Maybe he can figure out how to find advertisers for something besides old people's drugs, catheters, walk-in bathtubs, and Medicare supplements.

Trump pick to lead climate panel said environmentalist arguments are ‘just like demonization of Jews under Hitler’

The oil-financed pick to lead Donald Trump’s climate change panel has said some interesting things on TV in the past — including one comparison between environmentalists and Nazis.

Vox reported that physicist, climate change denier and national security council senior director William Happer has conflated anti-carbon dioxide arguments to Nazism multiple times.

Union leader says Green New Deal would make infrastructure bill ‘absolutely impossible’

The president of one of the largest construction unions in the country warned the Green New Deal will make it “absolutely impossible” for lawmakers to pass an infrastructure bill.

“The things that are in the Green New Deal should be dealt with [by the] Climate Change Committee and not tied to infrastructure,” Terry O’Sullivan, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), told Hill.TV’s Buck Sexton and Jamal Simmons.

If infrastructure has to suffer, so be it. As it is now there is none, GOP wont do it unless they can put the money to their own pockets.

Dems will look at this and there is no good answer but the answer has to be SAVE the environment NO MATTER WHAT

The Green New Deal is proposing that we build infrastructure. It's just a question of what kind.

New wind farms are new infrastructure. New high speed rail is new infrastructure. New solar plants are new infrastructure.

It is true it is NOT proposing building new coal plants, new offshore oil rigs, or new toxic waste dumps. Hence "Green".

BTW, while it is also not proposing the building/maintenance of other kinds of infrastructure like new roads, highways, bridges, etc. that should be done in a separate bill.

Nothing is stopping the gov't from doing both. Well, limited funds, of course, but then we need to have a revenue discussion.

Not quite earth news.

Quote:
Now's your chance to name a moon, but don't get your hopes up — Moony McMoonFace is not in the running. Researchers at the Carnegie Institution for Science have implemented some pretty strict rules for their contest asking for the public's help in naming Jupiter's newly discovered moons.

Carnegie scientists first announced the accidental discovery of 12 moons orbiting Jupiter in July 2018. A team of astronomers was looking for a possible "Planet X" or "Planet 9" beyond the orbit of Pluto when the moons were found. Carnegie's Scott Sheppard said 11 of the outer moons are "normal," but one is an "oddball." The discovery brought Jupiter's total number of moons to 79 — the most of any planet in our Solar System. It's largest and most famous moons are named Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.

The oddball moon shall be called Lumpy.

Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Dopey, Bashful, and Sneezy are good normal moon names.

We need four more names. Hurry, think of four more names.

I noticed they want 12 names. If we don't get them 12 names quick I know of rival bunch who will want to name them if they hear about this. Here are the names they'll want to use:

"Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him."

Hey Trump look no climate change issues here.

Blizzard dumps 6 to 10 inches of snow across the Omaha metro area

Initial snowfall reports, after a blizzard moved east out of Nebraska late Saturday, indicated that 6 to 10 inches of new snow had fallen in the Omaha metro area.

Some of the snow totals reported to the National Weather Service as the storm was still winding down included 6 inches at Blair; 6.5 inches northwest of Glenwood, Iowa; 7 inches at Schuyler; 8 inches south of Bennington; 8.8 inches northeast of Chalco; 9.5 inches southwest of Offutt Air Force Base and also at a location northeast of Gretna.

Highest gust in Manhattan is something like 56 MPH. Ditto in Richmond, bit higher at the airports in Queens.

We all know what happens in Manhattan when wind gets funneled by buildings. Corners get really interesting. I had a nice one in Lower Manhattan once when I was crossing the street, the wind whooshed, and I found myself back by the curb. Still standing, but back where I'd come from.

This time it's closed 72nd at 5th after the area's many sidewalk sheds (that's a different post) started coming apart and becoming frisbees. Probably they get pushed up between buildings, then when they hit the park, down they come. Not safe.

Wouldn't be all that great for windows either.

