Good Riddance Day was started by the Times Square Alliance after Cheeto Christ got "elected" president in 2016. They do it every year now, on December 28. Typically, hundreds of people write what they liked least about the old year on paper forms provided by Times Square. The forms are then posted on a temporary wall provided for the purpose. At some point, these papers get what they deserve, formerly by shredding, but now there's, "An interactive, fun, and fiery trick with a professional magician." (see link below) I think it's now symbolic, because there got to be too many papers to get rid of by any spectacular means. Presumably they go to the recycling yard, where they are transmuted into something more useful than mental old shit.
Of course, some people go farther, such as the woman shown in several Web posts about the day, who took a hammer to her laptop.
At the start, there was a general consensus that 2016 was the worst year ever. That seems almost quaint this year, which exceeds that one's generally depressing nature by several orders of magnitude. I think it's time to spread the celebration worldwide.
Actually, the idea isn't even new. Times Square started the present incarnation, but getting rid of the year's old shit in a symbolic gesture is quite common in some other countries. In one, they put all the bad karma onto dolls, then destroy same. They used to do so with fire or explosives, but that got so popular that now it's discouraged. It was starting to cause quite the mess.
After this year, I'm game. I can't afford another trip to New York quite yet, but I'll think of something. It will likely involve fire or some similarly dangerous method of destruction.

Did a Google on Good Riddance Day and found mostly wrapups of live coverage from the scene. It seems to be somewhat viral in that market.
Typical Nooz coverage here:

The secret, at least on camera, is magician's flash paper. Light it and it vaporizes.
It's an idea that's found its time.

That was an interesting event held at Times Square.

Unfortunately, I decided to burn "Political angst over hyped-up problems that we've always had and lived with." At this point, futility kicked in, and I chose not to contribute to LA smog.
In my head, I used a stick of dynamite to blow 2023 into the historical shit bin where it deserves to be.

You all don't seem to mind forcing a ten year-old to carry a child produced by uncle dad to term though. And in case you have forgotten, the problem with 15 year-olds waiting tables at Applebees is forcing them to serve alcohol.
