How do cable news outlets stay in business....

Post by Glennfs »

Other than Fox News
The rating for the other outlets are so dismal in comparison. Fox is even leading in the 26 to 54 category which I found amazing.
Even more surprising is MSNBC was behind even CNN in that demographic. Assuming that people who watch cable so called news shows are reliable voters it speaks volumes that Fox news has more viewers than the other networks combined.
That being said I can't help but believe networks are not making profits from their cable news outlets other than fox

Conservative whites are eager to be propagandized and like being exploited, I guess.

TV is ran by advertisers. The great thing about cable for advertisers is how they can push their ads to specific groups of people. You pay for eyes.

I mean, say you sell tennis rackets. Would you advertise on NBC? Of course not, you'd be paying for millions to see your ads that didn't care about tennis. But you'd pay good money for ads on the Tennis Network, wouldn't you?

Your question just shows you don't understand how the business works. MSNBC and CNN are at the top of cable tv, so they do very well as to profits. You don't have to be the top ratings network to make money. Room for everyone.

Glenn's just showing his disdain for anyone that's not Fox News.

That's like saying "I don't know how BJ's stays in business." BJ's is a membership warehouse store similar to Costco and Sam's. It's got a lot fewer stores. But there's room for more than one business in a market. Glenn doesn't understand this, apparently.

Not at all but when a network is only getting a little over of 100,000 viewers it is hard to see how it is not losing money.

One thing for sure all cable news outlets get way to much credit. If you look at the numbers all are in reality insignificant

Then how do the hundreds of cable networks below them with fewer viewers not lose money?

Many are running content they don't have to pay for and what is to say they are turning a profit.
I looked it up and in 2017 a 30 second spot on MSNBC was only about $3500.
I don't know how many spots they run an hour but if it's 20 that would be 70k an hour or 1.68 million a day. So I guess they are turning a profit after all.
Btw fox was more than double that number

Maddow is number 5 the only reason she isn't number 6 is because she had more shows than the number 6 show

Other than Fox News? Fox News isn’t news, and has admitted it. Remember when Glen claimed he didn’t watch Fox? He does.

Ratings don't tell the whole story.

Glenn's numbers are at odds with the last ones I bothered to read, but fortunately I can't believe it matters in this day and age, with the audience so fragmented. I won't waste any time to research it.

I, too, was under the impression that Glenn didn't watch Faux. He seems more the TV sports type. Not surprised, though.

Faux is popular with advertisers less for the size of its audience than for its loyalty. Faux is the last of the old-time megalithic niche audiences. Faux viewers are far more likely to unquestionably line up behind perceived leaders and march in lockstep, and that makes them easier to advertise to. Behold, for example, the experience of Mr. Pillow.

Outside the world of dollars and cents, appealing to mindless suckers is far less of a thing to brag about.

I don't watch any of the cable news outlets. When I am on the road I am mostly working or sleeping. When I am at home I watch mostly Netflix and Amazon prime.
We have been binging The Great British Baking Show
A knock off of American Pickers on I believe Prime and when my wife goes to bed around 830 I've been watching Perry Mason in chronological order.
We also slip in a Shawn the Sheep if grandson is up. That show is great

Is someone bragging that more people watch a fascist channel owned by someone trying to destroy the world?

Ya know what most humans have in common? They hate Rupert, because they know how terrible it is what he is doing.
I sigh in your general direction.

One thing for sure all cable news outlets get way to much credit. If you look at the numbers all are in reality insignificant
The numbers you refer to are for prime time and not throughout the day. The cable news is competing with the major entertainment networks for viewers from 8-11 pm, when more people are at home watching TV.

We have been binging The Great British Baking Show
A knock off of American Pickers on I believe Prime and when my wife goes to bed around 830 I've been watching Perry Mason in chronological order.
We also slip in a Shawn the Sheep if grandson is up. That show is great
IIRC, you have SirusXM radio in your truck where you clain you listen to Thom Hartmann and the SirusXM broadcasts have dedicated channels for the live audio of Fox News, MSNBC,a nd CNN cable news programs.

Except that you constantly push Fox New talking points. Like when Marsha Blackburn was on Fox calling Kamala Harris incompetent a few weeks ago. And you came in doing the exact same.

Link?
I looked it up and in 2017 a 30 second spot on MSNBC was only about $3500.
Source?

If it proves anything at all, it’s that this country is filled with dumb conservative whites, the most violent, amoral people in town.

Oh and that they’re desperate to return to the tyranny of the majority, even tho this isn’t 1980s South Africa. :problem:

Original thought isn’t a priority for conservatives. Being mindless conformists, the only thing they’re really good for is imitation of others.

Glenn prefers to be told what to think and what to say. He is the perfect lemming.
Love of Country is not Blind Patriotism. It is not devotion to one person or one party. It is knowing fighting for your country is single most important thing you can do. Do not accept the notion violence is the answer.

That alone should have made him the loneliest person on this board. At that point the evidence was overwhelming he cant think for himself and really doesn't deserve attention from anyone.
