Shipment of expensive German cars on fire

Post by ZoWie »

A huge auto carrier with thousands of cars made by companies in the Volkswagen Group in Germany caught fire, and was abandoned in the Atlantic Ocean. VW owns every car maker over there that Mercedes doesn't. It is currently adrift, still smoking, and essentially salvage unless the shipper gets someone to put out the fire and tow it in a big hurry. All of the cars were enroute to the US. There are a few Lamborghinis (which cost as much as a small house), 1100 Porsches, and a bunch of VWs, Audis, and other German rides.

Some people special order their Porsches. Some months later the factory builds them one, some months later it gets shipped, and some months after that it gets delivered to the dealer for pickup.

People have been notified that theirs might not make it to the US.

The violin on this one is admittedly very small, but still, supply chain strikes again. We built an unsustainable economic system.

Money to burn

Oakland Hills Country Club plans to build a replica of iconic clubhouse after fire
Oakland Hills Country Club plans to build a replica of its iconic 99-year-old clubhouse that was destroyed by a massive fire last week.

“I can report that at our board meeting this past Saturday morning,” club president Rick Palmer said Monday, “the board unanimously made an easy decision to determine that the restored, rebuilt clubhouse will be a replica of what the iconic clubhouse was before the fire.

“Actually, our membership and the national golf community really made that a very easy decision for us to make because of the outpouring of how special it is, even our golf course architect, Gil Hanse, who wants our clubhouse to match his beautiful restoration.”......

.....Palmer did not have a dollar-figure estimate on the cost to rebuild as the Bloomfield Township club begins the process of contacting architectural firms and working through insurance. But he said the iconic two-story back porch, which was a replica of George Washington’s Mount Vernon home, would return........

I am so conservative when I read the title I thought it meant selling really well. :)

The entire shipment will be scrapped under tight security. Even if some cars aren't damaged.

Last I heard was a day or so ago before Putin's raving bonkers speech and troop movement put everything else out of the news. The ship was under tow, and the fire was not completely out.
