I just looked into the history - never did before. The Sandinistas did overthrow the prior dictatorship. But they ended up having an elected representative government, of the parliamentary form. It wasn't, nor is it, a communist dictatorship.

Now, the problem is, most South American governments are quite corrupt, and elections aren't often free. Looking at the history, Donald Trump seems to be using lessons from them. The Contras were really nasty, big on murder, rape and torture where they were in control. Again, something that conservatives don't seem to mind when choosing who to support.

But the fact is, the entire Congress refused to fund the Contras, so quit blaming the dems and red-baiting, like you so love to do.

The above post is completely divorced from reality.

At least the border crisis actually exists, though Glenn always seems to ignore its cause being outside the control of the US government, especially at a time when the Republicans are doing their version of anarchy.

Everything else is the result of unfortunate circumstances coinciding, the way they often do in history. There are real reasons for this seeming coincidence, relating to entropy and the macro-scale behavior of interacting systems. Were Glenn not utterly ignorant of history, he'd have some idea why this happens and why "small government" always without exception proves to make the problem worse. This is as close to a law of physics as you'll ever get in human social behavior.

Surely, Glenn does not think the government raised one key interest rate that affects bank liquidity just out of greed or misguided policy. Back in the real world, most people who know anything wonder why the Fed didn't do it sooner.

If you want to lower inflation, you have to accept higher interest rates. Inflation, and subsequently interest rates, are an issue that most countries are dealing with.
