Covid Booster Update

Post by Glennfs »

Checked with my kid who tells me it is ok to mix match. She also says very few people had side effects from Moderna vaccine and because Pfizer put her on her back for a day she is going with the Moderna booster.
So if you or someone you know are hesitant about getting the booster because of the side effects they had from Pfizer encourage them to get the Moderna.

Gotta run just wanted to share this now back to the exciting world of trucking

My first shot was J & J.

I got a Pfizer booster shot, on campus, a few weeks ago. Fairly easy, I was in and out in about 20 minutes. The CDC, I believe, is not only officially sanctioning that particular "mix and match" but encouraging J & J first-and-onlies to get a Pfizer or Moderna as their booster.

BTW, I noticed zero effects from my booster other than the usual arm soreness, for about 2 days.

Personally I would take my chances with covid before I would go near J and J

That's fine. Yes, it seems they botched a lot of things early on. I was worried but the things they botched did not affect my shot. At that time, for reasons I discussed, it was either get a J & J or wait a couple more weeks for the alternatives (thank you FL, but I digress), but I would not wait.

The J & J shot was largely safe and effective, but it's probably a good idea for folks who got a shot 6 or more months ago to get a booster.

I got the first two shots with the Moderna. My reactions to it was very mild mainly being a sore arm and just a little fatigue. I got the Moderna booster two weeks ago and my arm was sore but when I went to bed I switched between the chills and sweating throughout the night. In the morning I was back to normal but tired from losing sleep.

Sore arm seems to be the major reaction to the Moderna booster. I have one right now.

Hopefully, you won't have the reaction to the booster I had. It wasn't fun.

Nope, just the sore arm, which is better.

Sorry you had a problem.

Which one? The worse your reaction the stronger your immune system is, by the way.
I sigh in your general direction.

My left arm. Just kidding.

The booster shot gave me a stronger reaction. I hadn't heard that a stronger reaction to the booster shot means your immune system is strong. I Googled booster reaction and got this from John Hopkins.

Which vaccine?

But I have confirmed with doctor that the reason you might have a bad reaction as in symptoms and I would have none or less is your immune system is stronger than mine. When I got my Pfizer booster I had an achy night compared to the 2nd shot where I had the same thing only a little worse and my wife had no reaction either time. So my immune system is a little better than hers and based on what you said yours is much better than ours.

The info in your response describes it better...

I'm not sure the reason for my reaction was because my immune system was stronger. Logically, since the Moderna vaccine strengthened my immune system a small dose given as a booster shouldn't have produced such a strong reaction. IMO, it should have be the same or less.

I've read that the Moderna maintains its highest immunity level longer than the Pfizer or J&J. It makes sense that the booster would stimulate a big immune response, which might be why it's a half dose. It puts quite a few people on their butts for a day or two, which still beats having covid.
