Oxford Schools superintendent warns community of potentially triggering Law & Order episode
....“They are profiting off of everybody around us suffering. I mean, the tragedy that took place. It’s too soon. It’s way too soon," Caddick said......
A lot of people are profiting from the school shootings politicians and industry, security, governmental agencies and law enforcement, manufacturing, construction, attorneys, technology, mental health. Not sure why the tv people are being singled out here.

Entertainment does not change the world, because its manufacture is controlled by power. Entertainment is a tool.

Entertainment is controlled itself by the whims of the public, and the most successful entertainers are usually the ones that have intuitively connected with something that a sizeable segment of the potential audience, in other words those who can afford to be entertained, unconsciously desire. In practice, entertainment becomes a version of propaganda, only peripherally controlled by the big money, but often a useful tool of money to spread its gospel of wealth and rule by the ones who weaponize it the most effectively.

While avant-garde arts are flourishing presently, they remain peripheral to the major action, which can be seen by where the ad money is going. It's basically streaming, which is in an embryonic stage in which everyone who can find backing starts a production company, or a distribution network, or both. It's reached the point where traditional movies have to say "only in theaters" on their ads.

Right now streaming is at a stage where the emphasis is on quantity, not quality, with everyone starting up new stuff that's just like the old stuff only more of it. It can't last in the current model. People can't afford 30 subscriptions.

A show about a school shooting is just that, a show. It won't change attitudes. At worst, it will continue the trend to normalize school shootings, when a rational country would be trying everything it could think of to stop them. I doubt that it will precipitate a wave of same, since TV in its various forms of distribution is not the major driver of the phenomenon. Most of the potential perps are already off in an Internet underground that glorifies gun violence and produces the next generations of shooters.

I would love to disagree with you but yield to your expertise.
I know when we first got NETFLIX it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Today not so much. To the point if I had a home every night job I would cancel it

Funny you should mention Netflix. Its earnings came in way short of expectation, to the point where its stock literally collapsed. They have partially mollified investors by promising to end password sharing (presumably by 2-factor authentication) and, yes, to start a lower-priced version which will run commercials.

In other words, cable by any other name, but with fewer channels and no cable.

Have we seen the future of streaming? I don't know. Stay tuned.

TV, for years, has made story lines out of actual events. I remember L.A. Law from the 80s having episodes along the lines of actual new stories. It's no different today. Currently, there is a female prison guard missing with a male prisoner and I wouldn't doubt within the year we'll see an episode of this event on one of the police drama or a Lifetime movie. Are they making money off a school shooting? Definitely. Are they profiting off the victims or those involved the answer is no because the show will change names and locations to avoid that. Some may not like what TV does dramatizing these events but as long as the public watches the show the longer media companies will do this.

Yea they took something that was pleasing to customers that had some flexibility to it and added contempt, aggravation, and interrogation to the mix. Having to prove and reprove and submit proof that your deserving of that thing you already purchased isnt as popular as being left to the enjoyment of it.
