Wisconsin Dem governor removes 82 Scott Walker appointees added during lame-duck session

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) on Friday removed 82 appointments made by his predecessor, Gov. Scott Walker (R), during last year's lame-duck legislative session.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Evers's decision comes just a day after Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess invalidated the confirmation of Walker's appointments during a December overnight session.

Lakers officially eliminated from NBA postseason contention by D'Angelo Russell and the Nets

It’s official: the Los Angeles Lakers have been eliminated from postseason contention and the NBA playoffs will be without LeBron James for the first time since 2005.

The Lakers lost to the Brooklyn Nets by a score of 111-106 on Friday, their 10th loss in their last 11 games and one that mathematically eliminated the team from the playoffs.

The Lakers got too big for their short floppy britches, after it became a matter of course that they would win the NBA every year, with the accompanying annual riot in L.A.. It got really out of hand. Most of us are not bothered by their catastrophic fall. Also, the hype about LeBron James sounded more like the Second Coming. It rapidly got almost as old as he is.

Good on the Nets for administering the coup de grace.

NYPD arrest man who graffitied #LoveTrump in subway station

New York City police have arrested a man who repeatedly graffitied #LoveTrump in a Brooklyn subway station.

Transit Chief Edward Delatorre said during a council meeting Tuesday that police had a wall built inside the station, according to the New York Daily News. The police hid behind the wall and caught the man as he returned to again spray graffiti inside the station.

Guggenheim Museum will no longer accept gifts from Sackler family, makers of opioid OxyContin

Despite having their name on the museum's education center, the Guggenheim said it will no longer be accepting gifts from the Sackler family, according to a statement given to ABC News on Saturday. The Sacklers own Purdue Pharma, the makers of the powerful and addictive painkiller OxyContin.

The rejection of the wealthy pharmaceutical name isn't the biggest problem facing the Sacklers -- the company is reportedly exploring bankruptcy as a way to protect itself against million-dollar lawsuits -- but it is a shot at the societal standing of the billionaire family.

University of Georgia fraternity expels four of its members for racist video.

Quote:
The Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity said it has expelled four members at a chapter at the University of Georgia after video surfaced appearing to show men using a racial slur about black people and talking about picking cotton.

"Tau Kappa Epsilon is disgusted, appalled and angered by the remarks shown in a video of four expelled members," the national fraternity said in a statement. “TKE will not tolerate any actions such as these that would be defined as racist, discriminatory and/or offensive.”

Tau Kappa Epsilon in a memo to the Xi-Lambda chapter dated Friday said it was temporarily suspended effective immediately.

The national fraternity spokesman said temporary suspension is standard procedure while an investigation is under way, and it “ceases all actions of the chapter without prior authorization from our office temporarily."

Sting operation catches One Nation seeking funds from US pro-gun groups

New York: An elaborate sting operation has revealed that senior One Nation figures, including Pauline Hanson's chief-of-staff, sought millions of dollars in donations from the US pro-gun lobby to help them water down Australia's gun control laws.

A journalist from news network Al Jazeera, posing as the head of a fake Australian gun lobby group, secretly filmed Hanson's top adviser James Ashby and One Nation's Queensland leader Steve Dickson during a visit to Washington DC last year.

Giants CEO Larry Baer suspended three months by MLB after incident with wife

San Francisco Giants president and CEO Larry Baer has been suspended without pay through July 1 following Major League Baseball's investigation into a physical incident between Baer and his wife.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced the suspension in a news release Tuesday, explaining that after reviewing the results of the investigation, he found that Baer's conduct was "unacceptable ... and warrants discipline." Baer will be suspended for more than three months and "undergo an evaluation by an expert to determine an appropriate treatment and counseling plan," according to the league.

Avenatti always did look a bit like L.A.'s version of drumpf, with the relentless self-promotion and tendency toward making threats. That's probably why they never could stand each other. Not sure I'd hire a lawyer whose web site is mostly pictures of himself driving race cars.

It's moot now anyway, since he's disbarred.

Linda McMahon to resign as head of Small Business Administration

Linda McMahon, head of the Small Business Administration and the presumed leading contender to replace Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, plans to step down from her role and enter the private sector, Politico reports.

Why now: According to Politico, one source familiar with the matter said McMahon plans to help raise funds for President Trump's 2020 re-election campaign. She is reportedly expected to be at the president's private Mar-a-Lago club this weekend.

