NBA owners approve stricter rules for resting multiple star players. What will that mean?

This news isn’t a surprise, the real question is what does it mean?

Wednesday the NBA Board of Governors (made up of team owners) voted to increase fines substantially and take other steps to keep teams from resting multiple star players during nationally televised games, the NBA announced. It’s not a coincidence that the league is taking this step while negotiating a new national television deal, one of the complaints of broadcast partners is scheduling what should be a star-studded game only to have the big names in street clothes.

It means it's all about the Benjamins!

This news does bother me, though. With all the leagues going all-in on sports betting, the bettor should be able to be confident that both teams are doing everything they can to win the game by as many points as possible. Teams not doing so are basically guilty of point shaving or fixing the games.

The article states that struggling teams set out star players at the end of a season to protect the player and increase their position in the draft lottery. I'm sorry, but that's nothing more than throwing games. Bettors should be able to sue the teams for losses when a team loses games on purpose.

I continue to predict there will be one or more MAJOR scandals with the leagues now involved with and promoting sports gambling.
