Perhaps we are moving toward a day where this is no longer news. By that, I mean it will be such a routine part of our experience, it won't even feel newsworthy.

So --

At least 8 killed in shooting at Texas' Santa Fe High School, sheriff says
https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/18/us/texas ... index.html

At least eight people -- and as many as 10 -- have died as a result of a shooting Friday morning at a high school in the southeastern Texas city of Santa Fe, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

This is the third school shooting in eight days, and the 22nd since the beginning of the year in the United States.
There has been, on average, 1 school shooting every week this year.

A male suspect, believed to be a student, has been arrested in the shooting at Santa Fe High School, about 20 miles outside Galveston, Gonzalez said.

Orange already on TV giving T&P. He says that he thinks it's awful. My ass he does.

Things are always behind on the West Coast. We always wake up to more dead students. Usually right about when the T&P start.

NRA still in the silent phase. Isn't it usually about 24 hours? Soon some high-paid press yahoo will be saying it's time for teachers to pack heat.

Ball will be served into Congress' court. They will stand there as if nothing happened. Oh, some might take a turn on C-SPAN giving T&P. Or not.

Back to first places, please. We're going again. Roll 'em and mark take 3000..........

I didn't choose it. I came out of my mother in it, and it's a big step to go somewhere else. Starting around age 14, I joined up with other activists to try and change it. That was a long time ago. After something on the order of 100 political struggles, I think I've been on the "winning" side of maybe 4 or 5. And of course, the "victory" is nearly always temporary.

I've got it to where Ms. Z. will agree to split if things get bad enough, but it's still a big step.

Soon enough shootings this small and minimal wont even make the national news. Now when I say small and minimal I am using sarcasm to make a point, obviously, but to the gun humpers this is just the cost of their hobby or toy.

If my Xbox One X gave people around it cancer, I would put it away for good.

Man shows up to site of Santa Fe High School shooting with American flag, Trump hat and gun

A Texas man stirred up controversy when he arrived at the scene of the Santa Fe High School shooting with an American flag and a pistol on his hip.

Footage shared on Twitter by Scott McGrew shows two news reporters from local stations KHOU and KPRC interviewing an unidentified man at a gas station near the scene of Friday's mass shooting, which reportedly left multiple victims dead.

"What was going through your head when you found out that this was going on?" one reporter asked the man.

"Get to the school, make America great again," he responded.

"By doing what? What was your plan of action?" she continued.

"Offering support," he said. "Just, 'God bless y'all' will go a long way right now for a lot of people."

"God bless y'all," he added before walking away from the cameras.

Another man who overheard the interview then approached the reporter in a rage.

It's Texas.

Friend of a friend plays in a symphony orchestra there. She wants to work somewhere else where the musicians don't wear guns to rehearsal.

It's been bad enough for a while now. It was bad enough with Bush 43. But we got lulled into a state of complacency with the Obama years. A pack of poor dumbass progressives who deluded ourselves into believing that the country had really changed somehow.

But agreed, it's a big pain in the ass step. And the IRS never lets go, no matter where you end up.

Well, it's not just a big step, relocation is a cost-prohibitive step, be it across town or internationally.

And also there is always the question of where else to go when you're any given matrix permutation of minorities, and you're not going to be treated any better in the new country of choice than in this one.

So, as many of our ancestors chose to do, we stay and we fight these multigenerational struggles we've been fighting since the 1500s. I don't blame anyone with the means and social capital to blend in to go somewhere else; good on them and godspeed. But those of us who stay don't necessarily choose to stay, either.

 Yeah, nothing says "Make America Great Again" like having someone kill students and teachers at a school.

Thoughts, prayers, and vomitus.

Gov. Abbot just puked up a pile of chunks on the Tee Vee. Abbott reported that the .38 revolver and the shotgun used belonged to daddy. It was not reported if daddy is still walking around free or is in jail where he fucking belongs.

Obviously the student wasn't brown, otherwise 45 would have already labeled him an immigrant terrorist or another of "those animals". Currently it's thoughts and prayers until he figures out how to blame the FBI or whoever for it!

