So then, Sam, you see impeachment as neither an "overzealous" action, nor an "extraneous effort," comparable to "cancel culture" (?)

The reality about political independents?
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2 ... ependents/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Nearly four-in-ten U.S. adults (38%) identify as politically independent, but most “lean” toward one of the two major parties. Only 7% of Americans overall don’t express a partisan leaning, while 13% lean toward the Republican Party and 17% lean toward the Democratic Party.
Independents who lean to one of the two parties are often much closer to partisans in their views than they are to independents who lean to the other party.
etc. etc. [snip][end]
What some people define as independents (i.e. "not leaners") are only around 7% of the population, and most of that 7% are that way because they are politically disengaged, apathetic, ignorant, etc.
Do I care what I say or do affects that 7%? I have gotta say, with all frank honesty, no, I do not give a shit.
I also agree with 538 here:

Around 80%, give or take the usual statistical error, don't want another war in the Middle East.

Re: New Blood
The Doremus Jessup of It Can't Happen Here was a crusader against fascism. OUR DJ disappointed me because he really kind of ho-hummed at the closest we've come to it in a while since the 30s.
Seems like the 'civil libertarian' was more worried about COVID regulations and restrictions.
He just yawned at the fact that Trump and Barr was kidnapping people in unmarked vehicles off the streets of Portland. Seemed to care more about the civil liberties of Michael Flynn than that of ordinary people.

My reading of Doremus Jessup in It Can’t Happen Hear is that he required a kick in the ass to strive against fascism.ProfessorX wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 7:40 pmThe Doremus Jessup of It Can't Happen Here was a crusader against fascism. Re: New Blood
Yeah, in the plot of the novel It Can't Happen Here, Doremus Jessup feels guilt for not taking the threat of Buzz Windrip (the populist demagogue that gets elected and many people analogize to Trump or of course at the time other fascist dictators) all that seriously, and so he kind of becomes a crusader against him because he feels he failed to prevent him from taking power when he could have.
Also, Lee Sarason (who is the power behind the throne that some analogize to Steve Bannon), who helped Windrip's rise to power, displaces and replaces him in a coup. He thought he made a good figurehead while he pulled the strings behind the scenes, but then got tired of doing everything indirectly.
