Fox News lies about cost of turkeys

Post by gounion »

It’s astonishing. A month or two ago, a right-winger complained about a hamburger and fries at an airport costing $78. Not exactly. While I can attest that food IS expensive at airports, it was the several mixed drinks he consumed that made up the bulk of the price he paid. Bet he didn’t leave a tip.

And this is the right lying.

Now, Fox contributor and former Congressman Jason Chaffetz, says he paid $90 for a turkey! Wow, he says, thanks Biden!

But turkey prices are lower than they were last year. I paid a buck twenty-five a pound for a 17-lb bird. He was called out on his lies. https://news.yahoo.com/fox-news-guest-c ... 55803.html

So, proof? He posted this:

Image

First, it’s pretty obvious he made up the “$90 turkey” story, and when called on it, he went to Meier’s, a high-end grocery store, and got an expensive “woke” turkey - specialty turkey from a ranch where there aren’t any antibiotics, grass-fed and all kinds of other stuff. I know you can go to specialty grocers where you can get all kinds of heirloom turkeys and such for high prices.

Hell, we’ve got a specialty butcher in my town, where I go to get bison from time to time. It’s quite expensive.

But here’s what happened, obviously: He made it up out of whole cloth. Why do I know that? Because he paid $114, not $90. So he had to go find a turkey that was expensive.

No one but conservatives are buying THAT bullshit.

From what I've read online and heard on the media about his claim it seems Chaffetz is telling both a truth and a lie.

The truth is he bought a turkey from a California farm that specializes in organically raised turkey and everyone knows organically raise animals and plants (food) costs more than those non-organically raised.

The lie is the price is due to Biden's economic policies. Curiously, he never said what those policies were because like glenn, it's easier to make a claim than it is to back it up with facts.

The reality, as the OP link says, is turkey prices are down from last year.

So I guess Jason Chaffetz is a turkey complaining about a turkey.

He lied that he bought a $90 turkey. He made that up. When he caught blowback, he went and bought a $114 turkey. Guess that's all he could find.

You could easily find a turkey in LA for thirty bucks. There was no shortage. Now they're all spoken for, but you could, maybe a week ago. It's far from the best turkey out there, but cook it right and it's as yummy as turkey ever gets.

Biden tried to address shortages, many of which were originally started by covid and exacerbated by bad trade policy and too many wars, but Congress bottled everything up.

I guess Chaffetz shouldn't be complaining because isn't that the so-called "free market" at work?

The turkey price lies continue. https://www.rawstory.com/elise-stefanik-2666334656/
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) spread Thanksgiving cheer by falsely claiming that the price of buying a turkey has skyrocketed — and then compounded it by blaming the nonexistent phenomenon on President Joe Biden.

In a post on Twitter, Stefanik claimed that "this Thanksgiving, Americans will pay 7.2 % more for their turkey because of Joe Biden and Bidenomics."

In reality, as CNBC reported recently, turkey prices are down significantly from last year, as the average price of a 16-pound bird has dropped by more than 5 percent compared to a year ago.

And that's not all — the report noted that prices for several Thanksgiving staples have fallen in the last year.

"According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the average cost of a dinner for 10 people will be $61.17, down 4.5% from last year’s record of $64.05," wrote CNBC.

Given that Stefanik's claim on Twitter was the opposite of the truth, she got an earful from several of her followers about it.

"You're shameless," replied progressive media website Meidas Touch.

"Last year, I paid $50 dollars for a 20 lb. Butterball turkey at Krogers," responded Twitter user Mike Davis. "Today, I paid $17 for my 20 lb. Butterball turkey at the same Krogers."

Twitter user Alex Cole, meanwhile, jokingly accused Stefanik of being "another damn Republican clown who buys their turkey from the airport."

"When is the last time you went to Market 32 or Hannaford?" wrote another user. "Or even visited the locally owned grocery store in the community you live?"
Of course, JoeMemphis will call it an “opinion”. I wonder if he goes to the grocery store, and when he checks out, he argues that it’s his “opinion” that he should only pay half of what the store has charged him?

Dude lied then went out and bought the highest cost "designer turkey" he could find. All these guys do is lie. That's the republican way. This is like the "journalist" from several months back who complained about the cost of his dinner at the airport, failing to mention most of the cost was the alcoholic he was racking up.

Kinda of like the guy who co-signed a loan at over 25% for his daughter's car then complained dealers shouldn't be allowed to do this (implying need for government regulation) even though he opposes government regulation.

Chaffetz voluntarily made the purchase. He chose the turkey he wanted. He knew what the price of it was. He knew there were turkeys at much, much low prices but he chose the most expensive one he could find. I think this meme says all that needs to be said about the turkey called Chaffetz.

Yes and I paid it off before the first payment was due. Which I knew I was going to do and the only reason I took out the original loan.

The fact that faux even lies about the price of turkey proves that faux IS a turkey.
