'Humanity is on thin ice': UN releases alarming report on greenhouse gas emissions

Wanna have a hardy laugh? Watch people with NO science background or knowledge, based on ONLY comments from the dumbest human on earth (dont need to say his name) MOCK this report.

Greenhouse gas emissions are continuing to increase, exacerbating the challenge world leaders face in preventing the impacts of climate change from worsening, the United Nations warns in its latest climate report.

Emissions in 2019 were about 12% higher than they were in 2010 and 54% higher than they were in 1990, largely due to increases in fossil fuel production, industrial activities and methane emissions, the report, released Monday by the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, states.

As a result, human-caused climate change is already affecting many weather and climate extremes in every region across the globe, leading to widespread adverse impacts and related losses and damages to nature and people, according to the report.
I sigh in your general direction.

California went from a 1200-year drought to (at this point) a 50-year flood in a couple of months. In November they predicted one more year of La Nina, even though that had never happened before. Now they say go ahead and water your lawn, if you haven't paved over it yet.

And the storms just keep on coming, for now anyway. Still cranking out 3 inches a week in LA, after a period when 3 inches was a year's worth. Water comes out of the ground in random places. You'll see a little crack in the street, and it'll run down the hill. Gutters have rivers on sunny days (which do occur about once every two weeks, never for longer than one day).

That's all the evidence I need. Random chance was already extreme in CA, but we put it on steroids.

The link doesn't mention any of the people who participated in the study by name. Making it hard to objectively endorse or condemn the study.

I was actually thinking along the lines that people like you would heartily endorse it, without knowing anything about it.

BTW what do you say your thermostat at? We keep our 67 never over 68 in the winter and 72 in the summer

I realize that we are shitting in our own nest, and we should work to mitigate that. But you just want to shit as much as you can in it.

My proof is forecast to rain another 3 inches starting sometime late today.

Sure, it's empirical evidence, but it fits the chaos math theory of climate change better than any of the other weather explanations that the usual denial crowd has come up with. Those run toward, "Shit happens."

Since I live in the area of the TVA, my power is generated with hydro power. Quite clean.

I'm not suggesting we go back to prehistoric technology. But we can do things cleaner, and I think we should. You hate the very idea of clean energy. You LOVE polluting, because the right says it's good.

The chairs, vice chairs, and staff of all the UN IPCC Working Groups can be found here.

https://www.ipcc.ch/working-group/wg1/

The reports are not all written by Greta Thunberg.

The report and the data it's based on are also available.

Problem is the dumbest human on earth said climate change not a thing so the con here repeats that. Also, oil companies tell them that it is not a thing, and they like that.

Hey, I could be doing more, I have 2 hybrid cars and they should be electric. I do all that I can but I could do more. At least I dont DENY the reality!

Also the wars that pop up and the manufacturing of weapons increase and use of weapons is like a climate change free for all that remains unaddressed. Biggest changers of climate get the smallest attention.

War is indeed a major contributor to climate change for a variety of reasons. It doesn't do as much damage as runaway consumer culture, but it does real damage nonetheless.

We just hit thirty inches of rain in LA. That's something like three years' worth in three months. Yes, I have skin in this particular game. I like when there's not a disaster warning coming on my cell phone every 5 or so days.

Sp when you were working in the DC area how often did you leave your SUV parked and take public transportation to work.

With the exception of my job which can't be helped. I know I pollute less than you and probably less Tham mist people here.

Drive a 23 Toyota and control the thermostat are two things.

Big trucks burn diesel, different ball game. Some of the same rules, but not all of them.

EVs are a different version of the same problem. We have to get those potential differences stirring electrons to life by injecting energy into the other end of the circuit. Sometimes it comes from falling water or moving air. More often it comes from combustion or fission.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't cut way back on our addiction to gasoline. That's nasty stuff on all levels.

I couldn't take public transport; it didn't serve the area of my office. However, I moved just a few short miles from work. I learned to use the Metro, and my apartment was next to a Metro line, and always used it when going downtown for meetings, and for other things. When I took the train, I walked with my rollerbag to the Metro, then to Union Station. I went as far as Boston and back never driving.

No, you pollute far more than I do with your truck.

Again, you don't believe in climate change, and you don't believe in doing anything better for the environment. You LIKE to pollute.

The DC Metro is actually a pretty nice system. LA copied the idea of recycling the city's huge old train station into a transit center. Of course, ours wasn't just off the National Mall, just near a touristy preserved historic street. But it's had its benefits there too. Sure shaped up that neighborhood.

Yes, it is. I'm a hick from Kansas, so taking the Metro kinda had me freaked out. Not knowing what to do.

But YouTube came to the rescue and I was soon a pro. I felt pretty damned good about taking the Metro to Union Station, rollerbag at my side, to hop onto the Acela. I've said it before, if we had the Acela going everywhere, I'd never fly again.

The Acela is the only way to go for trips up and down the bosnywash corridor. Europe is another example of the greater suitability of trains for trips of that distance.

Gets a bit more iffy when you're doing the NY/LA thing.

It's too bad the bullet train from LA to SF didn't work out. I was looking forward to riding it. Days away from LA are very therapeutic.

There are 30 good reasons to believe science on this one, coming as they did six months after a 1200-year drought. Actually I haven't checked the rain gauge since the last downpour. There might be about 30.2 by now.

The empirical evidence is starting to fit the math.

BTW, the fact that a small number of people back in the 60s thought the Earth was headed for another ice age doesn't invalidate the fact that an overwhelming consensus of climate scientists believes current climate change is anthropogenic and a risk for humanity.

Arguing that is a kind of logical fallacy. Yes, scientists make mistakes, no denying, but thanks to peer review, they usually fix them (or get caught). And build better models. And improve their models and predictions.

Sorry, but I'm more interested in what climate scientists have to say than the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
