AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas & Cinemark Won’t Play ‘Roma’ in Their Best Picture Showcases

Even though Roma ended up with a total of 10 Oscar nominations this morning, including Best Picture, that’s not a good enough reason for AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas and Cinemark to pack away their grudge with Netflix. Every year, the two movie theater chains host a showcase of all the Best Picture nominees, but since Alfonso Cuarón‘s critically acclaimed Roma is a Netflix movie that didn’t stick to the traditional theatrical release plans, they won’t include the film in their line-up. You know, like a pouting child.

Deadline has word on the Regal Cinemas, Cinemark and AMC Theatres Best Picture showcase banning Roma from the film line-up that helps audiences catch up on the movies up for the most prestigious award in Hollywood. AMC Theaters even issued a cold statement to make sure everyone knew about their decision:

Ousted Ukrainian Leader Yanukovych Found Guilty of Treason

A Kiev court found ex-Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovych guilty in absentia of treason in the wake of the country’s deadly revolution in 2014, sentencing him 13 years in prison.

The conviction relates to a letter Yanukovych allegedly sent to President Vladimir Putin five years ago requesting he send Russian troops to Ukraine to assist his government. Kremlin-backed Yanukovych, who fled to Russia following the demonstrations, has repeatedly professed his innocence.

NC chief justice to resign next month

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina Chief Justice Mark Martin is leaving the state's Supreme Court after 20 years to become a Virginia law school dean.

The resignation means Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper gets to decide who fills the Republican's seat on the court and who the next chief justice will be. Five of the seven current Supreme Court members are registered Democrats.

Meghan McCain says she will quit The View if ‘father figure’ Joe Biden runs for president — but won’t vote for ‘liberal’

On Thursday, former Vice President Joe Biden pushed back against Democrats who are angry that he may have cost the party a House seat by praising an embattled House Republican in a tight Michigan House race.

Biden accepted a standard speaking fee of $200,000 to speak to what was stated to be a “Republican-leaning” crowd and lavished praise on Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI).

Maybe Biden could run for a little while until she quits.

Another Small College Will Close

Green Mountain College announced Wednesday that it will close at the end of the spring semester.

The college, a small private institution in Vermont, has a 185-year history and is known for its environmental programs. But the college's announcement said it couldn't attract enough students or a partner to maintain operations in a way that served students. Closure is expected after the end of this semester.

Malaysia has been stripped of hosting the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships for refusing to let Israelis compete, says the International Paralympic Committee.

Malaysia, which is a majority Muslim country, banned the athletes because of what Kuala Lumpur sees as Israel's poor treatment of Palestinians.

UN court judge quits The Hague citing political interference from Turkey, U.S.

A senior judge resigned from one of the UN’s international courts in The Hague on Monday citing “shocking” political interference from the United States and Turkey, the Guardian reported.

German judge Christoph Flügge claimed Ankara had earlier made “baseless” allegations to end the tenure of a Turkish judge sitting on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals UN court, in a move the UN turned a blind eye to.

Apple bans Facebook from tech tools for tracking teen browsing habits

Apple Inc said on Wednesday it had banned Facebook Inc from a program designed to let businesses control iPhones used by their employees, saying the social networking company had improperly used it to track the web-browsing habits of teenagers.

Apple offers what are known as certificates that let businesses have deep controls over iPhones, with the potential to remotely install apps, monitor app usage and access, and delete data owned by a business on an iPhone. Apple designed the program for organizations whose staff use iPhones for official duties, when privacy needs are different from phones for personal use.

Feds indict powerful Philly union boss, councilman, others

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A powerful union boss with a tight grip on construction jobs in the Philadelphia region and outsized influence in city and state politics has been indicted in alleged schemes to embezzle more than $600,000 and have a councilman on the union payroll do his bidding at City Hall.

Johnny “Doc” Dougherty has steered tens of millions of dollars to political candidates in Pennsylvania, most of them Democrats, during his 25-year tenure running the electricians union. He helped get Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney elected to office in 2015, the same year his brother, Kevin Dougherty, won a seat on the state Supreme Court.

If he's guilty, slam the jail door hard when they lock him up.

Apparently some singer tattooed barbecue grill on her hand.

She was trying for seven rings.

It did not look like she had seven fingers.

Bye.

Vice Media to Axe 10% of Staff, Laying Off About 250 Employees, Amid Revenue Slowdown

Vice Media CEO Nancy Dubuc has set plans to lay off 10% of the company’s employees — resulting in the elimination of 250 jobs across all departments — as it looks to slash costs amid a revenue slowdown.

The cuts aren’t surprising: Brooklyn-based Vice last fall instituted a hiring freeze and was hoping to avoid layoffs by winnowing down its headcount through attrition. With the restructuring, Dubuc is de-emphasizing focus on Vice’s web properties and is looking to bulk up efforts in film, TV production and branded content centered on its millennial-skewing audience and counter-cultural ethos.

I could get upset that when I was trying to make a living in the movie business, fewer and fewer entities were funding productions, and the ones that did liked it best when all the above the line people were under 25. That youth obsession never went away, but I've never seen so much demand for long form, so the competition from the 22 year old bearded rock stars is less.

I could get upset, but (as they say) that's showbiz.

Report: ESPN fires Baseball Tonight and college football host Adnan Virk

One of ESPN’s rising stars is no longer with the company, and it appears he did not depart under happy circumstances.

ESPN fired Baseball Tonight and radio host Adnan Virk after the company felt that he failed to fully cooperate with an internal investigation into an accusation that he had leaked confidential information about the company to the media, the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reports.

I take it the drift of it is you were 26 years old at the time.

That seems raw. :|

Demi Lovato Deletes Twitter After Comments About 21 Savage Spark Backlash

Demi Lovato's Twitter has gone dark.

The "Confident" singer sparked some ire on Sunday night during the 2019 Super Bowl when she made a comment about the rapper 21 Savage. 21 Savage, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested on Sunday morning by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) for reportedly overstaying his visa. He faces a possibility of deportation. He was reportedly born on the island of Dominica, which was a British colony.
