FCC Eliminates Hard-Copy Rules Requirement

As expected, the FCC has voted to eliminate the requirement that broadcasters and cable operators keep paper copies of the FCC's regulations on hand, the latest in a series of actions to whack away at regulations FCC chair Ajit Pai has said are part of a regulatory underbrush allowed to grow for too long.

That sounds like a good thing.

I expect that most broadcasters and cable operators have bought those rubber wedge door stops to keep any doors they want open, open.

They probably don't need those heavy stacks of paper to hold doors open anymore. People tend to trip and fall down over those old stacks of paper.

We're back in the Ray Gun era for sure. I kind of remember when you couldn't operate any transmitter bigger than a CB without a log book and a copy of the regs sitting right alongside it. They got rid of the logging when they got rid of local control of transmitters, and that's what turned 90% of local entertainment radio into national networks of automated repeaters for the same 8 or so content providers. Why bother with the regs when there are no humans around, and the only guy who has to know them is the contract engineer who only shows up to fix stuff?

They don't need door stops either. The doors are locked and the lights are out.
