1/oh my goodness: Just got crushing news from Tracy Breslin, wife of
@EricBoehlert
https://pressrun.media Has died in a bike accident, age 57. Adored his kids Jane and Ben, his dogs, biking and running and basketball and good friends, a fierce and fearless defender of the truth

2/Eric was an amazing friend. He fought to rescue journalism and democracy, which need saving. Worked at Rolling Stone, Billboard, founded Media Matters and Salon, Pressrun on Substack. Brutal to bad media on twitter, sweetest guy in real life
FUCK

Frequent guest on Stephanie Miller. Yesterday Stephanie's dog Jamie died unexpectedly. Like someone at DU said about this, the world is out of kilter. The good people are dying or getting sick and the disgusting people live on and on.

Still waiting for official word. On Twitter I saw his local town paper with an article about the accident but didnt name him. The Sun (murdoch I think) so I wont link it, is reporting this.

I sigh in your general direction.

This is a HUGE loss.

My friend read the linked article and warned that it is misleading, that it implies he only criticized rightwing media, which was not true at all. He often criticized legit media too like the NY Times, MSNBC etc.

I dont know who here is a regular listener of Stephanie Miller but he was on every Monday and it was the best regular guest she had, by far. I learned so much from him.

Yeah, they were saying in Randi's chat that Stephanie's dog also just died. Horrible double whammy.

I notice there seems to be some confusion over at DU about how he died. Seems he was riding his bike at night, in the dark, and in the rain. Probably hit a slippery deep patch and may have slid or slammed into something that temporarily knocked him out. Unfortunately, this also put him on top of the train tracks. Looks like this is how he died. Tragic.

This is pretty shocking news. Eric was quite well thought of. I used to ride a bike a fair bit on roads etc. At my current age I no longer do so. There are a lot of bike accidents in these parts.

Rest in peace, sir.

I've never liked biking on streets, and never did after getting a DL. But I loved to bike most of my life, and luckily Wichita had a wonderful system of off-street bike trails built around the river, so that's what I always used. They were built back when Wichita was a Democratic Party-ran town.

He was hit by a train

Eric Boehlert, well-known writer and media analyst, killed by train in New Jersey
A bicyclist who was killed by a New Jersey Transit train Monday night was writer Eric Boehlert, founder and editor of Press Run, a blog about the media, according to his wife, Tracy Breslin.

Boehlert, 57, was a veteran writer and media analyst and a frequent television and radio guest discussing politics and the press on CNN and CNBC. He was a founding editor of Salon magazine, a fellow with Media Matters, and a former writer with Rolling Stone and Billboard magazines. He wrote two books, "Lapdogs: How the Press Rolled Over for Bush," and "Bloggers on the Bus."

I'm not much of a fan of E-bike because they're more of a motor scooter than a bicycle. The purpose of riding a bicycle is you provide the power. I ride a bicycle and I like the feeling I get after a 20- or 30-mile ride. Riding in the sun, fresh air, and the benefits of the exercise makes it worthwhile.

Where I live, I see adults and kids riding the E-bikes and most of them are dangerous to themself and others not stopping at stop signs, riding on sidewalks in the downtown area, and treating the E-bikes as a toy. I'll admit, I'm in the small minority of bicycle riders who stops for stop signs, stop lights, uses hand signals, and announces when they're passing pedestrians walking on the street or on the bike paths.
