This story is amusing from all sides. Based on what Trump asked him to do ... and his response.

James O'Keefe says Trump asked him to go on birther-linked mission ... d=46913739

Donald Trump in 2013 asked James O'Keefe, the controversial conservative filmmaker, if he could "get inside" Columbia University and obtain President Obama's sealed college records, according to a passage in O'Keefe's forthcoming book, a copy of which was reviewed by CNN.

O'Keefe said he explained to Trump that the request did not fall into his "line of work," and that he considered himself and his colleagues to be journalists, not "private eyes."

So, Trump, whose own credentials are in doubt, wanted O'Keefe to somehow ... what? ... sneak into, break into ... find what Columbia was "hiding" about Obama? He says Obama may have been "pretending" to be foreign in his admissions application. Well, if it was "pretense" doesn't that mean he knew his own birtherism was a lie? But whatever -- he didn't lie in his application, nor is Columbia lying about his academic record.

But what I find more funny is O'Keefe's refusal. "I'm a journalist, I don't do that!" Yeah, James, because "real journalists" trespass into other peoples' offices to commit acts of sabotage and get arrested for it, set up a sexual seduction lair so they can film somebody in it, and deceptively edit videos of organizations like Planned Parenthood or ACORN to make them appear to be saying things that are untrue.

Of course, it's his book, so of course, he'll pretend bullshit he has something called integrity.

BS it is, as anyone who understands the hallowed traditions of American yellow journalism already knows.

The only good thing about this misbegotten presidency is the number of really juicy tell-all books it's guaranteed to create. We'll be in gossip for years, and as Woody Allen once had a character say, gossip is the new pornography.

"Our democratic institutions... seem to have been upended by frat-boy billionaires from California," remarked Canadian politician Charlie Angus. (BBC, 11/27/18)
