What the hell is it with Scientology churches being attacked by raging mad persons with swords?

This happened back in 2008 too, Majorski the "Epic Sword Guy" was shot and killed by a security guard.

The really weird thing is each time, right before they attacked, they screamed "there can be only one!"

(a small Highlander joke)

:rw)

BTW, I always thought the sequel was ridiculous, because they retconned all the lore of the first movie. Apparently there can be only one ... on this planet, anyway.

Plus, some ridiculous deus ex machina to bring back Sean Connery for the sequel, too.

Nobody shot JR. The whole season was a dream.

The last show in the Newhart series ended with him waking up next to Susanne Pleshette. She'd been his wife in the show that Bob Newhart had been in before that one. The whole series was a dream.

The gun problem in the US is not a dream. It's real.

Sorry, world: The NRA is no longer just an American problem — it’s an international menace

In recent years, the National Rifle Association — which since the 1970s has taken a famously hardline stance for relaxing gun laws in America, with deadly consequences — has no longer been content to litigate the gun control debate at home. Increasingly, the organization has turned its focus abroad.

A recent Al Jazeera investigation revealed that NRA officials recently advised Australia’s One Nation Party, an extreme-far right group, on their plan to ease the strict gun control the nation passed in the wake of the 1996 Port Arthur massacre. Pro-NRA social media accounts are also flooding New Zealand with pro-gun propaganda as the nation prepares to pass a similar ban on semiautomatic weapons in the wake of the Christchurch mosque shooting. NRA officials have also lobbied the Mexican Senate, and — as the Maria Butina saga shows — were open to partnerships with Russia as well.

The National Rifle Association was founded in 1859, in England.

Twelve years later an American NRA chapter was organized.

In 1890, Queen Victoria granted the NRA a Royal Charter of Incorporation. It is a sports governing body there. They have regulatory and sanctioning powers. In the US the NRA provides classes which satisfy regulatory demands, they issue hunter safety cards, but they do not have direct regulatory powers.

Wikipedia referred to the American NRA as being a "cousin" to the British NRA.

Judge blocks California's high-capacity ammunition ban

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — High-capacity gun magazines will remain legal in California under a ruling Friday by a federal judge who cited home invasions where a woman used the extra bullets in her weapon to kill an attacker while in two other cases women without additional ammunition ran out of bullets.

"Individual liberty and freedom are not outmoded concepts," San Diego-based U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez wrote as he declared unconstitutional the law that would have banned possessing any magazines holding more than 10 bullets.

By this logic, everyone should be allowed to own a fragmentation grenade. Done correctly, that would stop home invasions every time.

The NRA has inserted itself and its money into gun control issues of many countries and they've been doing it for some time. It really does not fit with their defense of Second Amendment rights since those countries don't have such a thing.

Not to mention the government's fake gun lobby in Russia in order to infiltrate the real one here, because that's how you get to Republicans.

Gun Control Passes Nearly Unanimously In New Zealand

“New Zealand lawmakers on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly in favor of new gun restrictions during the first stage of a bill they hope to rush into law by the end of next week,” the AP reports.

“The bill would ban the types of weapons a gunman used to kill 50 people at two mosques last month.”

Whenever there's been a mass shooting the NRA usually says "It's too soon after the shooting to start talking about gun control" when gun control is brought up. The problem with this statement is there with a mass shooting every week there will never be a good time to start talking about gun control, according to the NRA.

Since the subject of sword attacks has come up in this thread (though it would seem off topic ;) ), I feel I must mention there has been another sword attack ... by another MAGA supporter.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/crime/artic ... 729404.php

It looks like Trump supporters are definitely living up to the ideal of "going medieval" on us.

Yes, NRA, swords kill people, too, but I don't think we have a massive sword control problem in this country. And I have never heard of a dude with a sword killing 20 people in a McDonald's all at once.

Crossbows are still made. They're used for hunting sometimes. The solution for a bad guy with a sword is a couple of good guys with crossbows.

A bad guy with a sword is no match for a good guy with a Klingon Bat'leth.

For every incident of justifiable homicide with a gun, there are 43 wrongful handgun deaths. If a surgeon saved one person for every 43 he killed through incompetence and/or callous indifference, that surgeon wouldn't be, and certainly shouldn't be, practicing as a surgeon for long.

West London shooting: Police fire at vehicle after it crashes into Ukrainian Ambassador's car outside London embassy

Police in London have opened fire after a car repeatedly crashed into the Ukraine ambassador’s official vehicle outside the country’s embassy.

Armed officers arriving at the scene shot at the suspect’s motor after it was then driven at them, the Metropolitan Police said.

If it's anything like New York, he was pissed about preferential diplomatic parking.

What's not like New York is that NYPD would have blown his head off.

More likely about having to pay to drive in London. London instituted a fee, years ago, to drive in London to decrease vehicle traffic in the city.

Columbine High, other schools on lockdown to due threat investigation

LITTLETON, Colo. (KKTV) - Several Jefferson County schools including Columbine High are on lockdown Tuesday due to an apparent "credible threat," according to the sheriff's office.

The nature of the threat is unclear. The sheriff's office says all students are safe.

Some whacko woman got seduced by the Dark Side. Online, of course. She hung out in the usual places and watched the usual videos. She wrote that it was time to do Columbine again and better this time. (Murder, she wrote.) She went to Colorado, and bought a pump action shotgun and mucho ammo legally. The only thing they need is to know in that state is that you're over 18. She was.

People rhapsodize about "Only in America." This time, they're right.
