Hot dog, Biden got a little bit extra in that bill over what the framework was talked about in the news just two days ago.ap215 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 10:59 am Pres Biden gives update on $1.75T spending bill, infrastructure plan | WATCH LIVE

The same amount over what my estimate of what was possible as of four months ago. I remember saying a long time ago that I thought it was possible to get Manchin to vote for 1.5 trillion and not a bit more.
I expect Manchin like pork for his state as well as anyone.

Get it done. Progressives need to accept this and attempt wins at the midterms to attempt more. Not all or nothing now. Going all or nothing now, like I’m hearing from some, is not going to help with the upcoming elections.

If progs do that
But while they threaten a tantrum, lets not forget who is to blame for all of this...the ENTIRE GOP has refused to help Americans with safer roads and air and more jobs and on and on. All cons are fascist killers who need to leave the country TODAY!
I sigh in your general direction.

Sinema is still saying no. She spent the morning making dumb skit videos with Mitt.

Her con owners have a plan for us. Make it look like dems are to blame, when they are not, so we lose the House and Senate and so on.

All jokes aside I believe the tax plan they came up is fair and just. My only worry is that it won't raise enough revenue. But, on the other hand it might raise more than we need.
None of us will know until the revenue starts coming in. But, at the end of the day the tax plan turned out fine and in a manner that shouldn't hurt our economy or effect those high income folks who have to pay it.

And they WORK. I guarantee YOU'LL be drawing on both of them!JoeMemphis wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 4:44 pm They are entitlement programs the government calls insurance. You don’t own anything.
But they ARE social insurance. For instance, if you are disabled, it pays benefits for the rest of your life. If you die, your children receives benefits until they are 21.
As much as the people YOU VOTE FOR hate them and want to end them, they WORK.

You can call them anything you like. But within the government they are entitlement program funds by taxes. The trust funds don’t really mean anything. If they run out the government will monetize all this to pay benefits. Nobody is going to cut them. They may make minor reforms. One day they may actually means test them.gounion wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 4:48 pm And they WORK. I guarantee YOU'LL be drawing on both of them!

The are safety net programs. At least that was the thought.

Our problem is, to keep the people you vote for from having full power, because they WILL end these programs.
OR, if they get enough right-wing nuts on the Supreme Court, they will declare them unconstitutional, Which IS what the far right says they are.

I don't know what you're talking about. You didn't give a link or quote a source.
This is what Kyrsten Sinema said at 8:45 this morning:
https://twitter.com/SenatorSinema/statu ... gr%5EtweetAfter months of productive, good-faith negotiations with @POTUS and the White House, we have made significant progress on the proposed budget reconciliation package. I look forward to getting this done, expanding economic opportunities and helping everyday families get ahead.
Re: Pres Biden gives update on $1.75T spending bill, infrastructure plan | WATCH LIVE
From my experience being involved in DC, I've always felt at the very end, both would be on board. In the Bob Woodward book Peril, when they were working on the first infrastructure bill, Manchin told Biden he would NEVER block Biden's legacy - which is Build Back Better. He said he would be there at the end.
So I figured the same here. And Sinema - I'm here to tell you I'm so disappointed in her. But it's the same thing there. If she blocked Biden's signature bill, she'd be toast. So I think she's there in the end too.
But they wanted to heavily shape the bill. I understand that Big Pharma gave her a TON of money. And... (here's the final provisions) the provision to allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices is gone. Congrats, Joe, your gravy train will continue unabated!
It looks like the money pharma puts into buying these lawmakers sure pays off! And the American people will pay the price.
But it also says that Glenn will be saving about $600 a year in ObamaCare health insurance prices. I'm sure you'll pretend it's not happening, Glenn.

You are entitled to your opinion. IMO nobody seriously expects any politician to end those programs. Way too many seniors who vote. It’s just a talking point to frighten seniors.gounion wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 5:55 pm And they are. There is no way at all to fund health care for seniors except this way. That’s why they’d love to have the Supreme Court kill it. That way they could deny they ever planned it, and it would be done and nothing could be done about it, short of a Constitutional amendment.JoeMemphis wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 6:13 pm You are entitled to your opinion. After meeting with Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, Rep. Pramila Jayapal says she is still unchanged and would vote against The infrastructure bill if it came to the floor today. The congresswoman said it was a great conversation with Sinema, but declined to say if she got any assurances.

It's Jaypal who's still unchanged and would still vote against the highway infrastructure bill if it came to the house floor today as a stand alone bill like they were trying to do about a month ago.
Jaypal doesn't trust the Senators, and for good reason, they are not trust worthy.
She's going to continue to block the bipartisan highway infrastructure bill until the Senate votes for and passes the budget resolution human infrastructure bill as package along with the highway infrastructure bill.
Sinema is on board.
Jaypal will be on board in the House when the time comes, assuming that the Senator's perform and pass the budget resolution. I would imagine Jaypal is doing exactly what Pelosi wants her to do while Pelosi pretends that she's irritated by it.
