Chinese Boeing jet crashes in mountains with 132 on board, no sign of survivors

Post by Libertas »

GUANGZHOU, China, March 21 (Reuters) - A China Eastern Airlines (600115.SS) Boeing 737-800 with 132 people on board crashed in mountains in southern China on Monday after a sudden plunge from cruising altitude at about the time when it would normally start to descend ahead of its landing.

Media said there were no signs of survivors on the domestic flight.

The airline said it deeply mourned the passengers and crew, without specifying how many people had been killed on the jet, an earlier model to the 737 MAX with a strong safety record.
Thought to be one of the safest airplanes in the world.

I am fascinated by flying. I sometimes spend hours with youtube channel of LAX landings and takeoffs. This crash is bad news.
I sigh in your general direction.

Boeing is in real trouble if their planes don't quit falling from the skies.

China crash is ‘unprecedented’ given Boeing 737′s stellar safety record, says aviation analyst

For some reason this crash reminds me of another 737 crash some years back. The investigator's thought it was pilot suicide for a large part of the investigation. If i remember right, it turned out to be a problem with the tail (falling off?)

All these recent Boeing problems are on planes made at their union facility in Washington.
Can you imagine what we would be reading here had they been built at the non union facility in Charleston SC

You don't remember right. Tails don't fall off 737s, absent external damage.

Boeing's 737 safety record is excellent. It was designed back when Boeing cared about building airplanes. The workmanship of the union workers in Seattle is the best in the world. I know you buy from Walmart because you don't like buying American-made goods, you prefer Chinese-made stuff. Why do you always attack American workers?

I guess when you fly, you should seek out Chinese-made airplanes to fly on.

We'll see what happened. Hopefully the black boxes tell us something. But I'd be worried about the quality of maintenance in China. They don't really care about lives.

Uhm.. The link i gave was about the 737's excellent safety record. From what i understand so far, China has a good maintenance record, with a low crash rate. The 737's they do have are old and being phased out for new models.......

How China turned its airline safety record around has become a model for others. The nation experienced a spate of deadly crashes in the 1990s, including seven from 1992 to 1994 that claimed 492 lives. After that nadir, Beijing requested help from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which sent advisers and provided guidance on how it meticulously regulated American aircraft operations.

The rest of that bullshit paragraph is what some talk about. i buy from Wallyworld? i prefer China "stuff?' i don't like buying American goods? And, i always attack American workers. Where you come up with that kind of shit is beyond me.

4 of my family members work at Costco. The "W" word is a dirty word around here. Myself, i've only stepped into a Wallyworld twice in my life. Both times unavoidable. When i can't find local goods, i use Amazon to find the listings for American companies here in the U.S. and then order, and buy, from them. And finally, you've mistaken constructive criticism of unions as an attack on American workers. Criticizing what the Teamsters Union has done to their membership does not mean i hate unions, let alone American workers. If anything, that'd be sticking up for the American workers. The Teamsters Union is screwing American workers. Ask any Teamsters members.

As is often said here, you're lying.