Republican State Rep. David Stringer (R) suddenly resigned Wednesday when the Arizona Republic published a report on him when, in September 1983, he was arrested for paying two under the age of 15, boys $10 for sex. One of the boys had a developmental disability. One of the boys said he went to Stringer's apartment at least 10 times to perform oral or penetrated sex.

Besides being a pedophile he's a racist bigot who last year said "‘there aren’t enough white kids to go around’ in Arizona public schools...”

Quote:
The Arizona House Ethics Committee on Friday released shocking documents from an investigation into former Republican Rep. David Stringer, who abruptly resigned on Wednesday.

The Arizona Republic reports the documents include a 1983 police report from Maryland.

“The police report states police arrested Stringer in September 1983, after a boy told officers that Stringer had met him and a friend in a park a year earlier, and asked them to come back to his apartment to have ‘some sex,'” the Republic reported. “Stringer paid the boys $10 after he performed oral sex on them, and they performed the same act on him, the police report states.”“One of the boys told police he had been back to see Stringer at least 10 times to perform oral sex or penetrative sex,” the Republican noted.
Raw Story

Just a note about Stinger. According to his Wikipedia page, he was born in either 1947 or 1948 which would make him about 36 or 37 at the time of his arrest for sex with an underage child. This wasn't some teenager who made a mistake as a young man but a man in his middle 30s. No doubt he'll claim he's the victim because that's what republicans do.

Russia to Ban Major VPN Providers Who Don’t Comply With the Blacklist

Russia’s communications regulator agency “Roskomnadzor” has sent an ultimatum to ten VPN service providers, asking them to comply with the domain “blacklist” (FGIS database) that is maintained by the national IT system registry. If they don’t comply with this requirement within a month’s time, they will get banned in the country, as Roskomnadzor will practically restrict access to their services by making them news entries to the FGIS. The VPN providers that received the relevant notifications are NordVPN, Hide My Ass!, Hola VPN, OpenVPN, VyprVPN, ExpressVPN, TorGuard, IPVanish, Kaspersky Secure Connection, and VPN Unlimited.

As the notice writes (translated): “In accordance with paragraph 5 of Article 15.8 of the Federal Law No. 149-FZ of 27.07.2006 “On Information Technology and on Protection of Information” hereby we are informing you about the necessity to get connected to the Federal state informational system of the blocked informational sources and networks within thirty working days from the receipt …in case of firmware owner’s failure to fulfill the legal obligations, the access to this firmware is to be blocked by the Federal Service for Supervision in Sphere of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media on the whole territory of the Russian Federation.”

Bianna Golodryga out at 'CBS This Morning' and leaving network, sources say

Bianna Golodryga, who joined “CBS This Morning” as a co-anchor less than six months ago, is leaving the morning program, two sources familiar with the matter told HuffPost.

Golodryga has been moved off the program by the new president of CBS News, Susan Zirinsky. Zirinsky felt that the show had too many anchors (it currently has four: Norah O’Donnell, Gayle King, John Dickerson and Golodryga), according to the sources, who requested anonymity to freely discuss network business.

Regulators found a major GOP donor’s alleged misconduct was covered up in humiliating blow for Republicans

When allegations emerged that Steve Wynn, a major GOP donor and finance chair of the Republican National Committee, was guilty of sexual misconduct toward employees, the party found itself in a pressing bind. Republicans had just recently fueled a media firestorm calling for Democrats to return donations from Harvey Weinstein, who was facing a deluge of sexual misconduct allegations in a saga that spurred the #MeToo movement — and they were facing calls to do the same for Wynn.

But instead of disowning Wynn’s contributions, which amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars, Republicans settled for accepting his resignation from the RNC. Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel deferred the question of whether the RNC should return his donations until after regulators completely investigations of him and his company.

The suspect in the fatal shooting of Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle was captured Tuesday afternoon just hours after the Los Angeles police chief stared into a bank of TV news cameras and asked the alleged killer to give up.

The suspect, Eric Holder, 29, was arrested in the L.A. suburb of Bellflower after police spotted him there and detained him without incident, officials said.

Yeah, he just had to be somebody named "Eric Holder". It's a common last name and all you have to do is look at the age of the suspect to know he's not the more famous guy by the same name.

Trump is not an entirely totally uncommon last name in the U.S.; I'm just waiting for a different Don Trump to be arrested for something, just so I can chortle. :D

I'm sure it won't stop some idiots from confusing the two. Probably the same people who voted for "Al Green" because they thought he was the same guy as a different, famous musician.
