Xmas wishes and news of members
Xmas wishes and news of members
I do wish everyone, left or right, a happy holiday. On Christmas, I plan to refrain from divisive political talk. I can do that for one day. But that's my choice, you can do as you wish.
Having said that, we should join together in wishing everyone well for this holiday season and into the New Year.
I do have some news from a member, and I have his permission to inform everyone.
Our member Glenn is home now to spend the holiday with family, but on the 27th he will be having surgery on his eyes, and will then be off for as much as two months recovering. While our medical technology is very good and reliable, I'm sure it's pretty tough having such a surgery. I'm sure we can all join together in wishing our friend Glenn to have a successful surgery, a quick recovery, so he can get back to letting us all know how full of shit he is!

Please pass on to Glenn my sympathy on his up come Eye Surgery. As I person with one eye, I understand how he feels right now. Sight is something you will take granted, losing it is one of the most frightening things that can happen to a person.
Love of Country is not Blind Patriotism. It is not devotion to one person or one party. It is knowing fighting for your country is single most important thing you can do. Do not accept the notion violence is the answer.

You're giving it to him here. I'm sure he'll drop in on the board before the surgery.marindem01 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 1:22 pm Please pass on to Glenn my sympathy on his up come Eye Surgery. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.
What sort of eye surgery is Glenn having? I had a detached retina I had to have a vitrectomy for. Multiple surgeries. These days medical science is pretty advanced with procedures like that. Although in my case I was born with a bad eye so I’ve never had proper vision in that one.
Anyway, best of luck to Glenn and fast healing.

Merry Christmas or happy holidays or whatever it is to you all and get well soon Glenn
Re: Xmas wishes and news of members
If you want to know, PM Glenn and ask. I'm not going to put any more than that on an open board, for his privacy.Drak wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 1:37 pm Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.

A glorious Festivus to all.
Like GoU, I think I have aired enough disappointments and grievances. Most are not with you folks.
So it is on to the Feats of Strength.
Wishing you a good recovery, glenn.

Eyes for a trucker are like legs for a runner. It goes beyond just being sighted. They're a tool.
I wish Glenn a speedy recovery.
Whatever you do this time of year, have a good one.

I may not agree with glenn on much but glenn, rest up, listen to some music, catch up on sleep, and just relax. In two months you surgery will be just a memory and you'll be back to normal.

I had intraocular lens implants in both eyes to remove cataracts and correct a severe astigmatism a year or so ago now.
Not cheap, Medicare only covers non laser removal of cataracts, which sucks and most people dont do anymore.
When you do this surgery you get a choice of seeing distance, intermediate or close up, you can only pick one. They did not explain to me that if I didn't choose distance I wouldn't be able to no longer use glasses, I thought getting intermediate would give me the best of both worlds.
It didn't, I still had to use glasses for distance, so I then had the worst eye corrected for close up with another surgery so that one eye was near perfect for distance and the other for close up and the end result, which is very cool, is I can now see both without glasses or readers.
And I was fucking very bad before, I wont use the word "blind" because that would demean those who really are, but without correction I could not function and the cataracts were terrible.
In the original surgery when they did both had I said do one for distance and one for close up I would not have had to have the 3rd operation, and they did offer that to me but they made it sound like very few people do it and often it doesn't work out...in the end it did for me. But I spent a ton of dough.

I sigh in your general direction.

Merry Christmas. We're planning on a quiet day. Coffee and reading the paper then going downstairs for the stocking stuffers. I'm making breakfast. Homemade Pecan Rolls with Bacon and Eggs. POG (Pineapple Orange and Guava Juice) as well.
Everyone stay safe and stay healthy.

Re: Xmas wishes and news of members
I've always enjoyed secular Christmas. The songs, the fun, the good feelings. It's a great way to willfully ignore that the cold crummy weather is coming your way. I don't even mind some of the religious music.
Christmas isn't a religious holiday. It's Yule. None of the traditions are Christian - the tree, the gifts, Santa - all of it is pagan. Heck, I even decorated my house this year for the first time ever. It's just a fun holiday.
So all those "war on Christmas" assholes can suck the big one. They want to take away the enjoyment of the day.
Me, I'm going to watch football and some movies and have a nice quiet day.

Thank you for those kind words. Just cataracts seeing surgeon on the 27th when we will schedule surgery's as they only do one eye at a time.marindem01 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 1:22 pm Please pass on to Glenn my sympathy on his up come Eye Surgery. Re: Xmas wishes and news of members
Normality is overrated. Other than having to wear glasses for far and near vision I've been fortunate not to have any eye problems other than floaters in my left eye which isn't a concern. My sister had cataract surgery and her eyes are back to "normal." Ophthalmologist have cataract surgery down to the point it's routine with about a 99% success rate and it doesn't require a hospital stay.
Happy holidays.
