OK, let me get this straight: A truckload of U.S. truckers has assembled outside Washington, D.C., to protest something, but nobody quite knows what. Is it the mask and vaccine mandates that most cities and states have already dropped? Who knows.

On Sunday, they formed a convoy and did two loops around the Capital Beltway. What did they accomplish? Who knows.

They’re threatening to repeat the driving-around-in-a-big-circle thing Monday, but to show they really mean business, they’re adding a third Beltway lap, and organizers say they’ll add an extra lap each day until their demands are met. What are their demands? Again, who knows.

Interesting talk on some network or other with a writer who has spent considerable time studying the Flat Earth Society. She's of course right that even the ancient Greeks had proven that the planet was round. The original Flat Earth Society seems to have come from a single die-hard creationist in the 19th Century, who sought to prove for once and for all that science was some kind of heathen conspiracy. Ever since, it has been evolving a peculiar and ever more absurd cosmology to explain why things are the way we see them.

The trucker protests in France started over fuel prices. The ones over here seem to have evolved more into another Flat Earth Society. They will make up ever more bizarre and complicated conspiracy theories to explain away a simple public health episode they'd rather not believe happened because, after all, it was the government that said it did.

There is, of course, no talking logic with flat-earthers. They'll just make up a conspiracy theory about you. The Internet gave them a tool, and they ran with it until they had the memetic version of nuclear capability.

The funniest thing about these dumb truckers is once those funding their convoy quit paying the truckers' fuel bills the truckers will have to pay for the fuel out of their own pockets to get back home and they'll complain about the high fuel prices.

It looks like D.C. drivers have more reason than ever to let their middle fingers fly, but I wouldn’t recommend it, as apparently you could find yourself in a dangerous situation sandwiched between bullies. While this video of a People’s Convoy driver hitting the window of a passenger car in busy traffic is pretty infuriating, their tactics on the road didn’t just end at direct road rage confrontations. Petrizzo described what he saw on Twitter:

The People's Convoy continued to box in cars on the Beltway this morning, so naturally, I asked Maryland State Police about why truckers are getting away with such. "We will continue to address any violations of the law while we maintain the free flow of traffic," a spox says.

That is straight up dangerous and harassing behavior. Apparently these fools need a reminder, but a whole lot of normal people live and work in D.C. Teachers, doctors, secretaries, plumbers, short-order cooks; you are harassing and threatening the lives of the very American people you claim to hold so dear. Not to mention creating stop-and-go traffic during a monstrous spike in fuel costs.
