah I thought that might have been some commentary on the hypocrisy of Silly, Conned Valley, which talks a great libertarian game...until they become Republicans.

But then, it's not like the big studios care much more about it, either.

So now its over they got the top guy right?

Russia says it may have killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

Quote:
..........If Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's death is confirmed it would be a major blow to the jihadist group and self-declared caliphate as it finds itself retreat across Iraq and Syria.

ISIS has been clinging on to Raqqa as well as Iraq's second-largest city Mosul despite U.S.-backed coalition forces' attempts to eject the group from both places.

It would also mark a major military success for Russia. It has conducted a military campaign in support of Syrian President Bashar Assad since September 2015.........

I didn't try to analyze or think about it too much. So I don't know. Poor editing, maybe?

I usually just sit back and enjoy the movie but there are things I notice maybe others don't see like what happened to the German ship. Like you said it might be poor editing.

How is the above tied into the Wonder Woman thread?

Are you comparing al-Baghdadi to Ares? :D

His death hasn't been confirmed yet ... and my prediction is, if he was killed, just as al-Qaeda didn't vanish after bin Ladin's death, ISIS will stick around, and reorganize around new leadership.

no not to Ares himself but to her Idea of what would end the war which was taking out the top guy which at first she thought to be the millitary guy and then the politician but ultimately came to understand what drives war is whats in peoples hearts.

Super hero movies abound these days. This one was a standout.

Other especially good ones were:

Superman the movie.
Ironman 1,2, and 3.

In each of them was a great human focused story, perfect execution of details, and brilliant art direction.

Having finally seen Wonder Woman, I guess I would say, no, it doesn't seem killing military leaders, even gods posing as military leaders, will end war. Her realization was correct. As to what's in our hearts, well, that could lead to an interesting discussion of the human history of war going back thousands of years, whether or not there is something called "human nature" and whether it is inherently warlike, and I might even start talking about bonobos. But that really should go in another thread.

It's often a military strategy to go after the enemy's leadership, because it can often paralyze their command and control, at least temporarily, but as I was saying, earlier, ... well, you know how they talk about Hydra in the Marvel movies ... "cut off one head, two others will take its place".

Anyway, as for al-Baghdadi, looks like at this moment, he's Schrodinger's cat. Might be dead, might be alive.
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-midea ... SKBN19E1UR

That was 4 days ago. There's a British tabloid - so my caveat is immediate - called the Daily Star - reporting 2 days ago he is still alive.
https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/world- ... tion-Daesh

I'm not sure if that story came before or after the topless model they feature regularly, so yeah, find grains of salt.
