Just recieved a call from 424 348 6742 odd

Post by glenfs »

So I get this call and they start off by thanking me for being a supporter of Fox News and Sean Hannity. I am a supporter of neither and rarely have either tuned in. Then she asks me if I have heard the latest Fox News Alert concerning investments and retirees.

I then hung up. One of the odd deals was she used my first name several times in a very short call and she pronounced it gleNN. Anyway I guess I have hit the age when scammers will be calling me with advise and offers....oh joy joy

I usually shop at Lowes, but I guess being a trucker, a registered republican and living in the South puts me on many lists.

I get calls saying they are getting back to me about A) my student loans B) my cars warranty C) a medical back brace.

I don't have student loans, I don't have an expired or extended warranty, and I never called about or ordered a back brace.

Caller ID is a real joy. I have it now so the name & number of callers comes up on screen.

If the call is from something unknown or unidentified, and that's a lot, I do not answer.

BTW the last few calls I got that said unknown number and they actually left a voicemail, it was a robocall telling me to vote Republican so I can stop Pelosi the communist from taking over.

Those were quickly deleted.

Caller ID can legally be spoofed, and there are web sites that advertise that you can call them and do just that for "prank calls." "Prank your frends. Check up on your GF [etc]." All legal.

Most robocalls now come from spoofed numbers which are generally in your local area code or one near it, so you'll be more likely to think it's a call you should answer. Sometimes you'll get texts or calls from people asking you to stop calling their number. They don't get it that you didn't call their number, some spoofer did to make thousands of robocalls about carpet cleaning or low interest financing. They'll never get it. Too technically impaired.

This made both of our landlines useless years ago, and now it's spread to cell phones. At the rate it's growing, these will also become useless if it continues. I've seen estimates that half the calls placed on cell phones in some number of years will be spoofed robocalls.

I've been forced to block everyone but contacts. Otherwise I'm answering the phone every hour or so with one of these.

Obviously, there's trouble in the cell phone paradise.

I don't have caller ID and don't need it. I use my answering machine to screen my calls. If it's from someone I know I'll pick up but if it's a robocall or cold caller I let it go to the answering machine. I can delete all my messages either one-at-a-time or two presses of a button and all messages are deleted.

I have a machine like that on one of the landlines. It's useful, yes, since you can hear the incoming. Ever notice that the messages left by robocalls usually start in the middle? You gotta wonder who'd be sucker enough to pay for this kind of advertising. If they're scammers, which many are, they're getting scammed.

I'll sometimes pickup and harass the cold caller or scammer. My best is the guy with an accent from India telling me he's from Microsoft security and my computer is infected. I'll interrupt him and say "You do know I work for Microsoft, don't you" whereupon he immediately hangs up.

I answer a phone or I don't. The one I answer is the landline.

My cell phone is a phone I make calls from when I am travailing. Unless I'm expecting a call on it I don't answer calls. I've never given that number out so I'm not responsible for answering incoming calls. It gets 20 calls a day, I have no idea who.

It's been four or five years I've had that phone, about 30,000 calls I've not answered. I would think they would give up but they don't.

I get tons of scam calls on my landline. For a few years, they were all claiming to be from "Windows," and they had detected a problem with my PC. If I was bored, I'd play with them. "what are you wearing?" "Oh, yeah, I sent my PC to you yesterday, you should get it later today, let me know if you can fix it." "Oh, that's my grandma's PC, and I'm trying to get her to quit using it anyway, she spends all her time on porn sites."

Now I get calls from "Apple" saying my iCloud has been breached and that I should cease all online activity.

And today, I got a call from "Medicare," asking if I have the new card.

ha! No, I was in a bad mood and just yelled at her and hung up...she called me right back, so I just hung up.

Oh, wait, the first time she called, I told her I have the "Purple" card and just got it on Tuesday. "Purple?" "Yes, it's really pretty." on and on.

One of them (with a strong New Jersey accent) wanted to know what our house was made out of. I told them, "Adobe." She'd never heard of adobe. I said, "You take mud and straw and dry out bricks in the sun, then you build with them." That wasn't in her script.

You should have told them it was first made out of straw but that got blown down. Then you made it of sticks but that too got blown down. Finally, you made it of bricks and nothing blew it down. The only problem you have is there's a wolf on your roof that keeps trying to get down the chimney. :rw)
