All drumpf knows about deforestation is that his rich buddies clearcut old growth and make lots of money, so it's got to be good.

That Pacific thing... huh? Maybe in his 4th-grade mind he's thinking of storm water. Someone in his cabinet might have read an article about storm water retention once, though he'd be against it. I would imagine he thinks a spreading basin is a new type of sex toy.

deforestation is WHY these fires are so big and last indefinitely. these logging corps, aka kuckbros, have
gone around the earth at least 3x cutting down, 1st the most Enormous trees back in the 20's-30's.
then again they came thru and took out the next largest, leaving mostly what was left by the time
raygun set the clear cutting in full motion. each time they came thru and cut and took, what filled
in after was..crap. the typical scrub oak seen in Oregon, all choked in and fully congesting any area
now open.
then, that shit being so congested began to grow lichen fungus which then spread to any and all conifers.
soon, the entire woodland was filled with dying diseased scrub oak becoming dead fall.
after a few decades of this dead fall..the ground is covered in shit. the same shit which keeps these
fires going for months.
if not for the dead fall these fires could be put out in a matter of days, weeks.
the crap lying all over the ground, fallen forest diseased growth, keeps these fires going.

when the settlers wrote their journals, they always spoke of fires or smoke, either seeing them
each nite or camping where there was "no smoke". lightning caused fires which went out easily
since they were only burning the tops of healthy trees vs the dead shit all over the ground that came
after the corps began cutting.

these fires rage like this because of corp clear cutting. we pay for these fires becuz wallst wanted $$
and didnt GAF about the land or the people living on it.

You're right, of course. You get it.

This is exactly what happens. Fires used to run through the underbrush and actually help the forest function. They were part of the ecology. Now, for the reasons rainwater mentions, the fires crown and take everything. You get the 300 foot flames like the ones in the pictures from Mendocino. They leave black moonscape.

And indeed there is very little old growth left. It's true that the forest grows back, but not as a naturally functioning and balanced forest. The Koch Bros thing is basically ecocide.

We wouldn't be having this discussion if one of the worst corporate assholes hadn't been fraudulently placed in the country's highest office, so everyone would hang on every deranged thought tweeted from his undoubtedly very long sessions on the crapper.

oh no, we'd be having this discussion irregardless of this maroon in the WH. its too far gone to
Not be having it seeing it talking about it. groper is The Distraction From Talking about it.

when fires ran thru the underbrush in the forest, they ran thru cleaning up the deadfall
and within not too far they ran out of deadfall and went out since the conifers were green moist
and withstood small ground fires of old deadfall which lightning set afire.

once the forests were diseased from secondary succession crap moving in and taking over along
with the deadfall, then you got a clusterfuck of burnable material.
conifer forests on their own were not major burnable masses since they didnt leave much deadfall.
lightning strikes did not cause major fires.

until 75years later white man drove his fucking machines in to clearcut the forests down to the dirt.
now lightning will be the cause of burning everything up. not fucking it up, burning it up.

3 Struck by Lightning in NYC Amid Raging Thunderstorms: NYPD

Three people were struck by lightning when thunderstorms roared through the tri-state Tuesday evening, two of them while playing soccer at a Queens park, police say.

Two men, ages 30 and 42, were playing soccer in Flushing Meadows Park in Corona when they were hit around 7:30 p.m., according to police. They have been taken to Elmhurst Hospital. A third man, 33, was struck near Baisley Boulevard and 155th Street in South Jamaica, Queens, and was taken to Jamaica Hospital; his condition wasn't immediately clear but he's expected to survive.

Cars swept away by floodwaters at New Jersey car dealership

LITTLE FALLS, New Jersey (WABC) -- Like a water edition of destruction derby, cars in New Jersey were swept away by heavy flooding during Saturday's strong storms.

The Chrysler Jeep Dodge Dealership of Little Falls is in crisis, after car after car floated to its demise.

Democratic National Committee Backtracks On Its Ban Of Fossil Fuel Donations

The Democratic National Committee passed a resolution Friday afternoon that activists say effectively reverses a ban on fossil fuel company donations.

