Missouri state lawmakers forces dress code on women

Post by gounion »

With all the serious issues nationally and in our states, Missouri lawmakers are on top of it - Women with bare arms.

That’s right - they changed the dress code ONLY FOR WOMEN because they had bare arms in public. This isn’t a joke. https://www.newsweek.com/missouri-repub ... ns-1773481

This is the 21st Century, not the 20th Century were men were expected to wear suits to the office and women were expected to wear dresses. Times have changed and these 1950 ideas of appropriate dress do not conform to today's reality or expectations of working people which includes blue- and white-collar workers. I think most employers would expect clothing to be clean, neat, and appropriate for the work the employee is doing.

What is and isn't appropriate is subjective and there are many opinions on that. One thing I've noticed on our local TV new cast is the men were suits or dress slacks with a button-down shirt but they also wear sneakers. In years past, sneakers were a no-no but today they're acceptable.

Times change but for some reason republicans want to keep us in the 1950s.

We all know what that’s about - The right went nuts when First Lady Michelle Obama wore a dress with bare arms. That’s what it’s about.

Of course, they also freaked when Obama wore a tan suit.

“ The current dress code for men states that "proper attire for gentlemen shall be business attire, including coat, tie, dress trousers, and dress shoes or boots." No update was proposed to this house rule on Wednesday.”

Their arms are covered. So no need to update

Congress has the same dress code. Long standing dress code.

Also Missouri state lawmakers attacking the homeless with fines and prison to make them not homeless anymore, or at least not appear to be homeless anymore.

Missouri Governor Signs Bill Into Law Criminalizing Homelessness
Governor Mike Parson has signed a bill into law that will make it a felony to sleep on state-owned land. The bill has drawn wide criticism from unhoused advocates for the way it seemingly criminalizes homelessness.

After one warning, anyone found illegally camping on state-owned land could face a $750 fine or a Class C misdemeanor charge punishable by up to 15 days in prison.

The law authorizes the state attorney general to sue any municipalities that don’t enforce the ban. It further penalizes cities with rates of homelessness higher than the state average by taking away state funding for unhoused services.......
Republican legislators who supported the law insist this will be a good thing.

“If it isn’t backed up by threat of criminal enforcement, people won’t get off the streets, and that is truly the intent of the bill,” Representative Bruce DeGroot told the RFT in May......

Via CNN:
Lawmakers in the Missouri House of Representatives this week adopted a stricter dress code for women as part of a new rules package, and now requires them to cover their shoulders by wearing a jacket like a blazer, cardigan or knit blazer.
And women in Congress wear sleeveless dresses on the House floor.

It’s not stricter. Men are required to wear a coat. Their shoulders are covered.

Defending the Taliban.

So why aren’t women required to wear a shirt and tie? Please explain.

They aren’t prohibited. On some it’s a good look. But as a general rule it’s never been part of a woman’s wardrobe.

It’s a decorum. Professional dress code. Not an unusual part of life. Even has the support of women.

You lied when you said nothing had changed.

And it is REQUIRED for men. It’s prohibited to come in without a tie.

But go ahead, lie and defend the indefensible.

How, exactly, is a sleeveless dress not professional? I had female colleagues who wore sleeveless dresses in a business setting, and there was never a problem.

No, it’s sexist dribble that you support. And the women who support it are the same theocrats who believe women are servants to men.

I think that men should be covered head-to-toe in a burka.

Which does not alter the fact that it is ridiculous. That something is “a rule” is a simple-minded response. Decorum is a bullshit response as well. Define decorum. Define how a sleeveless shift dress is less decorous.

Btw, why can Gym Jordan remove his jacket and roll up his sleeves?
