The twisted sickness you see from board cons here who hate everything good that happens, did not start with Trump

Post by Libertas »

It started here

THE MAN WHO BROKE POLITICS
Newt Gingrich turned partisan battles into bloodsport, wrecked Congress, and paved the way for Trump’s rise. Now he’s reveling in his achievements.

Then to make matters worse, the people doing GOOD for the country elected

It didn’t even start with Newt Gingrich. It started with anti-Civil Rights commiebaiters like Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagan a generation before him.

It started 400 years ago when white people decided they could own black people. That was in this country. It has been in existence forever as wealth shit on poor people followed by capital shitting on labor.

True, true.

That, and slaughtering the people who were already here and stealing their land.

Like their ancestors, today's colonizers still don't consider this behavior to be oppressive or amoral. Instead they call these barbaric atrocities "bringing civilization." Then turn around and lecture everyone else about "unity" and "civility." :? :problem:

The eagerness to exploit others continues into this very hour.

Newt took it to a new level with a "take no prisoners" attitude. Prior to that, there was more civility among members of both parties as well as more bipartisanship. Reagan and Tip O'Neill opposed each other but they worked together, and were friends, but they passed Social Security reform together.

Yes and Newt shut down the stupid government. I'll never forget that.

Newt is also another horseshoe, IIRC. So-called liberal history professor in the 70s. My how times change. :problem:

It wasnt so much that there was more civility and bi-partisanship, there actually wasn't, it was that there was less inequality and higher standard of living and less concentrated wealth. Politicians couldn't as easily cater to just a handful of people because the wealth distribution hadn't been completely decimated yet. Workers and middle class still had a share of power that was big enough important enough to have some representation. It was by necessity that they worked together at all.

Before Newt the Republicans were a bunch of wealthy blue blood back benchers who were satisfied getting tossed a bone once in awhile. As long as they got invited to the correct dinner parties and social events.

They didn't try to become the majority because they didn't want to be the majority.

Cons are now all behind a traitor. A con man, someone who bragged about secually assaulting Women.

Anyone who votes for any con, unless doing so to manipulate the vote like in sa primary, is committing an act of support to the traitor.

I dont know what to call it, but there is no argument that refutes this. None.

Hey what's it like to be a sycophant of demagoguery?

Reason I ask is, the quickest/dirtiest/laziest way to win over the average conservative dullard is to appeal to flagrant anti-Black, anti-minority, anti-immigrant racism. Never, ever fails; works every time.

Lucky them!

It worked, congratulations!

Gingrich: Obama’s ‘Kenyan, anti-colonial’ worldview - National Review, 2010
Citing a recent Forbes article by Dinesh D’Souza, former House speaker Newt Gingrich tells National Review Online that President Obama may follow a “Kenyan, anti-colonial” worldview.

Gingrich says that D’Souza has made a “stunning insight” into Obama’s behavior — the “most profound insight I have read in the last six years about Barack Obama.”

“What if [Obama] is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together [his actions]?” Gingrich asks. “That is the most accurate, predictive model for his behavior.”
Lmao..and all you wanabe culture-warriors of the past generation swiftly fell for this old confederate/colonizer scam.

Ivy Leaguers and semi-Ivy ideologues like him and Dinesh D'Souza keep exploiting you guys over and over and over and over, and you subserviently give them your votes and your munny over and over and over and over. I find this sick cycle of corruption and self-loathing to be very weird, but whatever. :?

Newt and a couple of other people rebooted the Republican Party.

First it gained control of the language, then it gained control of the companies that put out our media. Then it was taken over by white nationalists, and when hot-button conspiracism replaced discourse via the Internet, they gained control of the government.

Newt Gingrich is a white nationalist who was a top Republican before the internet as we know it. So was Pat Buchanan.

And a lot of these other dirty old bigots.

I'm fully aware that there's an evolutionary process that predates the wide adoption of the Internet. I've talked about the history on this board several times. A lot of people in the rich white folks' end of LA couldn't talk about what they actually did at work, and it turned out that a lot of it related to just developing plain old TCP/IP routed networking. At one time it was a big time nuke secret, designed to keep passing data if some of its nodes got vaporized.

The only thing new about the Internet is that the corporations got hold of it and turned it into yet another way to turn our money into their money. Now it's designed to keep passing ads to impressionable people and to keep selling more and more different subscriptions to ever more STUFF. Even that's really 2010 news. The game was up when the government decided to let the net evolve. They did that because they knew it would reboot the economy at a time when it needed rebooting.

