Liberals saved the capitalist system twice.

Not once, twice.

Odd list. I would quibble and point out the CIA was probably created by WASP conservatives, not liberals. (See: The Good Shepherd.)

It may have been enacted under Truman in 1947, but still.

J. Edgar Hoover, who helmed the FBI from its creation to the 1970s when he died, hence naming the building after him, was definitely a conservative.

P.S. I do think there is a liberal case for a country having both a internal and external security service; most nations, have both. But both the CIA and FBI have done very illiberal stuff.

The case is that it serves the national security. Most of the CIA's rogue conduct actually hurt national security in the long run, but the agency did some useful things you don't hear about. The FBI can also go either way. Hoover had his prejudices, and there were some issues, yes.

Yeah. "Argo" is one of those stories they kept secret until recently.

Used a bogus science fiction flick to get hostages out of Tehran. It's a cool story.

Still, a lot of dark skeletons in that closet, particularly the stuff they did to Frank Olson. :(

Harassed MLK, denied the reality of Italian Mafia/organized crime, closeted anti-LGBT, COINTELPRO ... yeah, "some issues".

Plus back when he was just an agent working for the DOJ, cut his teeth on the Red Scare. (Of the 20s).