How House Democrats can finally stymie Trump’s relentless assault on science

Douglas Costle, who helped create the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and then ran it during Jimmy Carter’s administration, died recently at the age of 79. If the Trump administration has its way, the agency as we know it will die along with him.

“Clean air is not an aesthetic luxury,” Costle said when he took the job as EPA administrator. “It is a public health necessity.”

The Senate has confirmed a former coal lobbyist to lead the EPA

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate on Thursday confirmed former coal industry lobbyist Andrew Wheeler to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, despite concerns by Democrats and one Republican about regulatory rollbacks he's made in eight months as the agency's acting chief.

Senators voted 52-47 to confirm Wheeler, who was nominated by President Donald Trump after former administrator Scott Pruitt resigned last year amid a series of ethics allegations.

Senate Democrats introduce 'Green New Deal' alternative

Senate Democrats introduced a joint resolution Thursday meant to unify the party around a common climate change plan as Republicans seek to rip the party over the "Green New Deal."

The concise nine-line resolution introduced by Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), ranking member on the Senate Energy and Public Works Committee, commits Democrats to acknowledging climate change is happening, that it’s human caused and that something must be done.

Next up is the easily documented history of the oil companies covering up, quietly buying up alternative energy patents, and conducting lobbying to avoid expensive regulations.

Exxon Knew about Climate Change almost 40 years ago--

A new investigation shows the oil company understood the science before it became a public issue and spent millions to promote misinformation.

By Shannon Hall on October 26, 2015 Véalo en español

Exxon was aware of climate change, as early as 1977, 11 years before it became a public issue, according to a recent investigation from InsideClimate News. This knowledge did not prevent the company (now ExxonMobil and the world’s largest oil and gas company) from spending decades refusing to publicly acknowledge climate change and even promoting climate misinformation—an approach many have likened to the lies spread by the tobacco industry regarding the health risks of smoking. Both industries were conscious that their products wouldn’t stay profitable once the world understood the risks, so much so that they used the same consultants to develop strategies on how to communicate with the public.

Experts, however, aren’t terribly surprised. “It’s never been remotely plausible that they did not understand the science,” ...

But experts are still piecing together Exxon’s misconception puzzle. Last summer the Union of Concerned Scientists released a complementary investigation to the one by InsideClimate News, known as the Climate Deception Dossiers (pdf). “We included a memo of a coalition of fossil-fuel companies where they pledge basically to launch a big communications effort to sow doubt,” says union president Kenneth Kimmel. “There’s even a quote in it that says something like ‘Victory will be achieved when the average person is uncertain about climate science.’ So it’s pretty stark.”

Since then, Exxon has spent more than $30 million on think tanks that promote climate denial, according to Greenpeace. Although experts will never be able to quantify the damage Exxon’s misinformation has caused, “one thing for certain is we’ve lost a lot of ground,” Kimmell says. Half of the greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere were released after 1988. “I have to think if the fossil-fuel companies had been upfront about this and had been part of the solution instead of the problem, we would have made a lot of progress [today] instead of doubling our greenhouse gas emissions.”

Experts agree that the damage is huge, which is why they are likening Exxon’s deception to the lies spread by the tobacco industry. “I think there are a lot of parallels,” Kimmell says. Both sowed doubt about the science for their own means, and both worked with the same consultants to help develop a communications strategy. He notes, however, that the two diverge in the type of harm done. Tobacco companies threatened human health, but the oil companies threatened the planet’s health.
strategy = LIES

Venus and Jupiter May Meddle With Earth’s Orbit and Climate

Quote:
In 405,000-year cycles, the tug of nearby planets causes hotter summers, colder winters and drier droughts on our home planet

............But the big question for most people is: Where are we currently on the Venus-Jupiter climate cycle and could their neighborly tug explain some of the changes in our climate? In a press release, Kent says we’re likely in the middle of the cycle when Earth’s orbit is almost circular. This means the swing is not causing climate disruptions. It’s most likely that any changes we are experiencing comes from outsized human input in the release of greenhouse gasses..........