The law of unintended consequences strikes again. You can't stop technology from evolving, but there ought to be better ways to keep it from always turning into a money machine that transfers our cash to the same white upper class twits in the same large houses in the same executive suburbs with their own airports. Also, some way to avoid the unpleasant side effects such as a full blown white supremacist international fascist movement that's in the Nooz damn near as much as the Democratic Party.

At one time it could have gone either way. There were just as many people starting peace coalitions using the net as an organizing tool as there were people riling up the poor white folks that their problem is that the poorer black folks might not stay poorer. There were plenty of conspiracy theories on both sides. Surely you remember the ones about the Republicans orchestrating 9/11 to get their agenda passed. (MIHOP and LIHOP, if I recall correctly.) Or the one that HIV drugs were actually the cause of HIV and it was a CIA plot to wipe out the population of Africa. Everyone had one or two friends that actually believed stuff like that. It was just one of those things that a few people did, with no lasting consequences.

Something changed.

Point is, the internet makes for a great villain in a story, but scapegoating "the internet" for what was already an integral, impacted part of so-called "white" cultures does not address the root of the problem.

There's a reason rich white folks in LA even got those kinds of networking and programming jobs to begin with and it's called legalized discrimination on the basis of race and gender. Everybody at RFL was born into that era of segregation.

That situation with the white upper class twits predates the internet by literally centuries and hundreds of years.

And yet, here we all are, posting on the internet.

i remember the Humanist Manifesto. It was one of the first ones the religious right honed in on. Apparently every teacher in the U.S. had a copy stashed in their desks.

The difference? i dunno. It didn't seem to trend then like it does now. Add an algorithm and it gets even more fucked up.

I think you're right about that, Zowie is right about that, and no one TMK disputes it because it's a fact.

If you're making the connection between the 70s' freakouts against "secular humanism" and today's anti-CRT/bee ell emm/Anteefuh/anti-trans freakouts, you'd be exactly correct. viewtopic.php?p=23073#p23073

It's also generationally the same people, like, literally the same people sent to the white schools during "forced busing" that are now stinking up conservative politics, today.

Keep in mind: algorithms are also what send you what you want to hear about the cops. So there's that.

Algorithms are tools.

Nowadays, they make the world go round. They do everything. I'm using a few thousand of them just by posting this. Your car won't go without them. You can't get a Tesla right now because Elon Musk can't get enough Chinese chips to make enough cars to fill dealer orders.

Often the consequences are unintended. It is beyond the arguing stage that the Internet has had the unintended consequence of making conspiracy theories look more credible in writing than they ever did when it was some guy in a bar proclaiming that the CIA was trying to kill us.

The algorithm thing gets into this. It's not the cause, but it can be an enabler if used badly.

Social networks make a profit by selling ads. Same as free TV. Remember free TV? It was never free. You paid more for products to cover their makers' ad buys.

Nobody can sell ads unless they deliver measurable results on metrics that business schools spend a lot of time on. Generally, impressions are the engine that makes any medium profitable. You have to have a lot of them. Millions of them. The results are typically measured in cost per million (impressions). These metrics make the whole economy go. It became necessary to write algorithms that would increase impressions, and the consequences be damned if you had to create positive feedback loops with the side effect of increasing self-harm or antisocial thought and behavior.

But it's not the algorithms' fault. They could be modified, and the programmers know that, and they have told management that many times.... but it would hurt advertising. Game over.

Nobody gave me a copy. :D

But yes I remember those freakouts.

Thing is, I tended to respond to them by pointing out humanism is largely an outgrowth of the Renaissance.

No humanism -- no Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, or Donatello. And we don't want that, now do we?

On the topic of algorithms, I take one political position. There can no longer be a corporate "right" to keep ones' algorithms proprietary. If you're going to use them, you need to be transparent on how they're written and what they do. In essence, in the public interest, they must be open source.

Making algorithms code that everyone can see in the public domain has to be one of the key political issues of the 21st century.

I left the Andrew Yang fan club a long time ago, but I at least remember him talking about this issue when no other candidates were doing it.

This would require credible and accurate plain language explanations. Otherwise source code files became unintelligible years ago. List out the code to any web site and you'll know what I'm talking about. Not only did the scripting languages become more minimal and esoteric, but everything went to classes, objects, and database queries. Also programmers learned how to obfuscate code, so even other programmers might not get the full story from a first glance at a listing.

What a given routine actually does requires a plain language description of why it's happening.

It was the old Bill Moyers PBS Politics and Economy board. His name was Robert Larimer and he absolutely believed "The Humanist Manifesto" was being taught by the Commies in our public school system. Ahhhhh, fun times.

Right now, i'd settle for people even knowing what a fucking algorithm is. 9 out of 10 don't seem to have a clue that they are being fed bullshit.
