City ousting Blue Cross Arena operator SMG

CIty of Rochester officials notified longtime Blue Cross Arena operator SMG on Friday that they are being ousted from the downtown facility, effective two weeks from today.

"We are entering into negotiations with SMG with an eye toward having a mutually agreed-upon termination of their contract," said city Corporation Counsel Timothy Curtin, saying the operator had "performed below expectations, and it is our view we have to change paths."

Man Arrested for Threatening to Murder Family of FCC Chairman

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A California man was arrested today in Los Angeles on charges of threatening to kill the family of Ajit Pai, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, for Pai’s role in repealing regulations relating to net neutrality.

According to court documents, on or about Dec. 19 and 20, 2017, Markara Man, 33, of Norwalk, allegedly sent three emails to Chairman Pai’s email accounts. The first email accused Chairman Pai of being responsible for a child who allegedly had committed suicide because of the repeal of net neutrality regulations. The second email listed three locations in or around Arlington, and threatened to kill the Chairman’s family members. The third email had no message in its body, but included an image depicting Chairman Pai and, in the foreground and slightly out of focus, a framed photograph of Chairman Pai and his family. The FBI traced the emails to Man’s residence in Norwalk, California, and when initially confronted in May 2018, Man admitted to the FBI that he sent the email threatening Chairman Pai’s family because he was “angry” about the repeal of the net neutrality regulations and wanted to “scare” Chairman Pai.

Horry Telephone Loses Nexstar's WBTW in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in Retrans Spat

Ahead of the July 4 holiday, Horry Telephone Cooperative customers in the Myrtle Beach, S.C., area lost access to Nexstar-owned CBS affiliate station WBTW on the pay-TV provider's lineup as HTC and Nexstar couldn't agree on a new retransmission-consent agreement.

HTC, supported by the American Cable Association, said Nexstar sought a "ridiculous 163% monthly rate hike," as ACA president Matthew Polka said in a statement. HTC said on its web site that customers in Georgetown County could watch CBS programming on other local channels or via an over the air antenna. Live news and weather are available by the station's web site www.wbtw.com, HTC said.

https://www.citylab.com/life/2018/07/wi ... ub/563186/

good...

My sister and her husband belong to a yacht club and I've gone to some of their events with them. My impression of the yacht club is it's like a country club in that it's primary purpose is to "network" for business purposes. Unless millennials are going to start golfing and spending a $100 a round then the country club becomes a temporary refuge for their entertainment needs. Given that membership in a country club is expensive, only those who are making $100K plus would be able to afford it and those with college debt won't be able to afford it. In the long run, more country clubs will close because the cost of maintaining a golf course will be too expensive to maintain with a shrinking high-income population with disposable income.
