The general progression of knowledge concerning the evolution of life on Earth has been to keep pushing it farther back in time. I think this is because, as you said, there are so many ways to date things now.

the dating of things comes after the finding, the seeing, of them.
the ability to see below the jungle growth--which is barely tree in many places, just more vegetation
which is making it all "jungle" again-- the ability to see below the surface of the jungle cover, waters, oceans,
shorelines where they are finding so many remains of towns and villages.
just as tho some kind of 2leg humans were living there!!

and somehow the pines came back. they will return again once human stops fucking with the earth.
but that will take another 1000years for conifers to return and the Ogallala aquifer to refill.

Cave art suggests Neandertals were ancient humans’ mental equals --
Newly dated rock drawings and shell ornaments predate Homo sapiens in Europe by at least 20,000 years--
By Bruce Bower 2:12pm, February 22, 2018

If the new dates for the Spanish cave art are confirmed, they could indicate that Neandertals and H. sapiens exchanged artistic traditions earlier than previously thought, says paleoanthropologist Chris Stringer of the Natural History Museum in London, who was not involved in the studies. Members of both species may have reached western Asia and intermingled during rainy periods between 244,000 and 190,000 years ago, Stringer proposes (SN: 2/17/18, p. 6).

Climate Change is a myth huh.

4 dead as severe weather moves through central U.S.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Severe thunderstorms spawned suspected tornadoes and triggered widespread flooding that left at least four people dead in Kentucky and Arkansas. The system that stretched from Texas to the Canadian maritime provinces on Sunday had prompted emergency declarations a day earlier in Missouri, Indiana and Illinois.

It looks like a spring time pattern, only minus the spring. It's early.

In general, spring starts about a month earlier now, but usually not THIS early.

There is nothing in the data to suggest that we are not in a considerable warming process. This has been the case for several decades now. That's the data. People can blame sunspots or Chinese hoaxes all they want, but they're whistling past the graveyard.

boy...wow...does that seem accurate.

read an article recently, i can find it....about how leaving the hunter gatherer culture and becoming
"civilized" was the fall of "man".

i agreed with it all.

once they settled into 'communities' they became dependent and then one group demanded they
become subservient.
bingo. it all falls down from there.

then of course....the breeding of nearly eight billions humans. AS COMMODITIES...

guess what?....this storm bypasses the RockyMountains near completely.
storms usually go over the rockies, now they head north from the pacific and come down thru
alaska and into central US leaving the rockies void of snow.

nothing to fret here, just keep moving along.

The modified storm track is caused by the persistent coastal high pressure, which is caused by Arctic ice melt and warming in general.

The noreaster in NE US is going to be a big one... potentially approaching Sandy in places.

'Unprecedented' Native American burial site discovered off Florida's Gulf Coast

Quote:
A burial site hidden for some 7,000 years beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico likely has archeologists picking their jaws up from the floor.

As Dr. Ryan Duggins, an underwater archeology supervisor for the Florida Bureau of Archeological Research put it, in part: "Seeing a 7,000-year-old site that is so well preserved in the Gulf of Mexico is awe inspiring. We are truly humbled by this experience."

A fossil hunter while on a dive in 2016 reported possible human skeletal material off the coast of Manasota Key in Charlotte County, Florida. State officials explored the site in the years since and announced Wednesday, Feb. 28, the site is, in fact, a 0.75-acre Native American burial site in a peat-bottomed pond, according to a news release.

The only known examples of submerged offshore prehistoric burial sites are known to be in Israel and Denmark.

Researchers say the water level in the Gulf of Mexico 7,000 years ago was about 30 feet below compared to today. It's likely the pond at the time was on dry land about 9 feet above sea level.

It's believed ancestors of ................

The FCC says a space startup launched four tiny satellites into orbit without permission

Earlier this year, a space startup from Silicon Valley launched four of its first prototype communications satellites on top of an Indian rocket. Except the FCC says that the company didn’t have authorization to send up those spacecraft from the US government, IEEE Spectrum reports. It would seemingly mark the first time a US private company launched un-licensed satellites into orbit — and these rogue spacecraft could pose a danger to other objects in space.

Oh just what we need, more commercial satellites that are essentially space junk. Everybody wants their very own microsat constellation. If this is all the regulation we have, heads-up on the ISS.

Mommy! Mommy! He said the R-word!!!!!!!!!!

And Elon Musk says he's sending people to Mars next year. SUUUUUURE he is. Has he checked the interplanetary cosmic ray levels lately? What's he going to shield them with, last year's Teslas?

Even he says you'll likely die, but at least you'll be in the footsteps of eminent (and dead) explorers. Or something. He's not always that much more coherent than the orange thing from drumpf tower.

