In 2012 Kevin McCarthy got 73.2% of 216,003 total votes against an Independent Terry Phillips.

In 2014 he got 74.8% of 134,043 total votes against the Democrat Raul Garcia who had been a write in candidate in the primary and who got 313 votes in that primary.

In 2016 he got 69% of 241,584 total votes against The Democrat Wendy Reed.

That district contains 707,345 people, of which perhaps 500,000 of them might be of an age to be potential voters. At least half of them have not not been voting. Kevin McCarthy's seat has not been tested. So far he's just ran against names on a blank. :|

The Ethnicity of the district is 50.6% White, 35.5% Hispanic, 5.9% Black, 4.5% Asian, and 3.5% other. What would happen if the potential voters in that district were to woken up?

This time Wendy Reed is running again as well as two other Democrats, Mary Helen Barro, and Tatiana Matta. Barro doesn't appear to be doing anything. Reed doesn't appear to be doing much.

Reed is having a hard time, when she does get press coverage it seems she has to share it with Tatiana Matta, and they invariably paste Matta's photo to the article not Reed's photo. And Matta is getting a lot of media coverage of her own, with photos.

I don't know what Wendy Reed looks like, this is what Tatiana Matta looks like, and that ought to explain everything about this:

I see effort and charisma, she'll wake those sleeping voters up.

Bye bye Kevin McCarthy!

Damn. McCarthy and Nunes. Maybe we should split up this state. No, bad idea, then they get Senators too.

Sounds a bit like IL-6 here although I don't have the voter stats. But we have Roskam, with all the same history as assholes like McCarthy, and who has quietly ascended to the position of number 4 House Republican with almost nobody noticing. And yet he has problems here in the land of Henry Hyde. He's been in hiding from the voters in IL-6 since early in the presidential campaign trying to avoid questions about who he was supporting. And he has become even more reclusive since. Pretty wise since IL-6 went solidly for Clinton. But he managed just under 60% in the 2016 election.

So we have 7 opponents in the March 20th Democratic primary. The best I can say for any of them when it comes to the possibility of actually beating Roskam is...meh. It's hard to say, when this district is probably going to go for reincarnated women's nazi death camp guard Jeanne Ives over Gov. Rauner in the GOP primary.

Those older white voters like so many voters in many other districts, tend to elect the candidate
they know. Likely McCarthy has done enough over the years to please these voters.

I know nothing of the Democratic challengers but let's see if any of them distinguishes themselves
to actually make incumbents like McCarthy notice them. Until then, the incumbents will do nothing
but preach their seniority and will ignore them even after election day.