The resolution introduced by DNC Chair Tom Perez states that the party “support[s] fossil fuel workers” and will accept donations from “employers’ political action committees.” It was approved by a 30-2 vote just two months after the committee adopted another resolution prohibiting donations from fossil fuel companies by a unanimous vote.

With all the fire and fury in the west, the rain in the east goes unnoticed. It's been epic. Same cause... displaced jet stream.

The situation with sea temperatures in the East Pacific is no longer trivial. It's either an el nino precursor, or something's gone very, very wrong.

Clearcutting was the dumbest idea that humans ever had. Even dumber than atomic bombs.

Water over the FDR drive and Henry Hudson Parkway last Saturday in NYC. Central Park measured 3" in two hours. Seemed to rain hardest in the middle of Manhattan. The flooded section of FDR that the Weather Channel shows is in the 70s-80s. I've been across that pedestrian bridge hundreds of times.

Manhattan is gonna sink. Wall Streeters who refuse to let us do something about the climate are going to have to come to work in water taxis.

N.J. weather update: Nearly 8 inches of rain pounds N.J., flooding roads, creating a waterspout

For the second time in three days, a seemingly endless wave of torrential rain is pounding parts of New Jersey on Monday, flooding streets and houses, stranding drivers and spawning a waterspout near Long Beach Island.

The hardest-hit area of the state during the past few hours has been Monmouth and Ocean counties, where as much as 5 inches of rain had fallen in several towns as of noon and at least one place -- Brick Township -- was drenched by nearly 8 inches. That’s almost two month's worth of rain in just a few hours.

It's predicted to keep raining, and if a hurricane gets into the mix, this could be catastrophic.

Part of our problem this year is that the pattern is not only abnormal but persistent. It's been in place all summer and shows no sign of budging. We have another ridge along the Pacific Coast. The last one of those lasted 3 years. It was caused by Arctic ice melt. The Arctic has since gotten much worse, so maybe we're looking at a new normal where the California Current has less effect on the weather. If that is the case, the entire North American continent is in very big trouble.

Al Gore: Trump has had 'less of an impact on environment so far than I feared'

Former Vice President Al Gore said Monday that President Trump has not damaged the environment during his first 18 months in office as badly as he feared.

Gore, a Nobel Peace Prize winner for his anti-climate change efforts, told The Associated Press that Trump's administration has, however, done "some damage" by undoing a slew of environmental regulations, including many put in place by the Obama administration.

A FEDERAL JUDGE REINSTATES THE CLEAN WATER RULE FOR 26 STATES

A federal judge issued a nationwide injunction Thursday on the Trump administration's order delaying the Clean Water Rule, making the Obama-era regulation applicable in the 26 states that have not blocked it, E&E News reports.

The United States District Court in South Carolina found that the Environmental Protection Agency had violated rule-making procedures in delaying the regulation, also known as the Waters of the U.S. rule, which protects wetlands and tributaries under the Clean Water Act. Previously, a federal judge ruled in favor of states seeking to get out of these regulations.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke acknowledges role of climate change in wildfires

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke suggested that climate change may have a role in the recent wildfires that have ravaged California. When asked by CBS News reporter Weijia Jiang whether he accepted that climate change was part of the problem, Zinke said "of course." He also acknowledged that "temperatures are rising."

However, Zinke also reiterated an argument that he made earlier this week, blaming environmental groups for preventing dead trees from being cleared due to their opposition to the logging industry.

Poor forest management puts the gas in the tank.

You still can't drive off a cliff unless you start the car.

Arctic ice melt started the car.

Let's deal with drump's ridiculous tweet. I try to ignore his twitter diarrhea, but since no one else does:

1. Too many trees:

He must have gotten it third hand from the environmental poobah in DC that forests became too overgrown. That they did. Were it that simple, the logging industry would save the planet. Thinning forests, along with prescribed burning of underbrush, often helps them return to a natural state. There, fire is expected, as part of the ecology. It does not crown and destroy the whole forest.

But our forests are a mess. They log off all the native vegetation and let all manner of shit grow back in. You see it on the satellite pictures. They clear-cut small tracts, one at a time. You see these brown patches all over the west.

