It's getting to where the UK immigration service should put up signs at the airport, in Russian and English, warning former spooks out of Putin's favor that their safety cannot be guaranteed.

This guy was a former double agent who gave up other Russian spies to whatever they're calling MI6 now. (SIS?) He was doing time in Russia, but they sprung him as part of some spy swap or other.

He just turned up in critical condition along with his daughter. Looks like the usual M.O.. BBC:

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-43303651

Quote:
Mr Skripal's relatives have told the BBC Russian Service that the former spy believed the Russian special services might come after him at any time.

His wife, elder brother and his son have died in the past two years, some in mysterious circumstances, the family believe.

...

Mr Skripal - a former Russian agent convicted of spying for Britain - and his daughter were found slumped on a bench outside a shopping centre on Sunday afternoon. Earlier they were seen walking through an alley leading from a Zizzi restaurant, which has now been "secured" by police. The Bishop's Mill pub has also been cordoned off as a precaution.

Scientists at Porton Down - the UK's secret weapons research facility in Wiltshire - are studying the "unknown substance" that is thought to have made the pair ill.

Definitely a government level hit job using a military grade chemical warfare agent.

BBC:

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-43323847

Quote:
A nerve agent was used to try to murder a former Russian spy and his daughter, police have said.

Sergei and Yulia Skripal were found unconscious in Salisbury on Sunday afternoon and remain critically ill.

A police officer who was the first to attend the scene is now in a serious condition in hospital, Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said.

...

Two other police officers who attended the scene were treated in hospital for minor symptoms, before they were given the all clear. It is understood their symptoms included itchy eyes and wheezing.

Might be getting to be a bit of a broken record, but ...

Has anybody seen Professor Joseph Mifsud lately?

Might want to check a few local morgues.

Russia blames the media. Where have we heard that before?

BBC:

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-43312625

Quote:
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said: "These people have been used by the foreign media for an anti-Russian campaign.

"It's a traditional campaign. The tradition is to make things up. We can only see it as a provocation."

...

The Russian embassy in London accused the media of creating "an impression of a planned operation by the Russian special services, which is completely untrue".

Nerve agent, and they know which one, though that information is so sensitive that so far they're not telling. You'd have to get the stuff at the local FSB office, and they'd have to order it special for you.

Highly likely Russia behind spy attack, says Theresa May

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-43377856

Quote:
A former Russian spy and his daughter were poisoned by a military-grade nerve agent of a type developed by Russia, Theresa May has told MPs.

The prime minister said the government had concluded it was "highly likely" that Russia was responsible for the attack on Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury on 4 March.

She said Russia's ambassador in London had been summoned to explain whether it was "a direct action by the Russian state" or the result of it "losing control" of its stock of nerve agents.

Damn it, Boris! If I've told you once, I've told you twice, do not leave the weaponized military grade nerve agents on the bench in the park, again!

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-43377698

Quote:
A former Russian spy and his daughter were poisoned by a chemical that is part of a group of nerve agents known as Novichok, UK Prime Minister Theresa May has said.

...

One of the group of chemicals known as Novichok - A-230 - is reportedly 5-8 times more toxic than VX nerve agent.

"This is a more dangerous and sophisticated agent than sarin or VX and is harder to identify," says Professor Gary Stephens, a pharmacology expert at the University of Reading.

A number of variants of A-230 have been manufactured, and one of them was reportedly approved for use by the Russian military as a chemical weapon.
