Philippines' ex-first lady Imelda Marcos to appeal court's graft ruling

MANILA: The Philippines' anti-corruption court on Friday ordered the arrest of former first lady Imelda Marcos after finding her guilty on seven counts of graft during the two-decade rule of her husband and former dictator, Ferdinand Marcos.

But Marcos, 89, famous for a huge collection of shoes, jewellery and artwork, can avoid arrest and remain free if she appeals the decision and if denied, she can challenge it at the Supreme Court.

Trump supporter ignored warnings to stop flashing Trump 2020 banners at Disney — and now he’s banned for life

An aggressive Trump supporter has been banned from all Disney properties for life after the company gave him a second chance following his efforts to incite a crowd by waving Trump 2020 banners, reports Fox 35.

Dion Cini, a Trump troll who travels the country flying Trump flags, had been warned not to hang flags. But he instead raised a Trump sign while riding on Splash Mountain.

Utah's GOP House members preparing for shift from majority to minority

SALT LAKE CITY — At least three of Utah's four Republican members of the U.S. House are readying themselves to be in the minority in the next Congress after Democrats won control in last week's midterm election.

Reps. Rob Bishop, Chris Stewart and John Curtis all were re-elected on Nov. 6, but the 4th Congressional District race between Rep. Mia Love and her Democratic challenger, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, remains too close to call.

E-cigarette company Juul is quitting social media

E-cigarette startup Juul Labs Inc. said it is shutting down its Facebook and Instagram accounts and curbing its use of other social media in the U.S., part of the company’s response to the Food and Drug Administration’s call for changes to curb underage e-cigarette use.

Sales of Juul’s vaporizers and flavored nicotine liquids have surged over the past year, fueled in part by the product’s popularity among teenagers and children. Its rapid growth was helped by the San Francisco company’s use of social media to advertise its products as well as user-generated posts that glamorized Juul.

UC Berkeley’s Law School to Drop Boalt Name Due to His Anti-Asian Past - AsAm News

Quote:
Boalt School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley is moving to ditch its name which has been connected to a racist past, reports the Recorder

The law school is named for John Henry Boalt who is best known for playing a major role in the passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act, the first law in this country preventing an ethnic group from immigrating.

About 60 percent of Boalt current students and alumni supported dropping the name, while 40 percent argued passionately to retain it.

“I was moved by the many who wrote me expressing their discomfort with honoring someone who expressed vile racism, especially without anything to point to that would justify honoring him as an individual,” said Dean Erwin Chemerinsky who made the decision, reported the Los Angeles Times.

According to the Recorder, some 600 comments were received on this issue by the University. Chermerinsky can only remove the Boalt name from law school clubs and lecturer positions. It is up to the University chancellor to change the name of the building. Boalt never attended the university. The law school was named for him after his wife donated money to construct the law school building in 1906.

Berkeley lecturer and attorney Charles Reichmann floated the idea of a name change in 2017 in an op-ed piece in the San Francisco Chronicle.

I think the relevant question was whether the Berkeley Law School of the 21st century wishes to honor someone whose greatest public legacy was working to exclude Chinese people from the United States, and whose only legacy to the law school was his money,” he said.

Bye, John.

A Fitchburg State player has been indefinitely suspended from his team and barred from campus as a result of a vicious cheap shot he delivered late in Tuesday’s loss to fellow Massachusetts Division III school Nicholls College.

Kewan Platt dropped Nicholls guard Nate Tenaglia with a right elbow to the face better suited for a WWE match than a basketball game.

McVey and Raab quit as May addresses MPs over Brexit deal

The work and pensions secretary, Esther McVey, has become the second senior minister to quit the cabinet, following the Brexit secretary, Dominic Raab, out of the door and throwing Theresa May’s government into turmoil.

McVey, an arch Brexiter who was known to be unhappy with the prime minister’s Brexit plans, said they had failed to “honour the result” of the referendum and had crossed her own red lines for leaving the EU.