2. Diverting water to the Pacific

Someone's been listening to the Central Valley growers too long. They're still all on about the Snail Darter thing and not being able to pump the whole Sacramento Delta system dry. Truth is, no water is deliberately wasted in California. There are phenomena called floods, and the excess flows into what drumpf should be used to in New York, namely rivers. Yes, rivers run to the sea. It is what they do. That is in the essence of riverness. Now, California could do a better job of storm water retention in the arid south, but that's not what he was thinking. (Thinking being a relative term here, for want of a better word.)

It's irrelevant anyway, because fire fighters have all the water they need. This isn't an urban fire where the pressure fails. There is no pressure to fail. You don't get city pipes in the woods.

Water is not the problem. Leaders who let billionaires have their way with the planet are the problem.

this is one of the stupidest comments ive ever read. he is implying logging Corps aka kuckbros
will remove dead trees. as tho its a favor.

they cant use the dead trees, they cant sell them cant cut them up, they have NO REASON
to remove "dead trees from being cleared".
logging corps only cut down live trees. they bulldoze the dead shit into piles they burn
leaving Nothing but dirt behind.

does he think timber corps come in to clean up their messes? to clean up forest floors?
dream on you incompetent white punk Asshole. they leave dirt. you know what dirt is right? smh.

Lightning strike causes damage to Nina Pineda's New Jersey home

NORWOOD, New Jersey (WABC) -- When you spend a career chronicling other people's misfortunes, you never think it will happen to you.

On Friday night, 7 on your Side's Nina Pineda jumped on Facebook to report her own storm damage - after a lightning bolt sliced down a giant tree, energizing the gas line leading to her house.

Dead trees are too eaten out to be useful for wood. The forest service could indeed take the dead trees out, but if there's a commercial use for them I don't know it. Sam might.

Here we have an advantage of a social-democratic state. The government would take out the dead trees, on our dime, and we'd all be better off for it. The people who didn't get vaporized in the fire tornado (an EF3, biggest ever in CA) would be much better off for it.

I think, in fact, that they pried loose money to do that in the national forest near Tahoe once, but I could very well be wrong.

Then there's the Hawaiian volcano. The subsidence events at the peak stopped, as did the lava flow from Fissure 8. It's been a couple of weeks now. No one knows if it's permanent.

you could take out a dead tree here and there 50years ago.
then it fast became dead forests en total, not just a tree here a tree there.

logging corps seek out the remaining healthy trees, ONLY. around the earth thats why they do.
you got a few acres of healthy conifers?...they want them, they will get them.

rio tinto somehow got, paid money, to cut in Apache national forest, one of the last strongholds of conifers.
it will soon be mojave desert from the pacific to TX.

i wonder if the earth will spin when the weightlessness from lack of big trees reaches a point.

8.2-magnitude earthquake strikes in South Pacific off Fiji

(CNN) A massive 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, roughly 200 miles off Fiji and almost the same distance from Tonga, according to the preliminary report from the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake struck just after midday Sunday and was almost 560 kilometers deep, the USGS said.

At least 14 injured in storm at Backstreet Boys Oklahoma concert

THACKERSVILLE, Okla. (AP) — At least 14 people have been injured and transported to hospitals after trusses holding up the entrance to a resort where the Backstreet Boys were set to begin a concert in Oklahoma collapsed.

WinStar World Casino and Resort says in a statement posted on Twitter Saturday that the resort began an evacuation at about 5 p.m. when lightning was within four miles of the casino.

The weight is still there. It's been rearranged, but the planet and the oceans vastly outweigh it. Mass and energy are both conserved in physics, though sometimes like in nuclear fission you can change their appearance by releasing the intrinsic bonding energy in nuclei. Maybe a little leaks off into space, but the dense meteorites coming from space more than offset it. They have pieces of Mars in the natural history museum. Nobody went and got them... yet.

A bigger problem concerns whether the mass is part of the living biome or dead stuff that just sits there. We seem to be awfully good at converting that first thing into that second one.

fuck this image shit, nothing will print out.
this however, shows what clear cutting does. all the tiny spindly 8" round toothpicks that take over
when the logging fuckers have taken ALL the big trees, ALL OF THEM.
those spindles dont stand a chance, not a Chance in Hell of EVER growing more than this toothpick shit.

welcome to BC. this land will Never see conifers again, not for 1000years.
