(Hetero) women do sexually harass. It does happen. Not even just in Hollywood movies.

As I said, the lack of frequency has to do with general gender power dynamics in our society, and gender socialization.

Women are less likely to have the kind of power over men as vice versa, and are not socialized to believe they have a "girls' club" cheering on their behavior.

So it will still happen, if rarer.

Yes and despite the widespread "lesbian predator" stereotype, they also do harass lesbians and those perceived, as well.

Not saying no LBTQ women harass; obviously that's not true.

But this is more of that power dynamic thing. And hetero men are far more likely to harass LBTQ women.

Free Press’ Stephen Henderson terminated for misconduct

Quote:
........Gannett, owner of the Free Press, released this statement: “Effective today, Stephen Henderson will no longer be employed by the Detroit Free Press. The decision was made after an internal investigation was conducted which uncovered credible allegations that Mr. Henderson’s behavior has been inconsistent with company values and standards.”

Henderson won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 2014 for his columns in the Free Press. He worked at the Free Press from 1994-96 as an editorial writer and reporter and returned to the Free Press in 2007. He has worked as a journalist since his graduation from the University of Michigan in 1992.

“This is a devastatingly sad day for us at the Free Press. Stephen is a magnificent journalist and a treasured colleague who has done so much for Detroit,” said Bhatia. He said, however, that the incidents involving inappropriate behavior and comments directed at Free Press employees were counter to company policies and practices. There were no accusations or evidence of sexual assault.

Bhatia said there would be no further comment from the Free Press. “Out of respect for the privacy of the women involved and Stephen, we have no further details to share.”........

he was editor for The Detroit Free Press and also the host of "American Black Journal" on Detroit's PBS station.

Kaffer: 8 years into tests of abandoned rape kits, Worthy works for justice

Quote:
Ten thousand rape kits tested. One hundred twenty-seven convictions won, 1,947 cases investigated, 817 serial rapists identified.

It's been a long eight years for Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

In 2009, 11,341 untested sexual assault kits — the results of an hours-long process that collects evidence from the body of a rape victim — were found during a routine tour of a Detroit police storage warehouse, some dating back to 1984. Worthy and her team started the long and laborious process of testing those kits, investigating the crimes, and prosecuting the perpetrators — and launching Enough SAID, an effort to raise the money to complete the work. It's a reversal of a decades-long miscarriage of justice. This month, Worthy spoke to the Free Press about the work done thus far — and the long road ahead.................

Back to thread topic:

Franken urged to reverse his resignation
The demands from Democrats that he step down were 'the most hypocritical thing I’ve ever seen done to a human being,' Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) says.
https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/ ... ign-300843

At least four senators are urging Al Franken to reconsider resigning, including two who issued statements calling for the resignation two weeks ago and said they now feel remorse over what they feel was a rush to judgment.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who urged Franken not to step down to begin with — at least not before he went through an Ethics Committee investigation — said the Minnesota senator was railroaded by fellow Democrats.

[snip]

Franken's unusual timeline — in his departure announcement he said he’d go “in the coming weeks,” without setting a date — has fed the fleeting hopes that there’s still time to reverse course. However, Tina Smith, Minnesota's Democratic lieutenant governor, was named last week as his appointed successor.

People familiar with Franken's plans said he has not changed his mind and intends to formally resign in early January. He praised the selection of Smith and has begun working with her on the transition.

[snip]

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who issued a statement calling for Franken's resignation, has since told him privately that he regrets doing so, according to two people familiar with the conversation. Leahy declined to comment.

“I think we acted prematurely, before we had all the facts,” said a third senator who has also called for the resignation, and has since expressed regret directly to Franken. “In retrospect, I think we acted too fast.” The senator asked not to be named because of the political sensitivity of the issue among Democrats.

Two of the senators who issued resignation calls told POLITICO they felt rushed to weigh in, as they were focused on hearings and other meetings and pressure on Franken mounted. In retrospect they said they signed off on statements without the appropriate care and thought.

[snip]

“I and many other people — and specifically feminists — feel that it’s not too late, that he should not resign, and that the rush to sweep him out was ill-conceived, and we think that he has been supportive of women and women’s issues,” said Emily Jane Goodman, a retired New York state Supreme Court judge who’s helped start a Feminists for Franken group on Facebook. “Although we do deplore any kind of gender-based misconduct, we think at the same time he is entitled to a fair hearing.”

The group directly counters Gillibrand’s statement that there should be no gradations made in assessing problematic sexual conduct: “We believe it is crucial to make distinctions and to respond proportionally,” the group’s mission statement reads. (*)

[snip][end]

(*) Yay. Liberals should not be endorsing "zero tolerance" disproportionate justice. That is for conservatives, who only see things in black and white, and adore punishment above all else.

Sen. Gillibrand does not have a monopoly on the feminist viewpoint.

