The fall of Katie Porter

I’ve always like Katie Porter. She’s a common woman who got pissed and ran for office - and won. She’s been a common-sense working mom who brought that to the House, and her use of whiteboards and biting questions put CEOs on the hot seat. https://youtu.be/x9ibFoBl7tQ?si=WozMYtUg9mUwlbqX

But then she decided to run for Barbara Boxer’s Senate Seat. THAT was a “too big for her britches” moment, and her ultimate undoing. She needed to rise in the ranks of the Democratic House leadership, being a team player, supporting others and building alliances among democrats before running for the Senate in, of all places, California. She might have made it in a smaller state, but NOT California.

First, she angered many with announcing her candidacy BEFORE Sen. Dianne Feinstein announced her plans to leave. Adam Schiff, a well-known and respected Congressman with years in leadership announced, and there was no way she could win. She should have dropped out then, because she wasn’t going to win. In such a race, the only way she could win is go scorched-earth on Schiff, and that wasn’t going to work.

Yeah, Schiff triangulated on her, ignoring her and using friendly organizations to pump up the Republican Steve Garvey to come in second so Schiff could coast to victory in November. I DON’T like that, but that’s politics. That’s how you win. That’s the biggest reason I’d NEVER run for ANY office, I couldn’t do such a thing.

But if you don’t do such things in electoral politics, you go home the loser. It’s just reality.

Now I’m pretty sure her political career is done. Too bad.
