Don't Get Mad Get Even
Don't Get Mad Get Even
Some corporation is trying to put a rock quarry in our neighborhood.
We all got together and beat it down. Then about 30 days later they came back with an advertising campaign.
It was obvious our county council ignored us in the long term. So here we are fighting them again.
So one of my neighbors who owns a dairy farm ran for county council. He had never ran for office before and was just a regular Joe.
He won the GOP' primary with over 62pct of the vote.
All because our current council is ignoring the wishes of their constituents

Well, Glen, if the owners or previous owners sold the mineral rights they can do whatever the want. It happened to a large horse farm operation near where I live. The quarry just came in and started digging. The farm owners tried to stop it but they could not. Probably a third of the farm is gone.Glennfs wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:39 pm Some corporation is trying to put a rock quarry in our neighborhood.

The question I have is can the county council approve the rock quarry before your neighbor, provided they win in the general election, takes office?Glennfs wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:39 pm Some corporation is trying to put a rock quarry in our neighborhood.

Re: Don't Get Mad Get Even
You do know that the Republican Party ignores the wishes of their constituents on a fairly regular basis, right?
If you look at issue after issue, the country leans left, yet the wishes of the majority never enter into the decision-making of the GOP that you support.
Of course, some of those don't personally affect you so why should you care, right?
Not so great to be on the receiving end of the "I've got mine, screw you" philosophy, is it? I mean, I guess you're fortunate to be able to at least try to fight NIMBY. Many others aren't so lucky, big business just seems to roll over them.
Re: Don't Get Mad Get Even
The council voted it down once but now they are coming back for a second bite of the apple.
General consensus is current council voted it down with a wink and a nod.

Re: Don't Get Mad Get Even
Why would you want to interfere with a land owner doing what they want to do on land they own? Isn’t that being hypocritical? Didn’t you move to the country to keep from being told what you could and couldn’t do on your own land?
Re: Don't Get Mad Get Even
Conservatives are fine with corporations running roughshod over the land until it affects the next farm over, then they get livid. Hypocrites, one and all.
Don't move to LA. City leaders here subscribe to the Golden Rule. The guy with the gold gets to dictate the rules.

He's fine with telling others what they can do or not do with their property but when it affects him he's a "NIMBY."

No first there is no need for it secondly it would negatively affect our property values.

So you get to do what you want on YOUR land, but they don't get to do what they want on THEIR land.
Hypocrisy.
Oh, and you can check the map - there's a quarry just over a mile from my house. Doesn't effect MY property values. And they only blast during the day.

Re: Don't Get Mad Get Even
It doesn't matter. You moved to the country because you don't want zoning. You've made the argument to me that if a pig farmer wanted to set up shop next to you, that would be fine. You were being a hypocrite.
You don't like being told what to do, but you have no problem telling other people what to do, huh?
Re: Don't Get Mad Get Even
Two excuses used by NIMBIES.
First, what knowledge do you have that it is not needed. Would a company invest hundreds of thousands to a million or more dollars if they didn't need it?
How far away are you from this proposed rock quarry? Since you live out in the country, chances are if the quarry isn't right next to you your property value wouldn't be affected.
Good luck with that. Tell us what they said after they stopped laughing. Now if they want to cut me a check for 100k

Re: Don't Get Mad Get Even
Someone see's the need for a quarry.
Kinda like some people see the need for a wallyworld.
i do find one thing odd though. Revenge?
When we put a stop to T.I.F. in our city, it wasn't for revenge. Revenge had nothing to do with it.
It was common sense.
[bold] You'd have to wait until it was built up around you before ya could demand such a thing. It's called progress.

That's down by Harriet island, To close to the Cedar Avenue, Metrodome, scene. Wasn't a bad area to visit back when. Unfortunately, it's to close to "mass shootings" for my taste. i'd rather head north.Bludogdem wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 3:19 pm A whole host of moonbats would be up in arms and opposition.