Many of us see some over-reaction developing here. Maybe we are more focused on some potential victims than others. Again, don't get me wrong. We need to do away with the culture that ignored the victims of Harvey Weinstein and that discourages victims from coming forward. Sorry, Roy Moore, we should not slut-shame rape victims. However, even many (female) feminists understand that not all offenses are equivalent, or should be treated exactly the same. That is also aside from the point of whether we should adjudicate responses without full due process as to guilt or innocence.

Franken was unfortunate that the timing put it in a phase of extreme moral high grounding. The Democrats, needing a quick proof that they wouldn't tolerate a Moore in their party, needed to send a goat off into the woods carrying the sins of the community. He became that goat. It doesn't quite rise to a human sacrifice, but the same idea of absolving sins through a loss seems to be present.

The original accusation is subject to interpretation, and the accuser was fronting for the Roger Stone GOP dirty trick machine. The ones after that seem like bad behavior, but nothing close to what other #MeToo targets did.

Post subject:  Re: Breaking.....Franken Resigns.

The big problem is I think 4 accusers are/were anonymous. I might have the wrong number. But it was high.

Now, on the one hand, I can understand if they were real victims, why they might want anonymity. It's kind of like not using your real name on a message board. I kid. The stakes are MORE serious. ;)

But on the other, I think we can see that until their identities are established - even if it's in a private hearing where nobody other than Ethics committee members ever learn their real names and identities - well, it could be a tool for Roger Stone style ratfucking.

The final accuser said Al put his hand on her waist. Now look, I am not saying you should touch women you don't know anywhere while taking a photo. It's inappropriate behavior. (*) You don't know them, or what they might be sensitive about. But treating this as if Al slammed her against a wall and raped her - well, no. It's not the same.

(*) I might add a few commentators have noted cultural issues might come into play here. Some cultures are more OK with interpersonal touching between strangers, some with less. After all, Americans get a bit shocked when Eastern Europeans come up, greet them for the first time, and kiss them on both cheeks. Especially male on male.

Stephen Henderson addresses Free Press firing on WDET: 'I want to apologize'

Quote:
.......Henderson said Monday that the situations involved two employees. He said he had encouraged one to disclose previous, sexually-themed conversations, which he said occurred several years ago in social situations outside of work. The other employee, a co-worker who was a manager in another department, "reported two rejected advances that she said made her uncomfortable," he said.

He also said he disagreed with the investigation's outcome and is exploring legal action.

"But I want to make a few things clear before we move forward. I want to apologize to the women involved. It was bad judgment, on my part, to have engaged in either situation. As a senior leader at the Free Press, I should have acted more responsibly. I also want to apologize to Free Press readers, to our listeners here at WDET, and to viewers of Detroit Public Television," Henderson said.

WDET also released a statement from General Manager Michelle Srbinovich, who said the station did not immediately see cause to end its contract with Henderson. She and Henderson read their statements at the beginning of his show, Detroit Today, at 9 a.m. Monday.........

The 66-year-old Clearwater Republican resigned amid a public corruption probe and a possible Senate expulsion vote.

Facing a public corruption investigation and possible expulsion from the Florida Senate, Jack Latvala resigned Wednesday, a day after a retired judge concluded that he likely violated state corruption laws by trading legislative favors for physical contact and for sexually harassing and groping multiple women.

Ford, hit with lawsuits, launches sexual harassment prevention campaign in U.S. factories

Quote:
........The message, captioned to reach workers regardless of noise interference, is playing on monitors in various plant locations on a continual loop. The monitors are usually used to highlight worker issues, including safety updates.

In August, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the federal agency that investigates workplace discrimination, reached a $10 million settlement with Ford for sexual and racial harassment at two Chicago plants. This week, The New York Times published a report on Ford and its chronic history of a problem that doesn't seem to go away. A lawsuit against Ford is making its away through the courts now.

"In the 1990s, a string of lawsuits and an EEOC investigation resulted in a $22 million settlement and a commitment by Ford to crack down," the Times said. The report outlined 25 years of incidents where female employees were "mocked, dismissed, threatened and ostracized" after reporting incidents of men who "crudely commented on their breasts and buttocks"; groped them, pressed against them and "simulated sex acts or masturbated in front of them.".......

The NFL, their in-house newsroom, the NFL everything including their owners and many of the player is more than likely rife with sexual harassment and other misconduct AP.

Their cheerleading squads they have assemble and promote make a strong visible argument for that idea without words. I would imagine some of the cheerleaders themselves engage themselves with some nasty sexual harassment and other misconduct as well.

When there were slaves their were slave catchers. When there were Nazi's there were the Judenräte.

The miss America pageant owner Trump falls under suspicion for sexual harassment and other misconduct as well. Among the contestant women harassed there will be contestant women who support and engage in sexual harassment.

When that about him cruising into the dressing area came out there was a contestant woman or two who defended him saying he did not do that. Their argument appears to of the line, if they didn't see it, it didn't happen, stated with firm assurance.