If it's daddy's gun, and daddy had it out so he could get it, then daddy needs go to jail as an accomplice to mass murder. That's what would be called "personal responsibility".

Notice that, while Trump bleats about MS-13, and that immigrants are animals, it's white males that do all these mass shootings.

Greg Abbot and Donald Trump are gang members in suits.

Another stupid white conservative/Nazi child.

At some point, this country is going to come to terms with the fact that this is an MO.

Paul Ryan just had a bunch of DC high school students arrested for peacefully protesting at his office today.

That's strange. Every other country in the world has schools the same layout as US schools. Yet, there aren't mass shootings every week. What could be the thing that's the difference between the US and the rest of the world?

Even David Frum, bless him, gets it.

It’s the Guns - Atlantic

Quote:
Americans of high-school age are 82 times more likely to die from a gun homicide than 15- to 19-year-olds in the rest of the developed world.

This stark discrepancy is often treated as a baffling fact, requiring some counterintuitive explanation. After today’s massacre in Texas, the state’s lieutenant governor, Dan Patrick, suggested that the problem may be that high schools have too many doors. “Had there been one single entrance possibly for every student, maybe [the shooter] would have been stopped.”

At other moments, we’re told that the problem is that we need to do a better job guessing which troubled teens may prove murderous at some point in the future, or dealing with the excesses of masculinity, or possibly the crisis of meaning and identity in the secularizing modern world. As always, though, there is a simpler and more powerful explanation of why there has been no similar school shooting in Germany since 2009; or in Canada since 2007; none in the United Kingdom since 1996—while conversely, more young Americans have died in school shootings in 2018 than in all the nation’s combat operations all over the world.

Too many doors. This is the kind of shit that pisses me off. Sandy Hook had one entrance, with a guard. Didn't stop anything.

This guy came to school for a year in a black trench coat and boots. He made bombs. Uhhhh... anyone remember Columbine? Do I see a copycat here? I realize that history in the United States only goes back a few months, but now really.

He wrote about it. They all write about it. I'll bet the cops find stuff online about it.

They correspond, you know. There are forums, reddits, chats, etc for kids who think shooting up the school is cool. On occasion, one of them actually does it.

The signs were there for months, and nothing happened.

The only doors relevant to this situation are the ones who did a song about offing Dad and nastying Mom, and then going to Malibu on the Santa Monica bus.

It's all such BS.

David Neiwert just yesterday:

The Terrifying Trend of White Men Radicalized Online Becoming IRL Terrorists - Vice

When some of us ask "where were they radicalized," it's not just a rhetorical question meant to poke fun at rightwing nutjobs freaked out about Muslims. It's a real question with some real answers.

Quote:
A young, self-described "sovereign citizen" is implicated in a mass shooting at a Waffle House in Tennessee that kills four nonwhite customers. An "involuntary celibate," or incel, is arrested over a Toronto van attack that kills ten people. A young, apparent neo-Nazi involved in an online fascist group is arrested in Illinois with a large cache of weapons. Another young man in Georgia, who reportedly "idolized" the teenager who killed 17 people at a high school in Parkland, Florida, opens fire on cars on a Georgia freeway, injuring two people before shooting himself.

These incidents, all from within the past month or so, have variables, of course. Besides the settings, methods of violence, and kinds of weaponry used, distinct agendas seem to have undergirded them. But they all appear to generally fall under the far-right ideological umbrella.

They also have something important in common: They were all committed by young white men who had apparently been radicalized online.

Too many fucking doors?

Hey, asshats? When a fire breaks out or another shit-for-brains shooter comes along with a gun you want everyone going out through one door? So the shooter can sit there picking off targets?

Christ, these people are stupid. How the hell do they manage to dress themselves in the morning?

1 dead, 1 injured in shooting near high school graduation, police say

One woman was killed and another was injured in a Friday night shooting in the parking lot across the street from Mt. Zion High School, police said. The two shot were not students.

The shooting followed the the Perry Learning Center graduation at the nearby Clayton County Performing Arts Center on Mt. Zion Parkway, according to Clayton County Public Schools.
