 Is this a precursor of war with Iran.....? I guess we'll have to stay tuned?

WILL THE U.S. GO TO WAR? IRAN SAYS IT FEELS LIKE IRAQ RIGHT BEFORE THE INVASION

Iran's top diplomat compared a recent U.S. exhibition about his country's alleged growing missile threat to the rhetoric heard in the days leading up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, raising fears that the White House's hard-line stance against Tehran could erupt into conflict.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif took to social media Thursday to criticize a press conference held earlier in the day by U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley in which she attempted to establish a link between Iran and a missile fired at Saudi Arabia by the Yemeni Zaidi Shiite Muslim rebel Houthi movement, suggesting Iran continued to build missiles and offered support to militant groups abroad. Zarif, who served as Iran's representative to the U.N. from 2002 to 2007, likened the display to former Secretary of State Colin Powell's U.N. 2003 presentation intended to highlight the need to go to war with Iraq.

"When I was based at the UN, I saw this show and what it begat...," Zarif tweeted, along with side-by-side images of Haley and Powell delivering their respective presentations.

At her conference, which took place in a warehouse at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., Haley stood before the remnants of the Burkan (Volcano) 2-H short-range ballistic missile that she said was fired by Houthi rebels toward the Saudi capital of Riyadh last month. While the official Saudi and U.S. account claimed that the incoming projectile was stopped by the U.S.-built Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile defense system, an expert investigation later suggested the missile struck the ground, missing the city's international airport by about half a mile. The attack prompted an intensification of Saudi Arabia's war against the Houthis and sparked condemnation from the U.S., which has sought to isolate Iran diplomatically under President Donald Trump. Haley displayed the missile and its resemblance to the Iranian Qiam 1 missile as "indisputable" evidence that Iran was in violation of U.N. Security Council 2231, which prohibited Iran from exporting missiles and was adopted in support of the 2015 nuclear deal that Trump has since decertified.

"As you know, we do not often declassify this type of military equipment recovered from these attacks, but today we are taking an extraordinary step of presenting it here in an open setting," she said. "We did this for a single urgent purpose: because the Iranian regime cannot be allowed to engage in its lawless behavior any longer."

Haley's ultimatum was reminiscent of Powell's 2003 presentation in which he asserted that "Saddam Hussein and his regime will stop at nothing until something stops him." Haley's other assertion, that "it’s hard to find a conflict or a terrorist group in the Middle East that does not have Iran’s fingerprints all over it," also echoed Powell's charge that "terrorism has been a tool used by Saddam for decades" and that the Iraqi leader "provides haven and active support for terrorists.".........

Trump desperately wants a war to distract from the investigation and try to raise his popularity. They feel that if the USA is at war, the president is untouchable. The sad reality is, there are folks that will go ape shit in support of this ignoring the real reasons behind it.

Republicans are destroyers. They love war in order to create distractions and pad their pockets. It's sickening.

Nikki Haley is a fool.

Invading Iran will be nothing like invading Iraq. Iran has three times the population that Iraq did. Iraq was barely a country. The U.S. will get its ass kicked if it invades Iran.

With Trump saying he's going to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem attacking Iran would explode the Middle East worst than what Bush 43 accomplished. That region is lost to the U.S. for the next couple of decades and our influence there is limited. Iran and Saudi Arabia are vying for the Alpha Dog title in that region and the best the U.S. can hope for is to be able to whisper in the Saudi's ear U.S. interests. We would have to help prop up the Saudi Kingdom with money, weapons, and American military personnel. Another U.S. war in the Middle East would result in the loss of more American military lives, loss of even more civilian lives, and would put a tremendous strain on our economy and in the end what would we achieve?

Trump, put your toy saber away and let the professional diplomats (not Haley) work the problem like the adults they are.

 Most of the Arab World, including Trump's "best friend[s]" Saudi Arabia are upset with his move regarding Jerusalem and the U.S. Embassy. Now today, the media is in a frenzy because Trump is making what is being deemed as a "major foreign policy" speech! Everything has got to stop while Trump continues to alienate the United States further with the rest of the world~

Nothing. Although diplomatic postings seem to be patronage jobs at least for benign areas.

So classic Trump. Claimed foreign policy up until he arrived as Maximum Leader was incoherent, than put forward a speech that was so typically, for him, incoherent.

Full of false claims, inconsistencies, nonsensical asides. What is the Trump Doctrine of foreign policy? What are our foreign policy goals? American greatness. Obviously, up until Donald, everybody else only wanted American suckitude.

Fucked if I know, and that speech certainly didn't clarify.

To a lot of the country, "she looks foreign".

Hate to say it, but for those folks, it's true (that qualifies her).

Unfortunately, the diplomatic corps is where administrations put a lot of political hacks. Haley's qualifications, on paper, are not much little different than say, Richardson, who later became a decent diplomat. What qualified Caroline Kennedy to be appointed ambassador to Japan, one of the US's most important partners? (we all know)

So far, Haley's one of the few appointees who haven't totally messed up what she's supposed to do. So far (and I emphasize the so far) she hasn't gone to destroy the organization she works at. (I've worked there for a brief period and served on a national board supporting one of its constituent organizations, so while I have lots of problems with many parts of the UN, I clearly recognize where it has value as well.)

As for her appearance, I suspect that did play a role...but more for forieign audiences than domestic.

It will make Vietnam look like a lovely stroll through a Southeast Asian rain forest on a sunny spring day.
