I can think of a thousand different better uses for this money. With number one being do not spend it.
If we are going to spend it why not spend it on
Schools
Roads
Bridges
Healthcare
and so much more.
Instead our lawmakers regardless of party have decided to spend it on buying votes.
The pandemic is pretty much behind us. We have full employment so why piss away money.
With a recession on the horizon and probably here, why not wait to see where this money is needed the most.
Or better yet do not spend it. Our government is like a kid at Walmart with a $20 bill. It is going to get spent and spent now.

It is buying votes. Plain and simple. Doesn’t solve a single underlying problem.Glennfs wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 9:11 am https://www.forbes.com/advisor/personal ... us-checks/

I say the same thing when we give millions in taxpayer money for corporations. That’s buying votes too, as well as selling votes for campaign cash.

Otherwise, you would not be asking this inane rhetorical question.

Oh, there are tons of very basic differences between us, this picture aside.
But it was not the first thing I noticed, just one more thing I notice about your type that has spent the past 150+ years whining about handouts to the negroes.
You guys do not level these complaints about giveaways and loopholes to the entities you actually consider to be "people." On the other hand, you still do not consider us to be "people," and you never did.
Correction: you guys think we're 80% people.
Yet, when government benefits actual taxpayers that look like this lady in a stock photo, you get out the hemp rope.

Like PPP loans paid back with interest to Steve Bannon family values grifters like Ralph Norman? Like that?
Congress makes the loan program, the grifters apply for the loans, get the loans, and are paid back with interest.

Re: Why are We Doing This
Glennfs did not cry "why are we doing this" regarding the PPP loans, which as ProfX has pointed out, are really grants. viewtopic.php?p=35836#p35836
His rep is the recipient of such a grant. No pained outcry of fiscal protest from him, on that.
But, put a stock photo of Black woman opening her mail as the main image...watch how quick conservative whites clutch their wallets...

Conservative whites are defunding the schools, and have been doing so for the past generation.
Actually much longer, dating back to Brown v. Board of Ed.
But your commiebaiting hatred of higher ed and your vociferous support of imposed anti-CRT and anti-trans ideology tells anyone all they need to know about your goals for education.

Re: Why are We Doing This
I guess I'll take the first stab at answering the question.
Government stimulus is part of Keynesian fiscal policy. Do you know what Keynesian policy is?
If not, allow me to explain.
What is a Keynesian Stimulus
https://www.economicshelp.org/blog/1368 ... -stimulus/
Anytime you hear about government stimulus spending, this is the reason for it. Keynes argued it not only benefits the recipient, but it also has general benefits for the economy as a whole. Hence it "stimulates" the economy.
We can debate whether stimulus checks to recipients are still necessary. Pandemic is ending, inflation appears to be receding, but then some other folks say we're heading for a recession. If the latter IS true, a Keynesian stimulus is not a bad idea.
and with that, you're welcome.
Carry on.
As far as the implied question in the OP, yes, I do think there are many ways we could be wasting these government funds worse, and often are, like corporate welfare to corporations who don't need it, or buying military hardware that cost billions but can't fly.
You asked.
John Maynard Keynes said if the government is going to hand money out, the best way to do it is to people who are lower, middle, and working class, because they actually go out and spend it domestically, promoting domestic economic growth. And, also, he was right.
It isn't just to "buy votes". No. BTW, I'm also not against funding education (please!). infrastructure, or health care too. I like being able to chew gum and walk at the same time. A complex government can, hopefully, do more than one thing.

And yet here you are throwing stones. More whataboutism. Didn’t speak to the OP. You just went straight to personal attacks. How deep must your thought processes be.

Your entire purpose here is to attack Dems and you never say a word about the GOP. Ever.
Your entire MO on this board is both sidisms, whataboutisms and to attack liberals. Hypocrite. And your whataboutisms are often not even real, they're fabricated. Like the time the GOP pushed through a SC seat two weeks before an election, and you said the Dems would do the same thing, when they never have and it never happened. Clown.

You're the one being quoted. Too bad you didn't pay attention in English class, and don't understand what quotation marks are. Idiot.
