NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump said Sunday he has decided against testifying for a second time at his New York civil fraud trial, posting on social media a day before his scheduled appearance that he “very successfully & conclusively” testified last month and saw no need to do so again.

The former president, the leading contender for the 2024 Republican nomination, had been expected to return to the witness stand Monday as a coda to his defense against New York Attorney General Letitia James ' lawsuit.

Lawyers will defend anyone with the means to pay. They will get people they know are guilty off Scott free if they can.

All persons charged with a crime, regardless of the crime, are entitled to an adequate defense which is what a lawyer does.

I used to live next door to one of the most well know defense attorneys in Memphis/Shelby county. Nice guy. Quite liberal. Very professional. As has been said, everyone deserves adequate council. That’s the job. That was his job. It’s up to the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. It was his job to make them do that. In order for him to do his job professionally, he was charged with poking holes in the prosecution’s case. That was the role and the service he provided. It is a critical part of our judicial system and he did it well. I never questioned his morals or his ethics. We are not a country that railroads the accused without a fair trial. I like that about us.

If they are the legal representation of someone who has committed a heinous crime, they are legally obligated to provide a zealous defense of that person to the best of their abilities Not doing so could result in disbarment and/or other criminal or civil sanctions.
