Ohio Suspends Betting on Alabama Baseball

Post by Glennfs »

And so it begins. Due to suspicious activity Ohio has suspended bets on Alabama baseball.
Fixing of games won't occur in high dollar sports like football or basketball. It will occur in the under the radar sports like baseball.

The big money is in the big sports. People will figure out how to rig the system.

Well, you also have the Dolphins a couple of seasons ago that wanted to throw games to get a better draft pick. Sounds like game fixing to me.

What Miami did was gaming the system. It had nothing to do with throwing games for gambling interests.
IMO there is nothing wrong with gaming the system in order to improve your team.

I'd say that those people betting on Miami finding out that the owner was going to throw the games wouldn't agree with you.

I bet the owner let all his buddies know they weren't planning on winning the games, so they could bet big knowing it was a sure thing.

If they were doing their homework they would have known to avoid those games. Some of which Miami covered

So it's fine when the teams throw games. Got it.

I'd say that anyone who bets on these games PERIOD should just realize things are rigged, when the leagues are making billions getting people to bet.

They didn't throw the game by not playing their best players.
Throwing the game is intentionally fumbling or missing extra points etc

Also not playing to win is throwing the game. But go ahead, defend corruption.

The leagues taking billions in gambling money will NOT end well. Judge Mountain Landis would be rolling over in his grave.

They SURE as hell need to put Pete Rose in the HoF now, since gambling is what the leagues are built upon.

When you respond to DeSantis' actions against Disney. All you are doing there is deflecting.

No, you haven't EVER responded. You just diverted.

They are able to build their own infrastructure. I know, you want the taxpayer to do it for corporations for free.

Again economic development is not giving away anything.
SC spent 250 million in economic development regarding BMW.
11000 BMW jobs plus at least that many outside jobs creates over 40 million a year in tax revenues.
Plus we now have perhaps the leading school of transportation engineering in the nation.
Plus BMW has contributed over a billion dollars to our state.
How is that explanation a deflection.

It is bribery.

I guess you would rather that Florida had taken the land from the owners, given it to Disney, then built all the infrastructure in the swamps, then built all the hotels and amusement parks for Disney, and paid to employ all their workers, all with tax money.

Hey ( self proclaimed) genius. If you want to go back to the world of 1965 when we didn't have to compete in a world economy you would be correct.
Except Florida did give Disney incentives. Disney bought the land at Rock bottom prices and there were no environmental wackos around to keep them in court for decades for destruction of a swamp.

No incentives. Just the chance to develop swamp land into the biggest employer and taxpayer in Florida.

Of course, the corporations in South Carolina don't have to pay ANY taxes.

And Florida has no problem with destroying their environment. They are destroying the Everglades as we speak.

Plus, we know South Carolina would pay Disney billions to come to their state, and would do everything for them for free.

You just intentionally lied again when you falsely said that corporations in South Carolina don't have to pay taxes.
Of course you resort to lying because the truth doesn't fit your narrative so you lie

So why is it you knowingly lie? Could it be because your Marxist beliefs can't hold up to the truth?

You didn't read your link, did you Glenn? It's a 1999 article, and it says that the big tax giveaways have been a burden on regular, human taxpayers who have to pay more, and the fact that the corporations are sucking up all the giveaways are keeping the state from investing in it's schools and crumbling infrastructure.

What I've been saying all along. Thanks for the link, Glenn!

Yes I knew that was in there because of course a liberal paper has to include a liberal opinion when writing a factual piece that shows conservatives have a better plan.

So you are claiming that the peach orchard where the world's largest BMW plant now sits which created at least 20 000 good paying jobs.
And
The swamp where Boeing now sits which created at least 14000 good paying jobs. Plus all the jobs the 50 to 100 other companies like Mercedes. Created more tax revenues than the giant business complex which now occupy that previously unused land.
Such is liberal logic

No, YOU are the one who is the conservative, remember? The one that thinks the free market should decide, without government interference, remember?

So now you're saying that business can't stand on it's own, that it requires the taxpayer to pay it's way. That it can't compete in a free market, but has to have a government to do everything for it.

You're just scrambling now that you posted yet ANOTHER article without reading it first, and it said the exact opposite of what you THOUGHT it said.

The desire by universities to keep a close eye on the betting market was driven home over the past several months because of scandals at Alabama, Iowa and Iowa State.

More than a dozen current and former Iowa and Iowa State athletes and staffers face charges and the Cyclones may kick off their football season missing a handful of starters.

Iowa said it has received information about 111 individuals — including 26 athletes from baseball, football, men’s basketball, men’s track and field and wrestling — as well as one full-time employee of the athletic department.
It's only the beginning.

Personally, I'd like to watch a game on TV that doesn't seem secondary to all the gambling advertising and broadcast tie-ins.
