lake powell is at 20%. barely enough level pressure to flow anywhere. whats left literally sits there.

lake mead outflow running about 8900CFS..with INflow of only 8300CFS..from upstream at Powell.
the outflow was...13,900 ten days ago.
these large water holding resources are, possibly have, run out of enough pressure to flow down stream, to flow at all.

I guess the thing that doesn’t exist, what’s it called climate change or something, is happening again.
I sigh in your general direction.

B.C. flood: American waterway at the root of Sumas Prairie disaster---

In Merritt and Princeton, snowmelt made the storm even worse. So did the many hectares of scorched land in B.C.'s Interior after a devastating wildfire season.

“The ground essentially becomes hydrophobic,” explained Bobby Sekhon, a meteorologist for Environment and Climate Change Canada.
“It doesn’t have trees or root structures to hold the moisture in place, and oftentimes, water will just run right over that soil.”

While large-scale flooding like what’s happening in Sumas Prairie is a rare phenomenon in the province, experts say it could become a routine occurrence because of climate change.

“We know we are warming and can expect more extreme weather in the future. That could be more intense atmospheric rivers,” said Sekhon.

The Colorado River used to flow all the way to the sea in Mexico. It built up a mighty delta, which is still there, but now it's minus the river. The Colorado River is 100% tapped. It just stops, somewhere out in the desert. The exact location depends on how much rain there has been that year.

Even before climate change became a factor, there were problems when everyone in the whole SW US wanted their own dams, aqueducts, and diversion canals. One of these caused a legendary engineering mistake. It accidentally created the Salton Sea, which should not exist. Today, it's basically a gigantic evaporating basin and an earthquake hazard besides, which is something we most definitely did not need.

There are water pacts which supposedly coordinate all these dams and diversions, and these are being renegotiated. It's complicated because Mexico gets into it too. All these lakes affect the level of all the other ones.

Basically the problem with the Colorado River is too many people and not enough rain. Always was, but now it's worse.

the coloradoRio was once made created and fed by mountain snow melting and flowing down stream. the now then rains
that hit the west slope were not as much as the east slope so dependence on the river flow from snow was Key. storms built
over the Rockies then fell on the eastern side and slid on into kansas, etc.
since theres hardly any rain now, the Arkansas and Platte Rios now depend soley on snow melt and that is slim nowadays.

the west slope was fully dependent on snow melt since steady rains from the great basin deserts were not dependable.
snow melt was key. now that key is...somewhere else.
that snow melt is what filled lake powell which then filled lake mead which then sent out the IRR water to Imperial Valley CA.

we can all see this is not working out so well at this point in human history.
which is quite like the prior civilizations that lived on this continent from Beringia to Peru.
they too used abused and ran out of all resources which affected countless millions of 2legs and is repeating today.

the diff this time is watching it all on tv.

The man who convinced QAnon followers that JFK Jr is still alive ---
By Nick Pearson

....there are still dozens if not hundreds of people are still waiting in the park for the son of the late president.

The crowd is following the direction of Michael Brian Protzman, a Texas conspiracy theorist who initially predicted the re-emergence
of Mr Kennedy.
Mr Protzman has more than 100,000 followers on the social media app Telegram, where he posts a variety of conspiracy theory-heavy messages about Donald Trump, the COVID-19 vaccine and many other topics.
The Telegram channel includes posts about making your own hydroxychloroquine with lemon and grapefruit rinds, theories about
Ghislaine Maxwell and predictions about Bitcoin.

Mr Protzman has told his followers Jesus Christ fathered children with Mary Magdalene, creating a bloodline that stretches to John F Kennedy.
He also claimed the elder Kennedy is Jesus Christ, KennedyJr is the Archangel Gabriel, and Donald Trump is the Holy Spirit.

He has also espoused many anti-Semitic views as well as favourable comments about Adolf Hitler.
Photos posted to Mr Protzman's Telegram channel show him in a hotel lobby wearing a hat made out of tinfoil. IMAGE
QAnon is a far-right-wing conspiracy theory that believes a group of Satanic, cannibalistic paedophile celebrities are operating a global sex trafficking ring...sounds just like Epstein/trumpy.

Q is starting to remind me of millennarian religion. It's apparently the right wing version of the Cargo Cult. Generally this sort of thing becomes popular when a population in culture shock has for whatever reason developed a need for a higher power to bring them redemption and restoration of lost prosperity and/or sovereignty. That would certainly apply to the American right.

Monarch butterflies return in large numbers to California after a six year low.
The number wintering along California’s central coast is bouncing back after the population, whose presence is often a good indicator of ecosystem health, reached an all-time low last year. Experts pin their decline on climate change, habitat destruction and lack of food due to drought.

An annual winter count last year by the Xerces Society recorded fewer than 2,000 butterflies, a massive decline from the tens of thousands tallied in recent years and the millions that clustered in trees from Northern California’s Mendocino County to Baja California, Mexico in the south in the 1980s. Now, their roosting sites are concentrated mostly on California’s central coast.

This year’s official count started Saturday and will last three weeks but already an unofficial count by researchers and volunteers shows there are over 50,000 monarchs at overwintering sites, said Sarina Jepsen, Director of Endangered Species at Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation.

“This is certainly not a recovery but we’re really optimistic and just really glad that there are monarchs here and that gives us a bit of time to work toward recovery of the Western monarch migration,” Jepsen said.

That's good. That's been worrisome.

:)

I live near butterfly town in butterfly county, the mother of all counties in California. We haven't had butterflies in our county for a long time.

:(

It's kind of hard to have our yearly butterfly festival without butterflies.

High winds in Alaska carry volcanic ash 100 miles towards Kodiak Island. The ash is from the Novarupta volcano that erupted in 1912.
Volcano scientists issued an alert Wednesday, warning that a cloud of ash — from an eruption more than century ago — was headed toward Alaska’s Kodiak Island.

The ash is from the powerful 1912 eruption of Novarupta, a volcano on the Alaska Peninsula that dropped volcanic ash that is still visible today.

Strong northwesterly winds in the vicinity of Katmai National Park and Preserve and Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes on Wednesday kicked up the loose volcano ash.

Winds were expected to carry the ash about 100 miles (161 kilometers) southeast toward Kodiak Island, and an aviation alert to aircraft was issued for the low-lying event. Scientists estimated the cloud would not go above 7,000 feet (2,133.6 meters).

Recent science shows the real dangers inherent to the misuse of Colorado River water and the existence of the Salton Sea.

The sea is drying out, evaporating, and a recent expedition by a professor and grad student degree candidates shows that it is far more toxic than thought. It was thought to be a major health hazard, so anything worse has to be pretty bad indeed. It's full of cadmium, lithium, and other toxic elements in fairly pure concentrations. There's already a problem with toxic dust downwind of the sea this time of year, and this is expected to become far worse, and a regional public health threat.

The only good thing they found was that some of these elements are so pure and in such large amounts that their extraction could become a commercial proposition. That would at least spread them around more and lessen the hazard for most of the built-up California coast in San Diego County.

The dangers of the toxic elements around the Salton Sea have been known for decades. If commercial extraction takes place then there's going to have to be controls established to reduce/eliminate the increased dust from spreading. Most like it would involve watering down the areas where it's being extracted which means taking more water to an area already short on water.
