i'm retired and it's been to cold for touring on the bike.
i came across the clip on a small time left wing site. When i tried to find the clip on a more neutral site i got little or nothing. So, ya Youtube it. What could be more neutral than the original 6 hour City Council meeting?
Did ya catch the City Council members rant? He started out good but lost it at the end. He wasn't asking the right questions.
How bout guy that was waiting to speak behind the old fart? My heart went out to him for keeping his cool.

Man's racist testimony to Anchorage Assembly sparks calls for changes at meetings
+A man's racist testimony about Alaska Natives during an Assembly meeting last week ignited a larger conversation about how city officials and residents should respond when people make false or derogatory statements, especially during public meetings.
Assembly leaders have since issued a statement condemning the man's words.
+"What the xúl. The whole thing is our home. You go home. This articulates a forever problem in Alaska," X'unei Lance Twitchell, professor of Alaska Native Languages at University of Alaska Southeast, said on Twitter.
Many said that Lazer's blatant statements laid bare often-repeated misinformation and the anti-Indigenous ideology at play in Alaska's communities — and further exposed how testimony during the public meetings has been used to spread messages of bigotry and misinformation.
+Statewide data from the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness show that, of those people who have interacted with homelessness services so far this year, the largest percentage identify as white at about 46%. About 43% identify as American Indian, Indigenous or Alaska Native. The data includes other racial identities and multiracial individuals can be counted toward more than one group. Indigenous people are overrepresented in the state's homeless population when compared to the state's overall demographics, a result of numerous factors including the history of violence, racism and oppression toward Alaska Natives in the state.
(Dunbar was the one city council member that spoke out about the old fart's racist rant.)Twitchell and some other Alaska residents have expressed frustration at how testimony such as Lazer's is allowed, while Dunbar's response was eventually cut off.
LaFrance and Dunbar both said the laws around public testimony are tricky, leaving little leeway for the Assembly chair to intervene, unless a person's testimony is not relevant to the item at hand, or the person is "creating an actual disturbance," according to city code.
+
Dunbar seems to have wanted clarification. The trick is to word, and then present, it properly. He lost his cool. It was turning into a confrontation not a discussion. That's why the chair cut him off.Generally, each member of the public is allowed three minutes to speak on an agenda item during a public hearing. City code governing the conduct of public hearings during Assembly meetings holds that Assembly members "shall not engage in debate" with testifiers and that any questions members ask should be aimed to gain clarification or additional information.

Well. There's always San Francisco.
If "hot mess" was a city, it would be San Francisco.
Or New Orleans. They've only got years on us. We've got the reputation.

As she should.
I'm glad she apologized, as she should have. SO WHAT if there are a lot of Hondurans in the TL. So now what is she going to do to make things better in the TL besides send more cops. viewtopic.php?p=22424#p22424 & onwards

Yeah, see, f. this along with the LA City Council members yukking it up about Oaxacans in K-Town.San Francisco Mayor London Breed is apologizing for comments she made during a show earlier this month.
Breed was all smiles at an event at Manny’s in the Mission Wednesday night. She was there to talk about the positives of San Francisco.
Breed left without answering any questions from the media after clarifying statements she made on Oct. 5 on a KQED show.
“There are unfortunately a lot of people who come from a particular country. Come from Honduras and a lot of people who are dealing that drug happen to be of that ethnicity,” she said.
Breed added that she wasn’t racial profiling and that it was the truth of the matter.
The backlash wasn’t immediate until the video began circulating.

Fercryinoutloud, just come out and say they aren’t human. Disgusting honesty is better than listening to assholes tap-dance around saying they didn’t mean what they said when we know damn well that they did. Either way they expose themselves as bigots but still the tap-dancing is ridiculous.

Yeah, apologies from the not-sorry are not apologies. The Tenderloin is one of THE most diverse neighborhood/districts in this city, with literally prominent presence of people from all over the globe -- Asian, Latino, Black, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Latino with roots from all over Latin America, and it encompasses the only city-recognized transgender district in the world. She was a part of that. Also borders two of THE old-money residential districts.bird wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 12:47 pm “Those people…”

Also THE notorious poor part of town, comparable to Skid Row in Los Angeles. The drug trades, the vice, the corrupt cops (which is how that district got its name in the first place), the unhoused, the land sharks of the city ever scoping out and trying to get what they can get for their rich clients...she really put her foot in it. Nice job. Thanks, Ms. Breed.

Yeah, I get it. American cities in general are pretty screwed up, and I suspect that it's for pretty much the same reasons everywhere. There was some place that used to bill itself as "The City that Works." Of course, it didn't work very well either.
LA has the additional problem that it was just about the worst even halfway inhabitable place in the contiguous US to put a metropolis.

Yes and the one thing LA has that no other city in this country has is the geography. Half hour to the beach, an hour and a half to the desert, hour and a half to skiing,ZoWie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 1:09 pm Yeah, I get it. But then, what that also comes with is 2 hours from Kevin McCarthy, an hour to Orange County, and an hour to Riverside.

Right now the desert is coming to us, and the skiing is mostly on fake snow made by machines that guzzle tons of water we don't have.
All LA ever had going for it was geography, though. Yes, it was once a pretty place, with mountains and an ocean and everything. It must have seemed like paradise.
Old movies are fun to watch for the background scenery. This really was a rather nice place. The movies came for the diversity of terrain ("Shoot the world in California"), the climate (not much rain to scrub shoots) and to escape the rather vicious patent enforcement in New York. Everyone else came for the climate and (at the time) low housing costs.
Was it Frank Lloyd Wright who said that it was as if the US was tilted and everyone without roots rolled all the way to California? After WWII ended a lot of people were rootless for various reasons, my parents included, and they all rolled in. Then there were all the folk songs from the labor era about the promised land (a job picking tomatoes beat no job at all), which surely had an effect. After that, we all know about GM and Firestone sabotaging the Pacific Electric transit system, thus forcing everyone to get around in cars. (That's a movie too.) Now real estate developers are treated like royalty.
It seemed like a good idea at the time, I guess.
