Google responds to Trump: Denies favoring ideologies in search results

Google on Tuesday responded to President Trump's early-morning tirade against the search giant, denying that its algorithms favor liberal media outlets over right-wing ones.

The tech giant said that it does not bias its "results toward any political ideology."

That may be true, but I can tell you that in all likelihood when you do a search, the top results paid to get the initial position in your search results.

Everybody asks where Google makes its money when it gives away so much for free ... well, being paid to get at the top of your search is how they make most of their money.

If this is the case, then Rightie should be applauding this fine example of the "free market" at work, instead of whining, as usual, about being "treated unfairly".

Limbaugh's been pushing that narrative for 25+ years. Ask a listener for evidence of it and it was always the same form: ARE YOU #)(*%)(TING BLIND?????

Again, I can tell you that if you're not paying to get at the top of searches, the other thing you might be doing wrong - which costs nothing - are making sure embedded (sometimes in the background, not the text of the site proper) are keywords people are looking for, that would want to reach your site, and are the most likely to be used.

There is no other bias to the results of google searching, political or otherwise. Maybe some conservative sites are doing it wrong.

I can tell you, hidden as HTML code but not visible text, in many sites are words like "sex" and "porn" because those will get search engine hits. And make sure you wind up at their site.

The google search algorithm is not really all that hidden, it's discussed in some articles, there is a reason they ended up "boss" over Lycos, Yahoo, and their competitors, because of how it works (which for most people means finding what they're looking for), but the one thing not built into it is political bias.

Google will have the "leader" on it's page in glowing terms daily, or else.

This is something the GOP supports now. they want a dictator, a white murderous leader who will kill or imprison or deport ALL people of color, all Gay people, etc.

Yes, HTML has a "feature" that lets keywords be embedded in code without displaying on user screens. You have to list out the code to see them. One of the standard things done by people charging for "search engine optimization" is to stick in whole lists of them.

I thought google made most of its money off its ad business. A lot of sites, perhaps most, are using various google services that run tracking or ad display scripts on the sites' pages.
