Garland to hold news conference on 'significant national security cases'

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Merrick Garland will hold a news conference Monday afternoon to discuss "significant national security cases addressing malign influence schemes and alleged criminal activity by a nation-state actor in the United States," the Justice Department announced in an advisory.

Garland will speak at 1:30 p.m. ET and will be joined by Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco, FBI Director Christopher Wray, Assistant Attorney General for National Security Matthew G. Olsen and other Justice Department officials.

He spoke closer to two Eastern. The Nooz seemed to be disappointed that it wasn't about election hanky panky and cut away from it.

It was about indictments made in Chinese intell ops in the US aimed at dissidents in exile here, and also the usual industrial espionage to get trade secrets. China has always excelled at this latter effort.

There was mention of double agents infiltrated into the Chinese system, presumably Americans that they thought they'd turned but who were working both sides. Presumably. That was the most interesting part and it lasted only a few seconds.

Most books on international espionage make the point that no one's ever quite sure which side a lot of agents are really working for. You get double agents and double double agents. It becomes foggy who's really from which side.