Evidence of early innovation pushes back human evolutionary timeline--

The Olorgesailie Basin in Kenya contains a group of Lower Paleolithic archaeological sites (the oldest dating up to 1.2 million years ago), which is notable for the large number of hand axes discovered there since the 1920s. The axes were made by hominins between about 600,000 and 900,000 years ago, along what used to be a lakeshore. Hominins inhabited the area for hundreds of thousands of years, and 320,000 ago, they were already exhibiting complex behaviors - technological innovation, social exchange networks and symbolic communication helped these early populations survive and gain an advantage over competing species, researchers say.

drink up.

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/03/monsan ... nes-beers/
Monsanto’s weedkiller is contaminating popular wines and beers--

The past few years have revealed some disturbing news for the alcohol industry. In 2015, CBS news broke the announcement of a lawsuit against 31 brands of wines for high levels of inorganic arsenic. In 2016, beer testing in Germany also revealed residues of glyphosate in every single sample tested, even independent beers. Moms Across America released test results of 12 California wines that were all found to be positive for glyphosate in 2016. We tested further and released new findings last week of glyphosate in all of the most popular brands of wines in the world, the majority of which are from the U.S., and in batch test results in American beer.

What do these events all have in common? Monsanto’s Roundup.

French molecular biologist Gilles-Éric Séralini released shocking findings in January of 2018 that of all the brands of Roundup they tested,
over a dozen had high levels of arsenic—
over five times the allowable limit along with dangerous levels of heavy metals.

Roundup is commonly sprayed in vineyards to keep the rows looking tidy and free of so-called weeds and
on grain crops (used in beer) as a drying agent just before harvest. :o :o Glyphosate herbicides
do not dry, wash or cook off, :o :o and they have been proven to be neurotoxic, carcinogenic, endocrine disruptors,
and a cause of liver disease at very low levels.

Flooding in TX is climate change all the way. There's even an equation for it.

nowhere in this 'research' mentioned here is there a word about "trees" or "deforestation".
the mentions are of the plant species, the "secondary succession" growth that moves in,
takes over, when the forests of conifer pines are stripped from the earths surface.

do they even know this land, these mountains, were Covered in pines not long ago?
I. Dont. Think. So.

Climate change makes mountain tops bloom, for now--

Europe’s mountain summits are flush with new plant species, a greening that has increased in lock-step with the acceleration of global warming since the mid-20th century, researchers said Wednesday.

Looking at more than 300 summits scattered across the continent, they found that five times as many plant types migrated to higher ground over the last decade than did 50 years ago, from 1957 to 1966.

High mountain areas have warmed nearly twice as much as the planet as a whole, ....

Have you ever seen the moon? I mean really and truly seen it?

Quote:
Have you ever seen the moon?

You will likely answer that you have, many times. But a new short video by filmmakers Wylie Overstreet and Alex Gorosh may have you reconsidering whether you’ve ever actually seen it at all.

Their names will be unfamiliar to you. A check of the authoritative iMDB website turns up resumes thin to the point of translucence. Overstreet, for example, is listed as “Miscellaneous Crew” on “Taking Chance,” a 2009 film starring Kevin Bacon. Gorosh has directed two short films, “The Electronic Afterlife” and “To Scale: The Solar System,” neither of which generated Oscar buzz.

But their three-minute film, “A New View of the Moon” has people talking — and looking, having racked up over a quarter of a million views on YouTube alone. The premise is deceptively simple. The pair wandered around Los Angeles with a telescope, an odd-looking (to us non-scientific types, anyway) contraption vaguely resembling a snare drum that slides up from a round canister.

“What is that, bro?” a guy on a bike asks.

“It’s a telescope,” says Overstreet. “Do you want to check out the moon?”

The offer is made over and over to a cross section of passersby in a cross section of places across greater L.A. And one by one, they put their eyes to the viewfinder and gaze upon what they’ve looked at a million times yet never seen.

Interestingly, Overstreet and Gorosh show us very little of the actual moon. No, what holds your eyes, and lifts your soul is the way these different people in different neighborhoods all respond in precisely the same way — with gasps and shouts and whispers of naked wonder at the sudden nearness of lunar soil............

Alaskan glaciers melting at rate not seen in 400 years

Glaciers in an Alaskan National Park are melting faster than any time in the past 400 years—and summer temperatures are starting to climb, research published March 23 revealed. The American Geophysical Union released the information Tuesday.

Scientists who tested the temperatures of ice cores from the summit of Mount Hunter at Denali National Park revealed that summers are between 2.2 to 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than they were during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries.

Part of Broadway will be car-free this weekend for Earth Day

For the third year running, the city is making Broadway car-free to celebrate Earth Day. This Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a two-mile stretch of the thoroughfare—from Union Square to Times Square—will be closed to vehicular traffic, with pedestrians and cyclists getting the run of the place.
