Retired Navy commander gets 30 months prison for accepting ‘Fat Leonard’ bribes

SAN DIEGO — In an email arranging to hand off proprietary Navy information to the flamboyant contractor Leonard Francis, Navy Cmdr. Troy Amundson described himself as “a small dog just trying to get a bone.”

Later that night, Francis procured the services of several prostitutes from Mongolia for Amundson, prosecutors say, just one in a string of bribes that Francis paid for leaked military data.

Florida city commissioner charged with murder for shooting alleged shoplifter

A Lakeland, Florida, city commissioner is facing a second-degree murder charge in the fatal shooting of an alleged shoplifter at his military surplus store Oct. 3. Michael Dunn, who was inaugurated to a four-year term in office in January, appeared in court Monday to request bond, CBS affiliate WTSP reports.

Dunn was booked into Polk County Jail on Friday night without bond after a Polk County grand jury indicted him for second-degree murder. Several days earlier, the State Attorney's Office had released surveillance footage of Dunn's encounter with Christobal Lopez, 50, who was shopping with his father at the Vet Army Navy Surplus store.

Oculus Co-Founder Quits as VR Firm Promises a New Rift Headset

Oculus co-founder Brendan Iribe is leaving Facebook. He said in a Facebook post this week that "it's time to recharge, reflect and be creative," adding that this is the first real break he's taken in the last 20 years. According to TechCrunch, however, the departure seems to have been caused by the cancellation of the Oculus Rift 2 headset and many of the same problems that led WhatsApp and Instagram's co-founders to leave as well.

GOP school board member busted for Facebook plot to accuse the 2020 Dem presidential nominee of sexual assault

Two groups have called for the immediate resignation of a South Carolina Republican school board member for writing on Facebook that she intends to falsely accuse the eventual 2020 Democratic presidential nominee of sexually assaulting her.

According to WBTW, Horry County School board member Sherrie Todd, a Republican, took to Facebook to comment on sexual assault accusations levied against now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh by stating she planned to make a false accusation against a Democrat.

The failed morning talk show experiment by Comcast is over now cut her loose.

Megyn Kelly’s Today Hour Is Reportedly Ending

It might be the end of Megyn Kelly Today. A source close to the morning show host tells The Hollywood Reporter her hour of the NBC program could be wrapped up by the end of the season, and that she is currently in talks with network executives about next steps. The meetings between Kelly and higher-ups at NBC reportedly started a few weeks ago, placing them well before her comments about blackface Halloween costumes not being necessarily racist — comments which she has since apologized for, and which prompted NBC News chairman Andy Lack to say at a company town hall today, “There is no other way to put this but I condemn those remarks, there is no place on our air or in this workplace for them. Very unfortunate.”

She was given an opportunity and she failed. Sometimes people cannot be saved from themselves.

NFL fires referee that missed key false start in Chargers-Browns game

For the first time in the Super Bowl era, the NFL has fired a referee in the middle of a season.

Down judge Hugo Cruz was fired for not “maintaining a very high level of performance over a sustained period,” according to Football Zebras. One of Cruz’s more notable missed calls came in a Week 6 Chargers-Browns game, when Cruz failed to call a false start on San Diego’s Russell Okung:

I’ve been a fan of the Chargers for 50 years plus and even though they moved to L.A. I still follow them but even as a fan I called the false start when it happened. How a ref could miss something that blatant is beyond me.

I don’t think the ref should be fired but he should be fined, maybe suspended a couple of games, and be prevented from working any playoff games. I generally don’t believe in the “One mistake and you’re gone” philosophy. Referring is difficult enough and refs will make mistakes; it’s only human. Unless the ref has been making a lot of mistakes or underperforming he should be give the opportunity to learn from his mistakes and make improvements.

FilmStruck Shutting Down in November

WarnerMedia has announced FilmStruck, the streaming service for foreign cinema and classic film, is ceasing operations November 29, 2018. Turner and Warner Bros. Digital Networks issued a joint statement today announcing the end of FilmStruck. The service launched October 19, 2016.

“We’re incredibly proud of the creativity and innovations produced by the talented and dedicated teams who worked on FilmStruck over the past two years,” the statement reads. “While FilmStruck has a very loyal fanbase, it remains largely a niche service. We plan to take key learnings from FilmStruck to help shape future business decisions in the direct-to-consumer space and redirect this investment back into our collective portfolios.”

Fox Business yanks Lou Dobbs episode for neo-Nazi rhetoric against George Soros after synagogue shooting: report

Fox Business Network on Sunday said that it was pulling an episode of Lou Dobbs Tonight after a guest asserted that billionaire George Soros had infiltrated the State Department as a part of a conspiracy to assist a caravan of migrants traveling from Central America.

According to Variety, Fox Business made the decision to take the episode out of rotation due to “social media pushback” after 11 were killed in a synagogue shooting on Saturday. A day before the shooting, a Fox Business guest had blamed Soros, who is Jewish, for the caravan. Slate suggested over the weekend that the shooter may have picked up the conspiracy theory after watching Fox.

Yanking an episode, not the show.

Of course, can you IMAGINE someone on MSNBC speaking out daily so rabidly far to the other side like these guys...

After the woman approached the Garris sisters, you can hear her say, "This is Myers Park, Southpark, (expletive). Why are you up in here hanging out?"

The same woman is then heard saying, "Hi, how are you?"

One of the Garris sisters is heard saying, "I don't know, but you're harassing me."

The woman responds by saying, "Do I need to bring my concealed weapons, too? This is North Carolina, by the way."

With LeBron James off to the Los Angeles Lakers, everyone knew the Cleveland Cavaliers weren't going to be as good this season. But as it turns out, things are off to an even worse start than people could have imagined. After starting 0-6, the team has reportedly fired head coach Ty Lue.

According to reports from The Athletic's Joe Vardon and Shams Charania, general manager Koby Altman made the decision on Sunday morning and has informed both Lue and the team.

Take your meds Kanye enough.

Kanye West designs clothing encouraging black Americans to quit Democratic party

Kanye West has reportedly designed a line of apparel for a conservative campaign encouraging black Americans to quit the Democratic party. Spearheaded by the YouTube star and TV pundit Candace Owens, Blexit is described as “a frequency for those who have released themselves from the political orthodoxy”.

Owens told Page Six: “Blexit is a renaissance and I am blessed to say that this logo, these colours, were created by my dear friend and fellow superhero Kanye West.” West created two designs for the Blexit merchandise range: one spells out Blexit in lettering designed to resemble human forms, the other states, “We free”.

Intel Withdraws Funding For White Supremacist GOP Congressman Steve King

Technology corporation Intel has dropped its support for Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), an eight-term congressman who has been expressing racist beliefs in increasingly undisguised terms.

In an internal email sent last week, Dawn Jones, Intel’s director of policy and external partnerships, told employees that the company would no longer donate to King’s re-election campaign after it looked into his “public statements and determined they conflict with Intel values.” Intel had already donated $2,000 to King’s 2018 campaign.
