Had the CSA kept their powder dry there is a very good chance they would have been able to exist without a shot fired.
They attacked the United States to defend owning people. They were no heroes at all.

Fuck Off Troll.
Love of Country is not Blind Patriotism. It is not devotion to one person or one party. It is knowing fighting for your country is single most important thing you can do. Do not accept the notion violence is the answer.

They attacked Ft Sumpter because the Union Forces refused to leave.
Again it was a huge mistake. The CSA should have worked for what today would be called a diplomatic solution.
One thing that is never brought up is the North was fighting to preserve the Union.
Their views on the enslaved was not much different than the CSA view.

it was quite a bit of difference. The north did not want slavery in new states. The south wanted slavery in all new states.

I truly understand your bitterness. Here we are only 5 or 6 years apart in age. While you had a friendless childhood where you were teased and ridiculed for being an oddball .I still hang out with my high school friends.

Only 5 or 6 years apart and here I am still able to work and drive 10 000 to 12 000 miles a month.
When I get home still able to mow over 4 acres. Still able to play with my grandkids [ which you don't have] still able to chase the wife around (occasionally) Still able to get on my e bike and ride 3 miles.
On my days off still able to tow cars for a friend with a tow truck.
Still able to go play poker once or twice a week with my friends.
Still able to go to the drag races with my drag racing friends.

And their you are, blind in one eye with balance problems can't drive pretty much a virtual shut in. To make matters worse still that friendless oddball you were 60 years ago.
Hell, anyone as fucked up as you are would be bitter as well as envious of someone like me.

Lee was a great man. You are doing liberal thing by not being able to see anything except through your liberal lense.
Totally unable to see anything through the eyes of others or in a historical perspective.

In Lee's time your allegiance was to your state not your country. That and common sense tells us that Lee didn't want to give up his enslaved people.
Lee's work both before and after the war show us that for his time he was a man a character.
Again putting it in the historical perspective that you aren't capable of doing.

Did you read the book “Robert E. Lee and Me”?

Lee and the rest of the Confederates were traitors to their country and SHOULD have been tried and imprisoned.

Most of it and Lincoln and his predecessors did the correct thing.
Had they not reunited the country the war would have continued in a clandestine manner.
We would have never won WWI or WWII without those Southern men fighting for the United States.
As it was things were bad enough with the South being occupied by union troops as well as the economic sanctions put on the south through regulations

Lee was a traitor to his country. That’s just reality. So, no, that’s no great man.

There’s quite a bit of difference between thinking you had a right to own people and thinking you don’t.

That is very true. IMO had the economy of the north depended upon slavery and the economy of the South didn't depend upon slavery.
The political differences might have been reversed.

But you’re making excuses for the south, and owning people is inexcusable.

Technically you are 100pct correct. But to put it in the perspective of that era. His choices were be a traitor to Virginia or because traitor to the USA
At that time being loyal to your state was far more important.
That and I personally believe he had a profit motive.

What exactly is GoU "Making Up" there Troll. I've read his posts and those posts are fact based. You're posting desperate justifcations for Slavery.

FYI Glenn, the Commanding Officer's at Ft. Sumter (there were two), Robert A. Anderson and Abner Doubleday (yes that Abner Doubleday) had orders to remain in place. As those orders were issued by the U.S. Army and NOT some idiot Confederate Asshole, they obeyed those orders.

No Orders from a Foreign State or Entity had to power to over ride the standing orders to both Doubleday and Abner.
